Biggest waste of my life was learning paratrooper and naval invasions just to dab my superiority on my friends. Kinda worth it in the moment but now my friends won't play HOI4 with me anymore.

My biggest criticism of hoi4 is definitely how it consistently fails to do the one thing it's supposed to do: Accurately represent World War II. Without the player constantly intervening and using console commands to force it, the AI will never re-create World War II on it's own. The devs are so focused on making alternate history paths that they've totally forgotten to make history paths. You can leave historical ai on, the British will still invade Bremen in 1940 and capitulate Germany by 1941. Japan will still leave the home islands totally undefended and the Americans will end the war in a year flat.

See guys, the trick is to bait and switch women by getting the girl first THEN you start playing PDX games once they've invested too much time in the relationship to start over. And chocolate, chicks dig chocolate. The trick is definitely distract them with chocolate. Edit: Evidently that trick works on anybody, I've totally forgotten I was supposed to be playing Vicky 3 today and now I'm just eating chocolate. Edit2: I didn't even realize I was an 'American Main' until vicky 3 because America is in so few PDX games (because let's face it, it's 1444 or bust in EU4.) Just add it to the pile of reasons I'm buying HoI4 when it goes on sale, America exists in the start date. _heaves onto pile_

What nations are you guys playing? At higher levels it doesn’t cut it to just be good at micro and generally know what to do there are specific meta builds you need to do.

How do you play 3k hours? Mods, very good mods. Old World Blues is my downfall. Probably have 1k hours on that mod alone.

Between this and EaW I seriously am going to have to pick up HoI4 for the mods alone. EU4 doesn't update any of the cool ones like LOTR and the WoW one is... kinda eh. EaW looks like fun to poke around in but if there's a fallout mod then I will literally lose myself in it.

Honestly, I've played since launch and the more I play, the less I want to play anymore. Once you understand the game, the AI seems braindead, the alt history gets boring and ever game starts to feel the same. So I have no idea how someone can 3k+ hours and not literally hate the game (even playing multiplayer, so much time is spent in lobbies waiting for resynchronization or players to join, cannot be too fun).

The only way I break the sameness in PDX games is mods that mess with the starting locations/powers/map, otherwise you really are just playing out the same timeline over and over and over...

@@fyr3st0rm65 yeah I know, but Kaiserreich is way too laggy for me. And many others are unpolished or try to change too much (like modern day mods). The vanilla+ stuff is my favorite but even they can't make up for terrible AI.
