There is playing with attitude, and there is then Eric Marienthal.... what a force of nature, this is a solo transcription on the Jazz Police by the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band.

lol...I'm still chuckling at the thought of there being actual under-cover 'jazz police' patrolling the park --- as if they're goin' to suddenly spring from the side wings, instructing the fellas to 'cut it', while dragging Eric away as he's still whalin'. Marienthal is simply insane! Thanks for this :)

Eric is such a cool guy! I got the chance to play with him with a local community college band. It was such an awesome experience. Not only is he amazing at saxophone, but he also is super funny! I'm so glad I got to meet him.

Sal's reaction to Eric's solo is priceless. He plays so great himself, but he is always so supportive and into Eric's solo's, it's great to see. When I visited a show of the Elektric Band at catalina's in LA in 2016, Sal came with his partner to watch as well and had absolutely that same vibe. They seem like good friends. And a great lesson for people in sections, because there can be some envy going on as we all know... You CAN be support supportive of your compatriots and be a good/great/awesome musician still yourself. Do you have had either a super supportive peer (like Sal Lozano here) or the opposite, as describe above, where you felt some competition going on? Let's discuss in the comments :) Oh, and if you would be interested, we have a limited 20% discount for 7 days on the "Saxophone Fundamentals: How To Sound Like A Pro" course. Haha. I guess Sal is the alto guy reacting to the solo. It's always great IMO to show support for your bandmates with a smile, a yell, a "hell yeah!" when it moves you. Other people like it when they see the band is digging the playing. Good motivator for the soloist, though Eric M. doesn't look like he needs any outside (no pun intended) motivation. Thanks for the vid!

Haha Paul 😂, Eric indeed will be fine but exactly what you said, still so much fun to see others dig it in the band. Sal Lozano is indeed the 2nd alto, insane player as well

that cameradery is soooo important in music in general! so many people are not giving any support whatsoever to other fellow musicians, but here we can at least see a great example how you can be moved by the musicality of another fellow player! This is whats about!

I studied with Sal at CSULB for my Master's, and he's one of the most wonderful people and musicians I've ever met. He is an incredibly humble man and has nothing but admiration and respect for his peers. He preached that music is egoless, and he certainly practices it! A great role model, and a monster player on just about any woodwind instrument.

In my high school jazz band, I played first tenor and after pretty much every solo I took, the lead alto gave me a fist bump when I went to sit back down. When I remembered, I’d give him one too haha! He was a great player to sit next to, and a super awesome guy. I’ve noticed people who react to the stuff you play tend to be really nice, too!

Amazing transcription! Just one thing, I'd prefer the sheet music to be plain white, not the inverse color of the background, which I think is what it is now -- where the background is light, it gets quite hard to read, e.g. around 0:47.

Thanks for the feedback Felix! Yes, should have made it more contrasting, this was my bad. I like to keep it this way to have a bit of a more signature way of editing to other transcription channels, but also within this concept I could have done better contrasting it. Anyways, feedback appreciated. P.s. if you wan't read it properly, you can download the Pdf from our website :) that's just normal white paper and black notes ;)

The ability to overlay the music on the image is quite neat and much harder to achieve in black though. Maybe a warmer shade of white would do the trick ?

Did he really trill with side E? I think its the side C
@SharpElevenMusic
@SharpElevenMusic 11 ай бұрын
No, absolutely 100% sure by the sound and view of it 😊. Finger B, trill with the upper right side key which makes it trill to a D, it's the minor third trill that gives it the bluesy sound. With side C, the middle right side key it would be a trill of a half tone, being more "classical"
