Yeah, it's called life changes. There are times when you're doing well and that can go away at any day, so you're left over with stuff you were able to afford in the past. My friend had the nerve to ask me why I had a designer bag but I was struggling financially at that moment. Uhhh because I still had a great job not that long ago that allowed me to spend disposable income on myself. Then I was laid off, wiped out my savings during the time I was job hunting, aka I became broke.

I am writing this long response because I hope the creators continue with this idea. This was a funny and accurate portrayal of how some people live. This feels like it comes from place if truth. Not everyone knows this life, but not knowing it doesn't make it less real. A lot of people are like this, working poor. All their necessities are covered, but they are not living the way they want to live. Being broke doesn't mean nice things are out of reach, it just means on the list of priorities they are low and take longer to achieve. So you can be broke and have an iPhone, a nice car and etc. The problem that is clearly outlined in video, and easy to comprehend if you base the video and its characters on what is presented, is that the characters are broke and they still aspire to live a life they can't YET afford. Although, they sacrifice on food (partially because Miloh and apparently none of them can cook) they are not willing to forgo everything. So they take advantage of free wifi, and clothes return policies. Could they survive without the extras, yes, but they don't want to survive, they want to live a certain kind of life. So they search for the shady hook up to save some money. Like many people they keep their dreams ( entertainment career) in the forefront and take care of business (work to pay rent and eat) while wanting more. So what? People wanting more than they have is why America is the way it is for good or bad. Also, why do people equate being broke with living in a rundown tenement style apartment. In the real world, apartment prices are more often dictated by area and demand, not decor. Also, it's a shared apartment. That is a part of the sacrifice. So Quinta et al keep this and other ideas coming. Don't be afraid to share your truths and stories because people's limited comprehension skills prevent from separating a story from their simplistic racial understanding of the world. American media often presents people of color in impoverished contexts, but it doesn't mean that people of color can't tell stories that explore those contexts in interesting ways like you all had.

Some of you are acting real daft as hell so let me clear thing up for you. BROKE and POVERTY are different things. Broke usually means you don't have a lot of money to spend and are just barely making ends meet. Poverty is the state of not only having no money, but no food, or other basic resources. So this isn't necessarily a diss to people in undeveloped nations. The people in this video are BROKE not in POVERTY so it's not that far of a stretch that they manage to have iPhones. Maybe Quinta's mom pays her bill.
