She doesn’t. In the light novels, she’s actually very much in love with Gwendal. They’ve even been caught being naughty, if you catch my drift. In fact, they’ve been caught twice. She’s just very passionate about campaigning for women’s rights because much of the country failed to fall in line with Shinou’s very feminist beliefs. You end up finding out about some of the things that happened to her when she was younger, like the fact that she had to fight to get an education because her family didn’t think she needed one as a woman who would never lead her family like her brother would, and how her brother attempted to essentially sell her off into an arranged marriage for business reasons. For a very long time, despite what Shinou preferred, women couldn’t even lead a territory as they can during the series proper. Because of all of this, she’s very intent on showing the world how important women are and how independent they can be, and especially helping disadvantaged women (and at one point, human women without an education who had been trafficked) who would have a much, much harder time standing up for themselves than she would as a noble, and one of the strongest Mazoku in the kingdom. Many of her inventions are aimed at helping disadvantaged and “weaker” women to be independent, and education is very important to her. She pretty much forced people to recognise her value, which not everybody, human or Mazoku, is in a position to do. Either way, it’s been stated that the only reason that she drags Gwendal into her experiments so much, despite teasing him about being weak, is because she deeply trusts that he’s strong enough to handle it.
