----------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEWALT is adding a lot of different lines to their 20-volt tools. Some seem designed to work better with high amp-hour 20-volt tools (Power Detect) and some work better with FlexVolt batteries (Flexvolt Advantage). no matter how you look at this, parts of it are good for the consumer. In this case, the DEWALT DCG416 FlexVolt Advantage is a smaller tool with great power and would complement a FlexVolt Grinder. This is the first FlexVolt advantage tool that seems to stand out and give a reason for someone to own the FlexVolt 60v tool and the FlexVolt Advantage 20V tool.
The DEWALT 20V FlexVolt Advantage 4-1/2" - 5" Paddle Switch Angle Grinder is also the first Flexvolt Advantage tool that seemed to stand out with the FlexVolt battery compared to the 8.0Ah 20-volt battery pack. There was a significant difference between any 20-volt battery pack and the FlexVolt battery pack.
The DEWALT 20V FlexVolt Advantage 4-1/2" - 5" Paddle Switch Angle Grinder is a tool that we believe will be purchased by FlexVolt owners because of its smaller size and good power. Also, when using a FlexVolt battery, this tool will outlast the real FlexVolt in runtime almost 2 to 1. There are a lot of benefits to the smaller 20-volt angle grinder. Power is the only thing that the larger 60-volt FlexVolt tool has over the small FlexVolt Advantage.
Pricing on some of the FlexVolt advantage tools has to start to come down soon. We know the prices are higher with a FlexVolt battery because they are a new style and provide more power, but in many cases, the 20-volt FlexVolt Advantage is more expensive than the 60-volt FlexVolt tool and battery. This should all settle out in the future. If you are looking for a deal, the DCG414 we listed at the top of the description is a kit with 2 batteries and a good grinder for the same price as the FlexVolt Advantage kit with one battery. Granted the DCG414 is the older FlexVolt model, but it still has more power than the DCG416.

Just pick up both of em. I use my DCG416 for smaller jobs, such as debur, polish, smaller 5" disc grinding, etc. and I use my DCG418 for hog work such as structural jobs, wide flanges, cutting discs, etc. I carry both of them to the job site, as well as use them in the shop. I have a 4 bay fast charger to keep the batteries cycled and always charged. I have a 12ah, two 9ah and two 6ah 60v batteries. I also have two 8ah, two 6ah, two 5ah, two 4ah and six 2ah 20v batteries. I never have to stop working. I've been with DeWALT for a few years now, and I love them. Milwaukee used to be my go-to, until I tried DeWALT. I highly recommend them.

For most people, the XR will be the best since you get sufficient performance with the best runtime... But for professionals or people that has knows what they want in a tool, dewalt is giving them a lot of options... either go with flexvolt for max performance, power detect/flexvolt advantage for added performance with great runtime.

Thanks for the great video as always. I have the 418 and use it a lot. My Mac guy had the 416 on the truck with the flex volt 6ah . I checked it out and I liked that it was small and kind of a baby brother to my 418. He gave a great deal on the set and it is serving me well. Amp hour is only capacity so when a battery is 5AH or 9AH that makes no difference in the actual current that it can deliver. Current is measured in amps not amp hours these are two completely different things. This is why the 5AH and 8AH feel exactly the same because the amperage or current is the same. The flexvolt battery on the other hand (doesn't matter that it's 9AH) provides more current and can sustain higher loads. That's the reason it feels different. Either way though great comparison thank you for the video.

Unfortunately you are wrong, 9AH battery has more cells and thus gives small advantage in current it can provide. In multiple comparison, especially with reciprocating saw, they indeed provides different level of amperage. Why do you think more cells doesn't provide more current that it can deliver?
@Tonyplat98
@Tonyplat98 2 жыл бұрын
@@Laohei0103 more cells does not mean it can provide more current this is simple math. Hi, I know the paddle style is a safety issue for the osha or industrial shop . For the average home owner, small garage shop, carpenters or smaller metal shop DeWalt should have their two 20v grinder models like the UK. The paddles and side switch style. Again, i get the paddle so call safety. It just a pain to keep holding the paddle down. Look Makita has a dam switch on the top. I decided to buy the makita for that feature plus the handle design is much comfortably then any other 18v company. Don't get me wrong the flexvolt does have a very comfortable handle grip. The only two things makita needs to improve on their grinder is add a disk break and a better release system on the disk guard. Just wanted to share my thoughts

We all like different tools. I have to hold the angle grinder and I never feel like the paddle switch is hard to operate. BUT, with that said, I do not use a battery grinder for large jobs. Even I do not have the batteries needed for that.
@michaelc7283
@michaelc7283 3 жыл бұрын
@@WorkshopAddict I get your point on larger jobs. I still have my corded grinder but even that one has a side switch. That's why i decided to get the makita cordless switch style. That's actually the only tool i have that's makita. I use milwaukee and dewalt tools but i couldn't deal with the paddle style cordless grinder by both companies. It just might be me, but I do like the switch style better. I was just hoping we can choose either style if they were available in the US. Thanks for the video comparison

As far as runtime, they are the same, but the FV 6.0 has 15 cells and the 20-volt 6Ah has 10 cells. FV will weigh more and do better under high amp draws by keeping the voltage higher, but in this case would make a larger battery pack to work around.

I have 4 or 5 corded Dewalts, 5 cordless and they all get used over my Milwaukees. Because Dewalt stepped up in the last few years and worked to correct older issues and make good compact grinders for jobsites, I think they have the game figured out. Milwaukee on the other hand seems to only care about how much power they can make with a cordless tool and can limit the quality they make to that power. I noticed you used a flexvolt on the 20v max Grinder only at the end of your video. I saw a video where they recommended NOT to use the felxvolt batteries on any 20 volt max tools. Your thoughts? Can I use flex flexvolts on my regular dewalt Cordless tools which are all Brushless? Or will there future shortages on the tools due to extra juice always in ?

There are 2 failsafes to prevent overvoltage, a mechanical and an electrical switch. The 20V tools cannot access 60V because they don't have the tangs to trigger the mechanical switch and they don't have the 6 pins (as mentioned in the video, they only have 4) to access the electrical switch. So no, it's pretty impossible to ruin your 20V tools.

The DCG416 has been tested to work for only 4-5 mins continuously then it takes a "break" and it's not because it's too hot either. The Bosch on the other hand can work 16 mins straight full load😂 This DeWalt tool is the only grinder that does that compared to it's competitors.

how does this compare to the power detect?

Basically the same, but the PD works better with the 6 and 8 Ah 20 volts where this FA models likes the Flexvolts. We discuss this in the video.

@@WorkshopAddict would cool also to see the side by of PD and FA. also you did mention that you were pushing harder usingbthe flexvlot. just curios if you could figure out a way to create a even push so that us viewers can really see a more accurate result less human error.
