'...While everybody was milling around and celebrating, Wilt and Michael Jordan were off by themselves, seated at a side table. They were arguing vociferously about who the greatest of the 50 Greatest was. And they were going back and forth. Nobody paid them any mind, as it was like, Come on, let’s go, we’re here, and what could be better? Every time I looked back at Michael and Wilt, neither one would give it up. Finally David Stern comes in-with his list. And he starts lining everybody up in TV order to make it just right, the way the NBA always does things. As David is going about his business, he keeps glancing over at Wilt and Michael, who are still going at it. And David is getting exasperated, since this is going to be a live TV event that will wait for no one. So finally, up against the moment of truth and the clock one more time, David gets sternly serious as he barks at Michael and Wilt, “Come on, guys! Enough! Wilt! Michael! Come on, we have to go, NOW!” So these two timeless and epic giants finally do cut it off and slowly rise to their feet-and start their solemn walk to their rightful and designated places in line. Suddenly, Wilt stops and pivots backward to face Michael and all of us. The room becomes eerily quiet, because we all know that Wilt always had to, and did, have the last word. “Michael,” he says as he looks a young, little Michael Jordan skeptically up and down. Then he pauses as he looks up and down the line at all of us. Everybody is holding their breath. “Michael,” he says so all can hear, “just remember. When you played, they changed all the rules for you to make it easier for you to dominate!” Then Wilt glanced up and down the line one more time. He closed it out: “When I played, they changed all the rules to make it harder for me.” Wilt, now satisfied, proudly went and took his place, and we all marched out to take the court together.' Bill Walton, Back From The Dead (2017)

That statement by Bill Walton was 100% accurate. The game was changed back then because of Wilt's dominance. Three seconds was implemented in the lane, goal tending, staying stationary at the foul line. Wilt would dunk his free throws. The game was changed to give Michael an advantage. If you breathed on Michael, a foul would be called. This is not taking anything away from Michael's talent. The revenue in the NBA changed because of Michael. TV rights, advertising, etc was in the millions. It was about the moolah, so MJ was not going to get hurt. Also, remember when Lew Alcindor, Kareem Abdul Jabaar went to UCLA they outlawed the dunk. If Wilt had played for 20 years instead of 14, he probably would have scored over 40,000 points. Michael was good, but the Big Dipper is the greatest basketball player of all time. He was born on Mt. Olympus. He ate breakfast with Hercules and Zeus.😊

They changed the rules so that the game wasn't boring from one guy being 7'1 and the rest being 5'6 while hogging the basket. wilt is one of the greats, but diminishing Jordan for rules being made softer is not true. Jordan's PPG dropped considerably through the years and he still won the scoring championship, so the rules were not benefiting him. Same goes for the rules in today's era. They changed them so Shaq could win?

WILT CHAMBERLAIN IS THE GOAT...Basketplayer & all-around athlete ~ far beyond Jordan or anyone else in any sport EVER!!! Do the research on the things Wilt achieved as a sprinter, hurdler, javelin and discuss thrower, triple jumper, high-jumper, and shot putter. He ran a 4.6 40-yard dash at 280 lbs. His vertical leap is believed to have been 45-plus inches. He was also a world-class professional volleyball player. He bench pressed nearly 600 lbs. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Wilt was by far the strongest human being he had ever met ~ that Wilt could LITERALLY lift Arnold off the ground with one hand. Wilt got tired of leading the league in scoring n rebounding, so one year he decided to lead the league in assists, and he DID!!! Without the thre-point shot and the way they packed into the paint and played defense in the days of Wilt, Bill Russell et al... Jordan wouldn't have put up half the numbers he did in the ragtag schoolyard NBA of the late 80s & 90s. David Stern, in so many words, said in the video, had Wilt & Russell a fraction of the hyper-media coverage Jordan, Magic, Bird, etc, had the GOAT conversation would be much different. Shaq would be no match for Wilt's ungodly strength & athleticism. While shaking Shaq's hand, Wilt nearly pulled Shaq's arm out of its socket. The force of one Wilt dunk broke an opponent's foot as hit the court. Wilt Chamberlain is the greatest athlete of all time PERIOD!!!

@@jeremybiewer5465 I'm a lifter too with 51 years in the iron game behind me as a bodybuilder, powerlifter, trainer, and gym manager and I am NOT convinced that Wilt could bench press 600 Lbs. HOWEVER, I have seen some tall guys in the gym who were surprisingly strong. Arnold himself worked out with Wilt and stated this in an interview... “He took a whole stack of weights on the Universal Gym and did triceps extensions with 240 pounds like it was nothing.” That quote from Arnold does make me wonder. Wilt should have been able to easily double on the bench press what he could do on triceps pushdowns which means he could bench press 480 for ten reps. Understand that I am not easily impressed as I have met many of the greats such as Lee Haney, Boyer Coe, Chris Dickerson,, and others. I even went to high school with the great powerlifter Mike Bridges and trained in the same gym as him for years, we were even neighbors for awhile and ran the bars together after my divorce. I once personally witnessed Mike Bridges do a legal squat with 1,025 Lbs. at a body weight of 180 but it was a training lift in the gym and he never duplicated that in competition so people don't believe me when I tell them what I saw.. Unfortunately the legend of Wilt's bench press is something that we cannot either verify or outright dismiss.

@CaneFu Awesome that you've been around so many greats. I've been around some too including Scott Mendelson who had the world record for a while. With all due respect just because you can do x weight on triceps exercise doesn't mean you can bench x amount. Triceps are hugely important but there is more to benching big than just triceps strength. I benched 525 lbs raw with a pause at 240 lbs so I know a thing or two about benching big(720 lbs with a shirt).

@@dc4690 Who cares if he's #1 or #2 at his position in various categories? Wilt and MJ are (essentially) tied for #1 in points, Wilt is #1 in rebounds, and probably #1 in blocks of anyone, any position. (per game of course). For assists per game, they're both in the 100s. Not all time greats no matter how you slice it there. For rebounds per game, again Wilt is #1. Jordan isn't even in the top 250. For steals Jordan is #4 for blocks he's #227. Unfortunately we'll never know Wilt's blocks and steals numbers, but like I said he is likely #1 in blocks. He had 8.8 blocks per game from a 112 game sample. Most probably later in his career too. That's mental even if it was his prime. Wilt is a more complete player. You get more points, rebounds, and blocks out of him than Jordan could ever make up in steals and assists. PER is a meaninless statistic. It's a made up math formula (not a law of the Universe or an easily defined stat like a point or an assist), and guess what, it's made up to make sure MJ is #1. If MJ wasn't #1 they would rewrite the formula. The NBA is about marketing, and Jordan is still selling more stuff than Wilt or his estate (since he's no longer with us). Win shares is a made up stat too. And he's not even #1, KAJ is. Those other formulas are just that: made up formulas too. Most scoring titles of all time: this is a good stat to list finally. I'd argue it's not that important though, obviously a player will join the game, improve their craft, then eventually leave due to age or injury. Wilt had a shorter peak then Jordan and kind of lost it after the knee injury. I think peak statistic is more important than longevity. Who would you rather have? 1961-1962 Wilt or 1986-1987 MJ? I think you'd be nuts to take MJ. Also Wilt has 7 scoring titles, that ain't too far behind 9 lol. He was also asked to not score so many points after 7 seasons too lol. All defensive teams: didn't exist for most of Wilt's career, how is he supposed to do better in a stat that can't exist? He probably would have been all defensive team for much of the 1960s. Don't be disingenuous, how is Wilt supposed to do that when it didn't exist? lol. How about this stat: When WIlt was scoring a lot of points, he lead the league in field goal percentage. MJ was never more than #10 in field goal percentage in his best year. Wilt was #1 NINE TIMES out of his 13 seasons. MJ was #1 ZERO TIMES. Wilt has almost as many 60 point games as the entire NBA - combined (32 out of 82). 8 times more than Jordan. For every game Jordan dropped 60 on a team? Wilt did it 8 times. Jordan's field goal percentage is less than 50%. Wilt's is higher. So all those points Wilt scored? He did it on less shots than Jordan, lol.

Well yeah it's media coverage because if you can't see something you can't witness it. Lol. They weren't watching basketball in China in the 60s. Also European players were mediocre in the 80s and 90s. Now you have European players that can play. Why? Because media introduced them to bball in the 90s - 00s. The media doesn't dunk the ball, doesn't get an assist, no steals, no blocks, doesn't shoot free-throws, doesn't take charges. The players do. All the media does is introduce the game to a wider audience. We didn't need the media to know players in the 80s and 90s were good. If you grew up in any mecca of basketball, NYC, LA, Texas, Virginia, Midwest, NC, ATL, you KNEW who were great players. Media didn't tell us that. We watched it in person during summer street ball. Maybe you all needed the media but to people that grew up in these areas, We already could pretty much tell you who would be a top 25 player in 5-7 years.

Jordan doesn’t compare to wilt. That’s not fair for MJ or anyone else in history. The only things that should matter is your overall game on the floor but since people love to look at all this other extra stuff we can still see, the number of things on the actual basketball court wilt did better than MJ is far above the number of things MJ did better than wilt We can goto weaknesses and see MJ and wilt are about the same when it comes to MJs inability to guard bigs in the post when completely switched off as well as his inability to guard bigger versatile guards n small forwards anywhere on the floor as well as struggles with the craftiest of guards compared to wilts horrible free throw shooting We can goto skill set and see wilt has overall more weapons combining 5 categories of the game across offense and defense plus doing it more efficiently We can goto athleticism and see wilt is more athletic overall We can go to fundamentals and see wilt is more fundamentally sound overall We can goto rings without context and see jordan has 4 more rings We can go into context and look at hall of fame competition you win against and see wilt had far more hall of fame competition he won series against beating teams with 5-8 hall of famers multiple times where as jordan never beat a team with over 3 hall of famers on it for a series We can look at losing a series when your team outnumbers the opponents in hall of famers and see jordan at least lost once while wilt never lost one time under these circumstances We can look at the amount of hall of famers that outnumbered your team that u still beat in a series which wilt has beat 2-4 more hall of famers than he had where as MJ only ever beat a team with 1 more hall of famer than he had. Never even beat a team with 2 or more We can look at awards and rings and see jordan has 22 trophies (7 of which didn’t exist or barely existed in wilts career) to wilts 9 giving jordan more We can look at analytics and see without even taking into account wilts blocks and steals and see wilt is only behind MJ by 1 player in win shares per 48 and ahead of him by 1 player in win shares in general and far ahead of him in defensive win shares We can go by versatility and dominance over position and see wilt dominates his position in stat titles and most other categories far more than MJ did his position as well as blows MJ out the water in versatility able to guard all positions far more effectively than MJ is as well as have multiple assists titles across season and playoffs while MJ doesn’t have one We can go to stat titles across reg season n playoffs n see MJ doesn’t come close to wilt over 40-20 something We can goto records and see MJ doesn’t come close to wilt 68-20something We can goto rule changes to stop wilts greatness and see MJ doesn’t come close to wilt 4-0 Wilt is heads and shoulders above MJ and is the goat hands down

You keep getting exposed by the facts. Lmaoooooo 😂😂😂. MJ is better at everything than Wilt Scoring, passing, assists, clutch, handles, skills, efficiency, midrange, free throws, overall shooting,IQ,Leadership,Impact, playoffs performer everything MJ is just the 🐐 he is also a better post player and a better perimeter defender because of steals he also was more athletic he had a 48 inch vertical Wilt having a 48 inch vertical was proven to be a myth he had around 40 inch vertical. MJ also had more moves aerobic and offense is nothing Wilt could do better than MJ stop lying about this facts only things he is better at on is obviously rebounding much better I ain’t gonna lie about that but he is also a center and the stats were inflated due to so many possessions and faster pace he wouldn’t catch 23 rebounds a game in any other era from the 80s to now but regardless Wilt is better at rebounding, blocks, interior defense, overall defense, dominance, finishing because he could dunk easily yeah and nothing else 😂😂😂. So conclusion MJ 21-6 overall game let’s look at the accomplishments MJ rings,MVP,FMVP,1 more All Star 1 more All NBA also All Defensive 1st team fine 10x scoring champ and steals titles let’s look at Wilt rebounding titles 11x he led the league in assists also in blocks both records and that’s pretty much it also MJ show up in the playoffs he led the playoffs 10x in scoring Wilt only once showing his big meltdowns 😂😂😂😂 from 7 to 1 in the playoffs big massive playoffs choker also MJ led it in steals Wilt only rebounds but Bill Russell even led it more because he increase his game when it matters most so at the end of the day MJ>Wilt all time better stats overall game more accomplishments only thing Wilt had is basically things over my that are because of being a center and his size and strength in the weak ass era he played in but those things aren’t as much as MJ because MJ being a shooting guard in a dominant big men era and still doing all this I wonder he playing in the 60s he would win every award and championship and led in all stats every year easily 😂😂😂. You put Shaq in that era and he could also average 50 a game just give him the ball and scored on those 6 foot unathletic centers

The biggest difference between Wilt and Michael is that Michael is relatively useless to a team if he's not shooting 23 times a game and playing within a very specific coaching system surrounded by a very specific kind of roster. He's a pattern player of the highest order. Chamberlain, on the other hand, is the complete diametric opposite of a pattern player, giving whatever his coach and team wanted him to do. The mere fact that every single one of his coaches stuck him in the game for the most absurd amount of playing time ever given to a human being is evidence enough he is the most valuable player to have ever stepped foot on the hardwood.

This proves JORDAN was the greater athlete! Look for those who dont know, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and other tall guys in the association ALL told michael and others who asked about michael the same thing...they said MJ would NEVER be the face of the league...NEVER be a champion...NEVER etc...fast forward to 1997 almost A DECADE after guys like Walt Frasier and other tall guys dissed Jordan...Jordan in early and late 90s IS THE NBA! He did EVERYTHING wilt, russell, and walt said he couldnt do AND MORE. Wilt chamberlain may have got the last word as he said it under his breath as they exited the room (🙄) but just because you are the tallest person doesnt make you the best player. YES wilt they changed the games rules to make it harder because guess what...the game was STILL VERY YOUNG and even though wilt dominated he played in a vastly SMALLER association (8 teams in THE WHOLE NBA) of course they had to change the game shot clock additions 3 point lines these all developed the game...now wilt says he is the better player because they made rules to make the game more difficult. Well wilt the game was 1000x more difficult and PHYSICAL when it was ERA JORDAN! Wilt may have been the tallest player 1958 with only 8 other teams in the NBA...but JORDAN WAS NEVER THE TALLEST AND HE HAD MORE THAN 8 TEAMS TO GO AGAINST IN EASTERN CONFERENCE...oh and JORDANs era actually played 82 games...instead of 72 game season of wilt chamberlain days! Wilt said they changed the game for jordan to make it easier for him....LMAO YES THEY HAD TO!!! NO ONE WAS TACKLING AND INTENTIONALLY TRYING TO INJURE WILT CHAMBERLAIN...BUT EVERYTEAM AND EVERY PLAYER STARTER TO THE BENCH WANTED TO TRIP HACK KICK PUNCH SCRATCH AT MICHAEL JORDAN....THE 90S WAS A DEFENSIVE GOLDEN AGE BUT SOME FOULS WERENT EVEN CALLED AND FLAGRANTS DEFINITELY WERENT CALLED. So Wilt...in an era thats atleast 3 times as big as wilts and WAY MORE physical they HAD to change the rules for JORDAN because when JORDAN played he could do EVERYTHING inside outside scoring assisting and defending he was a leader and he made everyone on his team better. Wilt you were HATING on Jordan because you couldnt comprehend that someone smaller than you was BETTER THAN YOU and Jordans greatness was actually VERIFIED by going through the struggles and becoming the strongest player mentally. Yes wilt you are taller but guess what so was george murasun 🙄, michael jordan was shorter but he did things Wilt couldnt like BE THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE FROM ROOKIE YEAR TO HIS FINAL RETIREMENT AT WASHINGTON. 3 decades of greatness were more teams and more players and more games and more pressure than wilt would ever see in his tiny world perspective. Yes Wilt you were great....IN A LEAGUE OF UNDER 10 TEAMS...but JORDAN carried the league into international and global domination without question! Wilt its ok you got the last word in a conversation but realistically on the court is where it matters and thats were JORDAN FLORISHED. Sad when those older players who hated on jordan early in his career were still the ones hating on him decade later...for real wilt? Get a life lol! THE LAST REASON JORDAN IS BETTER IS SIMPLY THIS...jordan never publicly has said he is better or the greatest to ever played...in the early 90s during his first three peat (years before 97) he said its not fair to say he is the best because he never played against other players from different eras. Jordan has the upper hand on Wilt because wilt is like lebron james saying look mommy im the best player ever and everyone looking at wilt like hmm...and here chimes the only quote that matters about being the best...."when you are good at something you will tell people, BUT WHEN YOU ARE GREAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY YOU ARE GREAT!" So yes wilt by default you cant be the greatest basketball player because you said you were the greatest just like lebron...in the end there is only 1 man with UNDEFEATED RECORD and that is MICHAEL JORDAN (Mr 6 and 0, Mr 2 x 3peat). The facts that old guys before jordan and young guys after jordan still try to pick shots at him only shows why jordan is the best...no one else gets mentioned...and its simply one reason why...jordan is the best!

Jordan had more skillset and did more, as well as put up numbers all across the board for his size and position.
