I planted 3 plots about 3 weeks ago. Called for 3 days of rain in that week. We missed the rain completely and my germination rate was horrible. Plant again when soon, just hoping for rain. Worst case, Fall rye in September! Cheers Growing Deer Team!!

Dang weather forecasters...

I usually plant my food plots here in Central and Southeast Oklahoma around the time of the state fair. Seems like we always get a cool front and a nice rain then.

Well, this sucks up in central Wisconsin because there's NO rain in the forecast for the next 2 weeks as of now. I've planted my brassicas about 10 days ago, and I have half an acre that I sprayed about 7 days ago, and im 2+ hours away so im gonna have to wait to broadcast my cereal grains and some clover. 1st year plot, and i also can't get a ton of lime in it, so im gonna spray some plot boost on the brassicas and then maybe on the other half after it germinates. But that'll be right around our archery opener. Anyway, great advice, so thanks.

What’s your thoughts on an early fall bean plot for early season hunts and then broadcasting a good plot blend for late season greens and forage?
@GrowingDeerTV2 ай бұрын
The cool season crop will need 45 days or so before a frost to have enough time to produce many pounds.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I just purchased a PH 5 drill and will be starting your release process this fall with 200 lbs of Eagle Seed Rye (90%) & Radishes (10%), 200 lbs of Oats, additional 5 lbs of D. Radishes, 10 lbs of P.T. Turnips and 10 lbs of Eagle Seed Top Five annual clover on 4 acres of spotting white clover plots and have a couple of questions: 1) would I be better off by lowering my pounds per acre to around 50 lbs and going over twice to reduce the 7.5” row spacing or not and 2) I purchased additional white clover before I committed to the release process, would I be wasting it if I added it to my mix this fall due to the heavy competition in the release process?

There's no need. to go over plots twice with a drill. That will simply add soil compaction. Be sure the drill is calibrated accurately and then one pass will be great!

Hey guys! Couple questions. Any advice on how to calculate your seed rates if you are making your own blend? And also, any tips on what type of clover to plant in Louisiana? Love the videos!
@RoundTableRestoration2 ай бұрын
Weighted averages. Multiply each seeds % of total blend by recommended seeding rate and add all together. Then divide by 100 (technically, all %'s added up). Ex: my blend is 60%@40#, 20%@50#, 10%@60#, 10%@45#. = 4450/100 =44.5# per acre (then adjust for personal preference and observations)

No way to advice you without knowing what's in the blend, the local deer population, etc.

Where do you get your seed blends from and can I still plant buckwheat in August down here in Louisiana?
@GrowingDeerTV2 ай бұрын
Buckwheat matures is about 75 days. Use to determine if it works for your mission. I get my seed from GreenCoverFoodPlots.com.

I am wondering at what point if any, do the deer want to start eating the heads on the sorghum. It sounds like i need to crimp and replant for fall since I'm in the dough stage, but the deer haven't showed any interest in the sorghum heads. Thanks!
@GrowingDeerTV2 ай бұрын
This always depends on what other food sources are available. The sorghum is in the dough stage at my place and deer are consuming it now!

Once they start on it they won't stop until gone.

Can cereal rye be planted immediately before or after applying 41% glyphosate?
@GrowingDeerTV2 ай бұрын
Yes - before as long as the seeds don't germinate before the herbicide is applied and seed can be planted immediately after applying glyphosate.
@thomaslehmann59812 ай бұрын
Yes it absolutely can

What happened to your genesis drill.

I traded up for a PH drill. They are several improvements over the Genesis.
