Amen. The worst thing is when it comes down to concrete stuff you can point to like beauty where we've been telling them we like their natural beauty, we just want them to take care of it. Yes they are. I personally met a black American woman in London Heathrow Airport on my way to Lagos, Nigeria last summer. I flew out of Orlando where I live to Miami, and connected in London. On my way to the connecting terminal in London, this black sister who was heading in the same direction called me to tell me to drink the water in my water bottle because the border patrol at the connecting terminal wouldn’t allow me proceed through security check with any liquid. So I thanked her and that’s how we walked on together chatting. When we both cleared security and we’re seated at the gate for our connecting flight to Lagos, we got into a long discussion. She was from Ocala, Florida which is about an hour from Orlando. She was a teacher and a single mother of a 5 year old. She went and married this guy in Nigeria. He can’t come to the U.S, so she goes twice a year. She pays rent fir the apartment they guy lives in, and she pays the lease on the guy’s tailoring shop. She told me, she recently paid for additional seamstress to be hired. At first, I pitied her knowing very well how some dubious and dishonest rogues in my country operate. She wasn’t a bad looking sister, but what struck me is the extent she had gone just to find and keep a man. Would she had committed half her resources like that to a man here in the states? Would she have been that committed? She travels twice a year to Nigeria folks. Ticket is anywhere from $1700-$2500 round trip, and that’s not counting all the dollars she’ll put out while there throughout summer and later Christmas. I wished her well before we boarded.
