I'm a long suffering Bullets and now Wizards fan. I have seen some truly terrible basketball in my 45 years. The only reason I haven't been losing my shit about how terribly Poole is playing is, like you said, he's aiding the tank so much it seems like strategy. He is straight garbage and if/when we get a stud in the draft, Poole needs to be released immediately so none of his cooties get on our young talent.

Your situation reminds me when, as a Celtics fan, I was deeply skeptical when we acquired Kyrie Irving. He may have performed better than your guy, and possess more talent, but his attitude felt like a cancer on the team. Age old story unfortunately. The promising player gets paid and loses focus after. In all honesty the main reason he ended up being as good as he was is due to his work ethic plus veteran leadership and winning culture. Now he thinks he’s done enough to prove himself and is delusional thanks to his contract. It’s really unfortunate because if he stuck with what got him here and humbled himself we’d definitely see him thriving right now.

Poole is crazy, no way would I let Draymond run me off a team that was going to be mines in a few years. Poole said he wanted to move on from the situation and even told them not to suspend Draymond, he then went on to sign that contract and got paid knowing damn well he wasn't going to really move forward from what happened. He gave up on the entire team and then thought the Warriors were going to pick keeping him over Draymond and that's where he made the mistake of thinking that was going to happen. Poole told them it's him or me and they said..."have a nice life kid" and it wasn't just because of the punch, he was getting into it with members of the coaching staff as well. Poole let that situation take over him and he became unbearable to be around and it's unfortunate. He got that contract and checked out, that was not going to fly with an organization who is all about winning.
@T1Oracle
@T1Oracle 6 ай бұрын
The problem with this narrative, is that no one actually knows if Poole "let the contract get to his head." No one close to him has said that, not even Draymond. He may have an ego, but the only evidence that his contract has changed him, is the appearance of him playing differently. Objectively, there could be countless explanations for that. Especially given that we only have one season of him playing that well. Stephen Curry had a whole shooting slump that was explained. That's just life.

I think people need to learn to look past talent. In Poole's 2nd year on the Warriors, I said to my daughter, something is off with this player and if he (Poole) were on another team that he would be a headcase (a problem). The reason it took a little to while to rear its ugly head, is because he was on the Warriors around cerebral players and coaches that prevented the true Poole from showing himself. Now, I am not condoning what Draymond did, but I do believe Poole leaving the warriors had nothing to do with Draymond and everything to do with Poole's SWOLLEN EGO. He thought he could replace Steph, he felt he was better than Steph, he believed he should be allowed to have complete shooting freedom and it started to show. Which led to him making bad shots, bad passes and bad decisions. Then his bad attitude and toxic behavior began to trickle down to the younger players like Kuminga. Now he is on another team and as I said, he is a problem and not a good one. I was fine with Poole being traded and although the Warriors are struggling at the moment, I will take these struggles, slumps don't last forever but sometimes players never grow up.

the hate on jordan poole is crazy. kid helped the warriors win a championship dropping 20 a game in the playoffs and then comes back the next year gets suckered punched by the team's "locker room leader", team didn't discipline draymond in any way and y'all expect poole to just move the hell on and be cool with everything. it's pretty clear that poole isn't the most mentally strong player, his performance on the court is tied closely with how confident/supportive he feels. in 2022 he had the support of everyone, coaches, teammates and fans, he was splashing and everyone loved it. in 22-23, he was put in a terrible position mentally to start the year and you could feel the distrust between the management and poole. and then the fans started chiming in and throwing him under the bus especially in the playoffs. he had 0 confidence in the playoffs and was not even putting up shots, he would put up like 10,12 shots a game and yall tryna act like he was this selfish player ruining possessions for the dubs and klay was literally going 5-20 on a nightly basis. and he's doing the same this season. poole got traded (unfairly) and he now faces even more pressure to prove himself elsewhere, of course he's gonna fail. like i said, he needs a support system around him and when the entire world is waiting on his demise, it's almost impossible for him to overcome that, because like i said, he's still young and not the most mentally tough player. poole haters who call themselves warriors fans are the same people who are crying about steph not getting help and having no one that can score above 20. remember the days when poole would drop 30 or even 40 to carry the warriors when steph and klay are out?

Let Deni Advija Hoop!! He was a fairly early draft pick for the Wizards with a ton of talent. Wizards coach needs to step up and stop the BS selfish play by Poole and Kuzma. They have Deni Advija shooting 53/45/80 this year and averaging 13/6/4 & 1.2STL in under 30min a night. But the least efficient gaurd in the NBA jacks up twice as many shots a game as Deni? Advija barely gets the ball when Poole is on the court. Poole would rather take a 40ft three or than give it to someone else who can actually hit a shot. For Advija to crack 20 points in a game he needs to shoot like 8/11 going 5/7 from three. Meanwhile Poole drops 20 going 9/27 from the field and 3/14 from three😒 Washington coaches are truly letting Poole just tank this team into the dirt for that top draft pick next spring.

I don’t mind his production rn; new team, new teammates, new role, new system, etc. I did expect him to be a top 10 scorer this year, I can admit that. what I do mind is his attitude, demeanor. why make yourself an enemy to the guys you’re going to battle with, that’s what I don’t understand. watching the preseason, I already knew what time it was gone be, when Avdija threw his hands up in frustration (even with Poole making the shot) I figured this was gonna be a tough season for them. I think I even commented that on the recap video of that game. I still have faith in his skill, I think he’ll bounce back. but he has to get his mindset together, you can’t approach a team sport the way he has, especially when YOU are the new guy. I do feel he’s in jeopardy of ruining his career rn

It will be interesting to see if Jordan Poole gets some self awareness, once he is completely humbled by gradually being hated by all his teammates and shooting himself towards one of the most publicly humiliating seasons in history. Will he course correct and listens to his coaches? Will he start to play defense and be a decent teammate? Will he have a meltdown and burn every bridge ever and blame his warriors former teammates? Not sure if he is mentally ill, just not very smart, or taking substances, but something is wrong with him. He has all the talent he needs to be very good, but he just doesn’t have any self awareness of how often he’ll miss or turn it over when he pushes.

NBA players don't want to be coached. Kyrie Irving exposed this when he talked about Kenny Atkinson. a coach can't coach properly when their players are constantly trying to show them up, how they won't be talked to in a certain way, things like that. This is a major reason why american players have fallen off so hard, they don't want to get better or play to win. They have the mentality of "get the bag" and people online support it because money is worshiped. Jordan Poole is the personification of this mindset. He happened to win, but more importantly to him, he got his money. Now he will hold the wizard's hostage until management decides to waive him.

It’s tough because top level athletes almost need a certain amount of narcissism and delusion to become as good as they are. Once a human has developed a certain belief system that’s tied to the way they play, anyone suggesting they change their game is going to be interpreted as them asking they change who they are. It’s gotta come from the player once he realizes what he’s doing isn’t working anymore
