Good morning Chris, Greetings from Jamaica. I started raising rabbits last March, Found your channel after listening to quite a few other breeders. Since I found you I watched your instructions and they have been very helpful. You are an amazing teacher. I am an older person 75 years old next Saturday, This is my new survival hobby along with trying to grow vegetables . I have had more success with the rabbits than the veggies. I started with 2 Does and 1 Buck as you suggested following your instructions, I have 7 in the freezer, 4 breeding Does, 7 kits 6 weeks old and 10 Kits 3 weeks old. I also gave 2 mated does to my grand nephews. Thank you, thank you. I am blessed to have you as my teacher. Blessings

Hi Chris. I absolutely agree with you. One of my does was 10 months old when she finally hit 10 pounds and got pregnant. She had 12 babies with her first litter. Her sister didn't get pregnant until she was 11 months old, she only had 4 babies. In three weeks we will see if she gets more than 4 babies this time. But both does are great moms!!!

Could be worse. At least they are both good mothers. And you never know, she may have much bigger litters going forward.

Blessings Chris! Thank you so much for all the teachings, I am new on raising rabbits. I'm in Texas. My rabbit has lost their babies twice. I believe it was due to the weather and also being a first mommy. My question is , can I save the babies if she us not taking care of them and how do I do it? God bless and thank you

Hey I have a couple Californian does . They are 7 months old and about 6.5-7.8 pounds . Should I wait till they are 9 lbs?

Hello, Chris. Where do you butcher your rabbits in the winter? Or do you breed them at winter and butcher first rabbits at spring? In Finland we usually have -20 degrees Celsius or even more. Regards,
@Slightlyrednecked2 жыл бұрын
I do breed in winter. It doesn't get that cold where I live so I usually just wait for a day that isn't too cold and do it outside.

Maybe if I did separate cages, but they fought all the time and they were just awful

I am sorry to hear about your problems with quail. They can be aggressive but I believe that tends to be a genetic issue. I have had some aggressive birds before but the ones I have now are pretty mellow.

My rabbits are losing weight despite feeding pellets and hay constantly, what could be the problem and how to solve
@Slightlyrednecked2 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to hear that. Almost sounds like they may have a parasite of some kind. And are you sure they are losing weight or are you just going to by looks? They may just be blowing their coats and look a little smaller.

I know, the sun was hitting the lens just right and I didn't know about it until after the video was shot. I will try to watch out for that going forward.

There's so much conflicting information out there. Two yt channels I follow say breed them early and often, which is how they do it in nature (well, their ancestors, the European Rabbit species from which all domesticated descend.) We waited our first go round until 9 months old with our first two does, and one had already fattened her internal organs and only produced a single kit in her lifetime. So with our latest new American breed does, we bred them around 5 months old, and that worked fine. The moms are still getting bigger even as they nurse their kits. We are still trying to figure out how to increase litter size. "The Rabbitry Center" says to put the does to the buck in the morning, and then again about 8 hours later in order to maximize insemination. Our does are eager for the first rodeo, and want nothing to do with the gentleman for the evening. Another random factor we discovered was, don't raise your barn kittens inside the rabbit barn. Our young barn cat scared our does with a-few-days-old litters so bad, they both abandoned their whole litters and for the longest time, we couldn't figure out why. They were born vigorous and healthy, and escaped the most dangerous early days, only to all die at once. The cats have their own pad now, and all does are pregnant or nursing now! All my best to you ❤️

Glad you figured out the cat issue. It can be tricky to troubleshoot issues like that for sure. If what you are doing is working there is no need to change. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I am sorry to hear that you had problems. Not all rabbits are good breeders for sure.
