Absolutely not. Final BP floor dmc3 vergil is way scarier. Dude eats 75% of your health in like 3 hits and is way harder to avoid especially since this vergil is actually using summoned swords. Dmc4 dante's counter game is definitely more on point in dmc4 but that's only because the AI responds almost entirely by reaction. You don't have to "read" dmc4 dante because almost everything he does is predictable based on how you choose to approach him. As a result, the AI is easy to abuse. This is why he's basically harmless if you just run away from him and kite him. Even when he uses royal guard, all you have to do is let him build up his royal guard with summoned swords or JJ cuts, then rapid slash through him without starting the attack too close to him and his royal release misses like 90% of the time, then you can just return to kiting him or JJ cutting him from a distance if you really want to cheese the fight. Sure you can choose to fight him head on and have a slick fight trying to one up each other's counters, but the fact that you have the choice to back off in a pinch to pretty much no consequence really makes him not all that intimidating. To beat dmc3 vergil with the same efficiency you can't really rely on gimmicks aside from ones that require constant precision, such as royal guard itself, perfect trick dodges with vergil, and reading and reacting to each attack and punishing them. It's a lot harder to run away from dmc3 vergil because he can just trick to you, round trip, Jcut end, and when in his desperation state, do his high speed helm breaker spam which can chase you half across the battlefield which is twice the size of the battlefield against dmc4 dante. Not to mention all of this is accelerated when he's in DT and he has unique summoned swords attacks that the player can't replicate. No amount of just running in the opposite direction will save you unless you actively time your dodges while doing so. Plus even if you successfully run from him, he will just heal all the while, forcing you to take him head on. The only exception is if you're using a super costume or nelo Angelo. But then one could just use super vergil against dmc4 dante and spam judgement cut end over and over and never actually get take a single hit of damage because of it because the AI will just get up and keep trying to run at you hense why it's the most used method of getting the untouchable trophy. If dante can't hit you with royal guard, he has to chip away at you because the rest of his attacks don't have the sheer damage that final floor dmc3 vergil does. I'm pretty sure the dmc4 dante doesn't even use DT. I'm not fond of fighting dmc4 Dante because his AI is literally designed to be abused and defeating that is far more tedious than it is satisfying. He relies on AI cheese such as inhuman royal guard timing so much that you have to cheese him back. Hardly a battle worthy of being called "stylish." Dmc4 dante is a mind-blowingly fun character to use, truly his peak in terms of gameplay. I'd argue that he's even better than dmc5 dante. This is why his AI is so damn disappointing to fight because he uses next to none of that prowess and instead just relies solely reactionary AI timing. Like he should be Air tricking into your face regularly and using all of his tools in tandum instead of taking potshots at you, stingering you when you miss, and then switching to royal guard every 2 or 3 exchanges. The fact that he just chases you on foot in a circle is such a buzzkill. Dmc5 did his AI better.

He only lost at the end of that game, because he (lorewise) relied too much on force edge which was not actually stronger than rebellion because it was sealed. Then he moped the floor with him as Urizen three times in a row and almost killed him, then back as Vergil in 5 he had a slight upper hand in their fight. It's technically Dante who has been playing catch-up for longer. By the end of the last game they are even, as Vergil said himself.

With Nero It's not that bad, since he never dodges your grabs, so It's your best chance for free busters. But with the other character, It's a different story. Never played the Special Edition though or went far with Dante in Bloody Palace to know for sure.

This is how I feel when I fight Dante in DMC 5. As soon as I hear that Royalguard, I just do not even touch that man with anything. Pro tip: Don’t hit him while he’s in Royalguard until after he’s done an attack animation because literally one accidental Mirage Blade can mean life or death especially on Dante Must Die.
