The pretérito e imperfecto are two of the most common past tenses in the Spanish language. But how and when do we use them? This video will explain the differences, such as:
For the pretérito, CBS
C = Completed Action
B = Beginning/End of Action
S = Sequence/Series of Events
Although there are only 3 in this pneumonic, they are 3 general examples.
For the imperfecto, TOPHSIA
T = Time
O = Ongoing Action
P = Physical/Emotional Description
H = Habitual Action
S = Simultaneous Actions
I = Interrupted Action*
A = Age
Watch the video for specific examples of each category and how they vary.
