I feel decently comfortable with most other PDX games, but HOI4 confuses the shit out of me. I load up a save, look at the factories and just nope out. I've read guides, watched videos, ect. I know WHAT to do, I don't know WHY to do it. How do I know how many factories to make, how do I know what my army is missing. HOI4 will forever be out of my reach. But I enjoy watching you play, You somehow are so chaotic and yet successful! Well... to degree

Well you can calculate that for starters - every piece of equipment and every building has fixed value. Plus if it's not competetive game you can basically estimate. That's part of the appeal - you don't know when the war start unless you are the one to luanch it. You build civilian factories that boost your industry long term since they allow to build more buildings faster or build other things you need that have to be ready. It seems to me that instead of not knowing WHY building something you should rather look WHAT something does to your country and look what you need. Then you will find anwser to "WHY"

It took me like 3 weeks to 'learn' Hoi 4. Then like 6 months later I would still be finding more things i was doing wrong. Feeling dumb. I enjoy this content and I was cringing within the first minute. The best way to learn is watch like 40 min long guides or have someone teach you.

You know, seeing this video reminded me why, despite my head telling he that Hoi is not that hard, my Steam account tells me I have 500+ hours in this game and at least 100 of those were just learning the game ( add another hundred for every new Mechanic added in a DLC) so really: can’t blame you for not understanding some things. It does take time to understand this …. Clowncar (as I lovingly call it).

Great game as USSR! A successful revolution against Stalin is difficult, usually takes a few tries to get the right balance of political paranoia vs de-Stalinization. The Latvians 🇱🇻 allowed the Germans military access, but if you reloaded to right before you declared war on Germany you'd be fine as long you start the war with Latvia 🇱🇻 first and beat them before attacking Germany

You can do it! It took me about a month to not lose instantly, i dont call myself competent despite having about 1000 hours in it even now.... My biggest tips how not to die: -Look out for supply! Without supply even the best divisions are thrash your best friends are a shit load of trucks,grand battle plan doctrine helps with supply too so its the best one, haing small templates (about 20 width) with logistic company in each of them. -Make sure your divs have full equipment! Hope this helps good luck with the game....

HoI3 chased me away from the HoI series for good. I failed to get over the tedium of it all. Played HoI2 a lot back in the day, but I stuck with only EU and CK afterwards. So yeah, this guy cannot into HoI.

Sometimes less is more in this game. Too many units is just confusing and makes managing supply so much harder. I think you need to improve the division template to make the individual divisions. And you really did choose one of the harder starts in the game. The soviets usually die after the civil war because of the germans. Their industry is so much better if the soviets didn't do all the base focuses and you just don't have the time for them if you need to fight off stalins paranoia

There’s a lot of good tutorials if you want to take a dive into aerial and naval combat. There’s also several on the other aspects by some really good tutorial makers out there. I’ve learned a lot and started doing much better with minor nations than I did previously as a major

Ok a couple of hoi tips , 1) fight in areas where you have supply and at least (yellow) limited air superiority and if you don't have these things stay defensive. 2) let most of your frontline dig in and only attack with a small portion of forces but in overwhelming force. 3) 80% of your divisions should be defensive (Mostly rifles with support engineers and aa), once you have created a defensive division template duplicate it and create an offensive division with more stuff and as much as 50% armor or artillery and the other %50 infantry or trucks. (High population nations can just use arty.) Also set your offensive division to the tipple golden chevron (priority for reinforcement. Play china with no ai frontline and learn to fallback and defend then counterattack late game when you unlock powerful focusses.

Im here from Alex's channel. After watching him melt down and panic over watching you. Haha. As a HOI 4 player i really enjoyed your game of playing as the Soviets. Im not gonna sit here and say "OOoooo what bad choices you made", No. I prefer to let the player...Play the game! No need for lectures. You ARE playing as one of the more difficult countries. The Soviet union is difficult to play as. It was a fun game! Every day is a learning day. And it was an entertaining game! Hope to see your next HOI 4 game.

Me, after watching this video, did anyone told you not to play it at speed 5, when you are at war ? max should be 3 . Also if you have ´´friendly nation´´, next to the one, you want to declare war with, you can simply ask to move military from their teritory. When you want, to make naval invasion, you have to make sure you have 50% naval supremacy, soo you wont get sinked by some random fishboat, disquised as German submarine. To do that, you need to select your ships in dockyards, get them admirals, and send them into the sea, to patrol. If you need help, to play Hoi4 , i can help you, and teach you basics, explain what is why going on, let me know, i have already trained 3 of mine friends, on how to make good infantry divisions, with some artillery, let me know, if you want some training, and beat this game.

You didn't lose to Latvia, you lost to Germany which invaded by using Latvia to get to you. Also, Moscow is the best capital to have because you have trains running all over the place that give you the possibility to supply your troops. You also have the ability use motorisation supply for all your divisions using the army interface screen. That way you don't manually have to change the supply of each province. You need to upgrade your troops using army experience, giving them better equipment and especially support equipment. Artillery is very important because that lets you break through the enemy's tanks. You also did the mistake of attacking the German line first when they were going to attack you. When able, always let the enemy attack you first so that their organisation goes down and then attack them. Also, use the battle plan button so you don't need to micro everything. Micro is good certain times, but when the enemy has so many holes in their front it is better to just use the battle plan.

Your poor, poor troops, starving and freezing on the front. And before that, just sitting there because no one told them to get into boats. And of course the navy is sitting in the harbour. And the industry is still producing more toasters then tanks. But yeah, after watching both videos, it's not as bad as it could have been. I've had my own share of issues with the USSR. I recommend going with something a little bit smaller, less iconic and more out of the way next time perhaps?

You're still building civs in 1941? Generally you should always start building military factories at least one and a half years before you get into a major war. Also, it wasn't just Latvia, but as they were in the Axis Germany was able to invade through them, but because they advanced from Latvian territory all land they took fell under latvian occupation.
