@@briIIyyI rescued a dog from Mexico who survived distemper and in turn caused tracheal collapse. She’s a healthy happy dog. Sometimes she doesn’t want to eat, but that can be a side effect. She only ever misses one meal though. We have had her for two years and she’s actually cost us the least amount of money out of all of them. She plays with the other dogs and is very happy. She does have exercise intolerance (also a symptom) so we just make sure she doesn’t over push herself. She has a permanent wheeze and 3-4/day coughing fit

@@Jessi.mari.eMy chihuahua has a collapsed trachea. Found out in November 2023. I’ve been told by the Vet to keep him cool during summer but we’re now in winter. If your dog has an inward snorting noise, that’s a concern. My dog has also portrayed signs of opening his mouth, as in trying to get air. We’re now in June 2024 and he’s on pills to help relax his throat but I can see he may be due soon 😢 Just keep an eye on your furbaby and always take to the Vet if you’re concerned ❤️ xx

My dog had this condition and started to have difficulty in breathing she was coughing for over seven months .I seen a vet on several occasions and then tried elderberry and New Zealand organic honey for a while but long term it didn’t work and I had to make the decision to have my beautiful poodle put to sleep to stop the suffering any more I tell you it was heart braking . I wouldn’t like any one to go through that .Thank god I know I did the right thing even though it killed me inside .All the best to all of you out there and I hope your pets are well .❤❤❤❤

My dear old gal has this and it’s gotten worse over the last few months. However, she copes with the coughing very well and her vet says her heart and lungs are in great condition. She’s 16, so every day is a blessing. She gets excited to go on car rides, and every morning she steps outside, takes a deep breath, and just looks so content for that moment. I know her day will come, but today wasn’t it. And tomorrow is looking good too. FYI for other owners, hycodan works well. We also use an inhaler- Flovent, but right now she has an eye ulcer and we can’t use that. It’s tough getting old.

I have a 15 year old Chihuahua who had been diagnosed from feline asthma to flu. Finally found out that she had collapsed trachea. One vet put her on very expensive meds (can't remember the name). We moved to a different state and they put her on prednisone. She has been on that for about 8 months and it has worked wonders. She is alert. She rarely coughs or hacks. The only draw backs are that the medication may shorten her life and it makes her constantly hungry. She's 15, has arthritis in her hip and can barely see or hear. I also have a feeling that she is getting forgetful. She has lived a good long life. I spoil her to death now.

Thank you for making this video. My mixed-breed, rescued girl has to be at least 16 years old, and she was diagnosed with collapsing trachea several years ago. I've been blessed with amazing, caring vets and techs who have guided me through this journey with her, and with the proper care and medication, your furbabies can still enjoy many years of quality life. Unfortunately, the condition does progress, and hers is getting worse. I don't want her to suffer, but I also don't believe in putting her down just for my convenience (as some in my life have suggested). Thank you for giving me advice on what to look for when the time comes to make that difficult decision.

My 13.5 year old pug Molly has been coughing then heavy rapid panting likely anxiety induced and unable to sleep for 6 days !!! She was in ER diagnosed collapsed trachea and I have been to 2 vets new and received cough meds none of which work - she started hydrocordone today narcotic and still an awful cough and pray it will kick in with another dose so she can sleep - she eats great drinks

UPDATE 4/23 My son is a radiologist and discovered Molly had bacterial pneumonia months ago so proper meds were administered and she was healed in November. Thanks for the short vid. My 12-yr old poodle mix has coughing, hacking, honking spells which the vet yesterday took an x-ray for and said is severe trachea collapse. She showed me the x-ray narrowing part. I also told her some symptoms which she said is Cushing’s Disease. So far the doggie is ok most of the time but these coughing spells last five minutes or so and make me worry. The vet mentioned possibility of surgery but I imagine at doggie’s age it is not right. Not to mention probably very expensive. I dropped my pet insurance years ago when the company folded, which soured me on the whole idea. The vet gave me 20 days of hycodan, whatever that is but obviously that is not enough. I am considering changing vets as they keep switching vets and office personnel (who aren’t very nice).

My twelve-year-old poodle has severe trachea collapse, enlarged heart twice the size it should be, enlarged liver. He's on four different medications and has been for a couple years which helped and although he does have bouts of coughing for several minutes. At night so I can sleep I also give him half a Benadryl and prednisone which helps immensely.
@BetterCallShannon16 күн бұрын
It’s not deadly to dogs and can be treated. No need to put down your damn dog down because of this. Not that you ever got around to saying that in your video. There’s surgeries, and medications if you’re not ok with surgery. I have an at least 12 year old chihuahua rescue with this condition. She’s had a cough for going on 2 weeks now. It’s damn near constant coughing and hacking. I’m waiting for medication now, until then, you can use honey mixed with water. Or even a tiny bit depending on weight of organic cough meds. My vet says she will be put on hydrocodone pain meds as a cough suppressant. Or you can get steroids in pill form or a breathing treatment type of form. If your dog is already 15+ years old, and gets this condition, treat the symptoms but I’m sure your dog isn’t the healthiest thing on earth already. Be realistic and enjoy your dog as long as you can, in the healthiest way possible for them.

Also his heart is twice the size it should be but his lungs are clear. I've had him he's about 13 years old. There's times when he can go a few hours without coughing but he has many many episodes throughout the day where he gags and coughs and throws up a clear liquid. Let me know how your situation turned out. Thank you

Question: my pom sometimes has a cough that sounds kinda like a very violent reverse sneeze. He will do it a few times in a row, then he'll gag, which sounds like something is halfway up his throat but it never comes out. I don't know what it is or if he's okay. I hope it's not tracheal collapse, and it's just some kind of reverse sneeze. Please tell me what you think it may be, and I'll tell my mom and she can probably set up an appointment or something. I hope Sampson is okay 😟

Short faced dogs get this fairly commonly. I have a Boston Terrier who gets that same symptom. But mine is developing trachea collapse as well. I’m not a vet or anything, so obviously ask your vet, but when my dog has that symptom you describe, I gently rub him by his collar bone and it seems to quiet him down and stop. I also say goooodd boooooyyy as I am rubbing it and it helps calm it down as well.

Surely how did things turn out? Cvd doesn't do much for my poodle who's had a really bad trachea cough for the past year. For the past year he's been on four or five medications twice a day and I give him prednisone and the and an allergy pill when he wakes me up twice during the night. He eats well still and potties outside that I just don't know how long to go.

@@maddiespillman5437 the pills seem to help but I was giving him four to five pills twice a day. He would wake up several times during the night just gagging and coughing. He had so many problems. In large heart, and large deliver and then his trachea had totally collapsed on his windpipe. I had two or three X-Rays done at different times and it was just getting worse. I made three appointments before I finally reconciled to myself that it was time for him to pass on. The day I walked into the Vet he could tell and he knew I was very reluctant. It's a bad ask me what is it you need to see for you to be able to go through with putting him down and I didn't have an answer. So he's been gone now 2 months and I buried his ashes or I scattered his ashes, like all my animals after cremation, in my backyard and my and like two other dogs go out there everyday. They take a piece of your heart with them forever. But I had so much joy with him and he was such a cuddly good Neighborhood Watch Dog. He get on the back of the couch and look out the window and protect the whole neighborhood all 12 lb of him. I hope things are going okay with you your little girl or guy
