It's no joke coming into the docks anywhere in bad weather. Gauging the wind and trying to pick gears (I like to say neutral's your friend, lol) can be a challenge. You've got to come in at least once or twice as a boater in bad weather to understand how you and your boat's going to handle it. Nice vid.

When I turned 14 my dad took me to a guy in Big Pine Key and made me take two full days of on hand boating classes. Docking was almost a full day. That was 35 years ago. I made my son take a similar class at 15 years old and he is 18 today and is great at handling the boat.

03:37 None of these boaters have any experience. When a dock line is tossed to you, you don't pull on it like a horse is on the other end. You take a wrap on a cleat or piling, & leverage it in.

I'm newer to boating but use this channel as my "what not to do." Why does everyone place the bow all the way at the end of the doc rather than closer to the middle so the stern can come around where it needs to be at the end? I typically try to come in bow first at a decent angle nearer to the middle and swing the rear after I make contact

Practice. Using the wind to push your boat sideways into the dock is possible, too many skippers miscalculated this and failed to make a shallow starboard turn vs. a wide turn. Nice video. Practice that's all. Not a negative about any of these skippers. All were mindful about safety and other boats. Nice everyone. Who is the cameraman? Excellent. Thanks 😊

@Primalxbeast2 жыл бұрын
Do you have any idea how frequent lightning is in Florida? We'd be prisoners in our own homes if we never went out on days when there might be lightning and it can go from clear skies to thunderstorms very quickly. Hell, clear skies and thunderstorms at the same time isn't uncommon. It makes for quite the steam bath when you have a storm and sunny skies at the same time.

Please if there is any boaters using this boat ramp and they watch this channel, please have one rope, one end tied to the bow bollard and the other end tied to the stern bollard/cleat and don't have it too short. Even better with a bit of training a looped rope both ends fitted to the centre cleat. Once you have this loop over a dock post or bollard and all you need to do is drive slowly straight forward and this will bring your boat nicely over to the side of the dock. You do need a bit of room to do this manoeuvre.

It’s actually better to stay down wind of the jetty, otherwise you will be in a pickle trying to get the boat onto the trailer. With the wind behind you, you just have someone feed out the rope so the boat stays central to the rollers. Only problem these people are having is coming at the jetty from the wind, they should all go downwind first and then come into it for more control.

@Justatoy262 жыл бұрын
1:40 I disagree with the comment on stern vs bow first. If you put your stern into the wind, you can actually hold the boat straighter. If you’re bow into the wind, the wind can catch the bow easier and force it over. Nothing you can do will help compensate for that. Stern first; you have the engine back there, so your point that you pivot on is the area being directly affected.
