I have not tried HRT. I am 48 years young and I was diagnosed with PMDD- PreMenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. This condition showed up in my life as if I was depressed, hormonal, constant crying for no reason, lethargic and moody. Oneday I had enough of all of these symptoms and so I scheduled an appointment with my now therapist and a psychiatrist. I was placed on medication specifically to address what appeared like depression and found out that this medication is used for women diagnosed with PMDD. I can honestly say that after 6-8weeks I am much better. No night sweats, mood swings, hot flashes and interrupted sleep.

I’m 66, been on transdermal estradiol for 15 years, and prometrium progesterone. I’ve had periodic ultrasound, and bloodwork 4x year. All is well. I am however going to wean off this year. I’ve been on lowest dose .025 for 5 years, and since age 65, I’ve cut the .025 patch in half. My female GYNO said the research doesn’t show benefit after age 66. My facial skin still looks good, and I feel normal down south! 🙂👍

Why would HRT not be recommended for women over 60, after not being on HRT…what are the risks and concerns in those circumstances?
@shorelined15 ай бұрын
Because HRT is most effective when the body hasn't gotten used to doing without it. I've heard it compared to putting gas in a car with a frozen engine. There are physiological changes HRT won't reverse once established but hopefully the worst symptoms are over by then too. Unsure if bone density would improve but sounds like it may.

I'm 52 and 2 years into menopause. My gyno just prescribed the transdermal bioidentical estradiol patch (0.05 once a week rather than twice weekly) and oral micronized progesterone (100mg caps). He said bloodwork wasn't necessary and he can make adjustments based on how I feel. I know other women who have gone to hormone specialists who prescribe compounded HRT and they do bloodwork first to check their baseline (even though I've read that hormones fluctuate throughout the day). Should bloodwork be done first or is my gyno correct?

My partner is 45 and has just been given her first tranche of HRT. Personally I think she should have started taking them in her late 30s as: her hair started to thin, she started to feel ‘funny’ and she aged very quickly over the last 5 years, more so than other women her age. Unfortunately her male GPs were, quite frankly, useless and had no interest in this field.
