I bought a 28kg bell then moved to the 36kg, then the 40kg, then the 44kg, the 48kg bell. I started gaining body mass little by little. Still at 56 years of age I’m using all the bells. Lots of good protein and rest is a must for recovery. Great advice brother!

The issue is the difference between swings and TGU as opposed to c&p and snatch; I needed heavier weights pretty fast for the former but the latter take time to progress.

🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥 I needed to hear this just went to the gym since the original shut down and I wanted to grab the 20lbs KB for thrusters etc. (Too egar to get back to where I was before shutdown)...But then I came to my senses and I went ahead and grab two 15lbs since that's the one size I have at home and I made it a little bit shorter of a workout. You want to progress and get your gains but you got to make sure you're conditioned and your form is right other wise you'll be on the struggle bus. I may just finish out the year with single and double 15lbs exercises for now. I do like the heavier bell for carries, swings, squats. I feel bad ass but I will take your advice and master and condition myself before jumping to quick for the heavier bell. Plus to be honest I'm currently 5"5 154lbs and it doesn't take much for me to see my body change it's not the number on the scale for me its losing inches, seeing new muscle growth or definition, and keeping my body fat ratio vs muscle under control. You encourage me to never stray away from being safe first. I feel like a monster everytime I have the bell in my hands. I will be honest I'm glad I stuck to the 15s because it wasn't totally sloppy but I found myself struggling on my form towards the end because I do warm up/stretch before going straight into the bells. I will get better... Question: what's the best lightweight mask that allows you to breath easier I figured you'd know or probably make one eventually. I've been using the disposable mask as soon as I sweat it gets wet and clings to my face ( mask are required at my gym I didn't have to worry at home or at the track). Make us a mask or a video with your expert opinion. There's so many mask on Amazon I'm like which one?

I agree. The biggest factor isn’t strength so much as it is the fact that it takes a lot longer for tendons and ligaments to become adjusted to a heavier weight than the muscle itself. I’ve been fighting tendinitis in my left elbow the last few months for that exact reason, trying more complex movements with a heavier weight before I was ready.

This is good advice. Ive just moved from a 16 to a 24 and Im really going to keep things simple. My muscles are pretty good but tendons, ligaments and joints are another matter.

I got a 50 pounder finally and only had it for two months . I used to do 35 pounds for a year of high reps and mile walks . So jumping to 50 pounds wasn't hard and I know I can do 71 pounds and 85 pounds and think 123 pounds is doable maybe 150 but I'm thinking about getting a 203 pounder.but I probably shouldn't. The goal is one hand snatches, press overhead squat rack squat thrusters to overhead squat , inside circles outside circles cross body swing.outside swing to clean and press to rack squat to thuster to over head squat. Windmills and get ups Stageried stance contralatiral and ippsolateral.

I am currently in the process of moving to a heavier kettlebell (from 10kg to 12kg). I can do cleans, push presses and TGUs. But I am still afraid of trying a snatch. At the moment, I am doing one hand swings to a higher and higher hight. I hope one day I will feel ready to try my first 12kg snatch. Love all your videos. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.

Dont worry keep snatching the 10kg. Work all exercises you can with 12 kg. Jerks push press etc then soon the 12kg clean will be very easy and you can try the snatch with it.

Hi Joe, sorry curious about something. In your opinion is there ever value in having a kettlebell sport athlete using cast iron bells in their regular training to increase the difficulty of the lift in the same way that a power lifter would use a more difficult/awkward variation of an exercise to increase proficiency in the regular lift (sort of like the Westside method)? Or is the technique in using competition bells so vastly different there would be no noticeable benefit/carry over? It’s just something I’ve been wondering about for a while now. Hope you don’t mind me asking. All the best and thanks again for the great content.

I do both . just to change the input. Of course not many people have sets if both style. But I find it fun to switch up.

What kind of numbers would you suggest as a good target using double kettlebells for a primarily clean/press/front squat based program before moving up to the next size?

It's true the 28kg feels so much heavier than the 24 it's crazy. I haven't successfully snatched it yet. I imagine the jump from 28 to 32 is even worse. Of course the heavier the weights the smaller the steps will be. Hmm maybe I should get a 30 kg 🤣
