Sir, this is BY FAR the best video describing the features of this grinder. I watched 4 other videos while researching this grinder. ALL a complete waste of time. That you for providing the information needed to make an intelligent buying decision without all of the BS. 10 stars out of 5!! Bonus star for not begging folks to subscribe to your channel. I subscribed JUST because of that.

I'm glad you found the video useful. It was hard to write the script and explain the difference correctly. The script wasn't approved by my wife until she could full understand what the difference was so I can see why it's hard to make a video explaining this topic.

From my understanding, the 5/8" arbor refers to the spindle. You can actually measure it with a ruler, from outside thread to outside thread. The backing flare nut step diameter, used to fit inside a grinding wheel, is the 7/8" . So when shopping for grinding wheels you go by the size of the disc, and the diameter of the flare nut step (not the arbor size).

No, the ARBOR or arbor hole is the larger step up diameter to hold cutting and grinding wheels which fit around the 5/8" SPINDLE that is used for threaded attachments.

This was SUPER HELPFUL!!! Lots of experience with wood working but brand new to metal. The arbor size thing was really confusing me but you helped me see it's actually really simple.

M Pasco, you’re welcome and you’re not the only one that has gotten confused about the arbor. It’s not very clear when looking at the tool descriptions which is why I took the time to break it down in the video. -Steve

Thanks for the Video clearing up that I could use a 7/8 wheel, but after a call with DeWalt I was told you can use a 5/8 grinding wheel or a 7/8 with their 20V tools. As an example I was told the 4"×1/8"×5/8 DW4418 type 27 can be used. Near the start, I believe you said only a 7/8 hub could be used?
@TwistedToolbox

I only use the 7/8 wheels on the grinder.

Can you use a 7 inch wheel (with the 7/8 arbor) on a 4.5" with a 5/8th arbor. I can only think that the lower RPM on a 7inch may cause the disk to snap or break under the higher rpm (10,500rpm) of a 4.5" grinder? If the 7/8 disk fits then would a 7inch dust shroud be acceptable for safety purposes while gaining the vacuum feature also??
@TwistedToolbox
@TwistedToolbox 9 күн бұрын
A 4.5" grinder will not safely fit a 7" wheel since you would need to remove the guard, plus the RPM difference will likely not be correct.

We have a small dewalt angle grinder and we can not locate the 5/8" to 7/8" adapter (arbor) that you are using. I have googled endless names with no luck - could you please tell me where to obtain one? Thank you!

This was helpful; but I have a 412. It only spins at 8k. How/where does this number appear on discs? I guess I don't understand. Like mine's a type 27. Is that the machime or the guard size? How do I know if a pad thingy (i need a concrete one) is the correct one for my model or does it not matter as long as the 4.5 and 7/8 stuff matches? Although experience seems to indicate the former. I just want to grind down a cement threshold so my door fits. It's turned into the search for el dorado. So, any help please.

If you go to the isle at the store with grinding wheels, you will see the info you are looking for. They will specify what the wheel can cut; concrete, metal, aluminum, etc. The label on the wheel will also list the max RPM that wheel can safely spin.
