Tim is right about going hard and all out. I have found that this is the biggest problem people have with self defense. They keep trying/hoping that they can get out of it with out a fight, and even when the punching or threatening starts, they keep trying to diffuse the situation. When it's time go you go, and you go like a maniac. As for "closing the distance" if someone comes up to you for the "interview," that's not a good idea. You stay away until you know the fight has started (I always said, : "the fight starts before it starts"), then you initiate.

@OK Team No, not really. If that "slob" doesn't have much distance he might not get the weapon out to use it. Handguns "print" against clothing and if you know what to look for, it's even easier to see when the person is fat. A knife? Only if they can get close enough to use it. If some fat slob pulls a knife you can run away and hope the slob chases you. When they are winded, which won't take long, they will be easier to deal with or you don't have to deal with them at all. You're also assuming Tim or I don't have a weapon of our own. I'll bet on my ability against the kind of guy you describe....a "slob who does nothing but play fortnight and eat burger king all day" Better to have a plan to deal with that, than no plan at all.

You never need to answer a question. That's really realizing that the time to GO is NOW. Kept me safe more times than I know. When someone I'm not sure about approaches me with a question, I don't slow down. I speed up. I'll power walk if they don't stop in my way and I'll flat out jog if they do until I'm over to the next street and visible to others. I've literally walked into oncoming traffic (true story, not a joke) to avoid answering someone's question who didn't seem to have any reason to be asking me a question. I figured the car coming straight for me MIGHT swerve to avoid me but wouldn't have time to stop for the other guy if he followed. Gamble paid off. Don't stop. Don't answer questions. Don't make contact. Just keep moving until they're a memory.

There are multiple scenarios here; it is not clear for me in this video the attacker is armed with a knife or a handgun or is empty handed because all create different scenarios. If the attacker is armed with a knife, you keep your head and neck as far as possible with a maximum stretched hand distance, and still keep your head away. You save your life. Good kick in the ball is safer and works better. Regarding pushing him the way in the film; two dangers here 1- if the attacker is good in judo or in wrestling, you might finish yourself and welcome a tragedy; he can put you down when you try to push him; you never know what the attacker is good at, and never try to guess. 2- If the attacker has a knife, he may knife you in the shoulder or back when you push him. You expose your shoulder to him because automatically his hand with a knife goes to your shoulder to protect himself from falling back. If he has a handgun, tell him that the security camera above is filming him. when he looks up, kick the ball or punch his neck apple. If he is empty handed, .....

I have a message that I’m sharing where I can, some may not want to hear this, but I ask that we stay polite and seek truth together. 😊 Love is an action. Feed the hungry, house the homeless, father the orphan, and protect the defenseless and vulnerable. Read the Word for yourself, not only relying on others for guidance. Pray for guidance.Yahushua/Yeshua - His Hebrew name who is usually called (Jesus) taught to keep the whole Word. Including the Law/Torah. Matthew 5:17 “Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not [g]the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished! 19 Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches [h]others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever [i]keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Read 1 John. John tells us that sin is lawlessness, and that we must keep the commandments. Trust in the atonement of Yahushua/Yeshua who is usually called Jesus, and keep God (YHWH)'s whole Word/commandments. Revelation 12:17 So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. Revelation 14:12 Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. Go to parableofthevineyard youtube channel for information about the bible and good bible studies. I'm in no way paid or sent by him for advertising. I just have learned a lot from his content. He's just a man who is trying to learn as well. :) Yeshua died so we may be resurrected to eternal life.....

This needs ALOT more context. If you take off on someone every time you feel “threatened”...your ass is going to be in prison within a month. You cannot, I repeat, cannot just attack someone because you feel threatened. You need to visually see some weapon or see the beginning of an attack (wild swing, lowering shoulder, getting in your personal space on purpose) before reacting. Tackling someone because you “feel threatened” will get you laughed at by every judge in the country and swiftly put behind bars. Love Tim Kennedy but I wish this clip was longer and explained a lot more to people who take it at face value.

@MrJabloney Since we're in the same comment section, yes, we watched the same video. I'm not saying to ignore important danger signs, or to not react preemptively to save yourself from a real attack....but the way this is presented can be easily misinterpreted by someone who has a naturally fearful or anxious nature. 1:27-1:34 " The best time to go is now; that's that moment where(...) you feel threatened". Telling someone that who doesn't understand the legal ramifications of what "truly" feeling/being threatened is as opposed to "I subjectively feel scared" is a majorly dangerous thing to teach. Someone walking up to you asking you for something, in the right context, does not constitute a threat. If someone is lost or short on change or just needs help...you can't feel threatened and treat them as an enemy because you're intimidated. It's just not good logic. Like I said, what most of Tim says is pure gold and I have more respect for him than most SF guys out there. But you have to speak up when something can be misconstrued in a potentially dangerous/lethal way. I don't want people starting to tackle others left and right because their personal sense of "I feel threatened" hasn't been conditioned enough to comprehend what actually constitutes, legally, someone threatening you.

Yes and no. Sometimes you have to wait for the moment of opportunity, that might mean complying then go. Sometimes items aren't worth fighting for and possibly losing your life over so just let em have it.Other times, yes you do have to go now. But that can be a problem, and it's shown in many cases where cops shoot people thinking they had a gun/knife when they didn't. More proper training is needed for police officers not to act out on gut instincts or emotion. As for the everyday citizen, be smart, be alert and aware of your surroundings and wait for your opportunity to strike, that might mean going asap. And when you do, like Kennedy said, go 110% effort to protect your life and loved ones.

My boss called me into his office today and I decided it was "go" time. He initiated the moment and I apple-sauced him.

Pro Tips: 1. I like to 'draw a line in the sand.' "Can you please stop right there and talk to me from there! If they don't listen, they're already telling you what their intentions are. 2. Whether an on duty officer OR a citizen carrying a weapon, if somebody comes at you with a weapon (bat, knife, etc.) the natural instinct is to go for your weapon. That may not be the best first move. The best first move may be to 'get off the line' and deflect to give yourself an opportunity to draw your weapon and respond. But what time is now? I think I am going to consult The Smiths for my strategy from here on in. Seriously though, you never want to be a beat behind the music. The best way to prevent that is to get a beat ahead.

Sounds like "imminence" is the topic, and that is one of the 5 factors needed to establish a self defense case; miss any one and self-defense fails, speaking of court system. Bottom line, you have to be able to articulate why you in fear for your life and that fear was both objectively and subjectively reasonable. The "Go" actions seem to be assuming all five factors are in place.
