When Undefeated Fighters Get Destroyed | Part 4
Boxing is one of the world's foremost sports that can make or break the most rugged athletes in the world. And it is probably the most unpredictable of all where a single exquisitely timed punch or a catastrophic error can decide a fight. Here we look back at some of boxing’s most shocking moments where the undefeated fighters got destroyed by their counterparts.

As a lover of the sport and someone who doesn't like people getting seriously hurt, I'm grateful that fights are now max 12 rounds. Seeing even the victor basically collapse to the floor from exhaustion and all that beating for so many rounds is really scary.

6:38 - That was a night where two men's career forever took a change of paths. The 1976 Olympic bronze medalist John Tate was at the time a promising WBA world champion who had his career right infront of him and a possible unification match with Lineal/WBC champion Larry Holmes. However, Mike "Hercules" Weaver had that night other plans. A gifted athlete with power, but mentally very uneven in his dedication to win - in other words had lost many career fights he could have won if he wanted it more. But that night he rode out the storm and stoped the big favourite to become an underdog world heavyweight champion. For Tate, he would never again reach back to his promising career days as he lost a lot of courage, devotion and heart for his career. Later on he would ballon up a lot in weight and become an alcoholist. The loss ruined him.

No 1980 summer olympics for the 🇺🇸. They boycotted. Tate got the bronze in 1976

The Tate/Weaver fight was the most interesting, since Weaver seemed likely to lose on decision but turned it around with a knockout.

Mike Weaver lost Every round of that fight. He caught Tate in the 11th or the 13th but that was one punch. Tate got knocked out with 50 seconds left in the fight!! 50 seconds & he was scheduled to fight Ali in the winter of 1980

Spinks lost against Tyson the second the fight contract was signed. To this day I've never seen a fighter look that scared and that resigned to his fate before a fight. Not that I blame him Tyson was a beast.

That’s what I reckon! You can do more damage to an opponent over five rounds, than in one or two while punching yourself out. Take your time and spread the hurt out and keep your fitness levels up.

It's a great strategy if you can survive those hard shots, which he did. Like Ali vs Foreman, if you can take him into the deep water you can drown him.

To say smith was destroyed is a bit of an overstatement. Canelo was always in control but smith did have his moments just didn't have the punch power to gain canelos respect so he just got walked down every round but he went out on his shield & was prepared to get k.o'd trying to win rather than just saying yeah I went 12 rnds & you have to respect that.

In the first fight, the Pole punched himself out to the point his blows later on were of little consequence against the Russian champion who obviously did his homework on his opponent. He simply bided his time and put him down three different times to win. As to Tate and Weaver Tate was always overrated and Weaver's problem was stamina. But he was long a hard and dangerous puncher. He no doubt trained well for this fight and improved his stamina well enough to knock Tate out in the last round. I think this fight took any confidence Tate had because afterward his career went downhill fast and he was a shell of himself. The other two fights were frankly foregone conclusions as far as I'm concerned.

My favorite is Tyson's destruction of Spinks. At the time, people were IRATE that the fight only lasted 90-something seconds. Jokes everywhere about Spinks counting of dollars while the ref counted off seconds while he was down. Spinks was knocked out so hard he wasn't even counting sheep while he was down there.
