hello! a quick disclaimer ⇩
this is a vlog, not an advice video. there’s no right/wrong way to write a book and my process is, in fact, very scatterbrained lol
I'm pretty much just rambling through my thought process trying to work through a new story idea and thought it'd be fun to capture some of my brainstorming chaos. :)

sorry for the comment a full year after the post date, but I just found your channel and have been gradually binging lol. just wanted to say that you're the first writer-vlogger I've come across that has the EXACT same development process that I do, and im so thrilled lmao. I don't usually enjoy watching process videos, but yours are pure inspiration!! as far as planner-panster titles, I really enjoy Ellie Brock's quadrant definitions that add "intuitive" and "methodological" for a second axis. I relate heavily to her definition of "intuitive planner", as someone who is good at Feeling Out the rhythm of a story as long as i have my waymarkers to guide me (i call the messy stage my "spaghetti wall" 😂) thanks for the videos, hope you're doing well!

Ay ay ay! I'm also in the pre-drafting phase of a new adult fantasy WIP. I've been in revision mode for several months so it feels good (but weird!) to be at the very beginning of a project with a blank canvas before me. But I'm excited to dive into an adult project. As fun as my middle grade book has been to write, adult fantasy has a special place in my heart and my writing style lends itself to a more "mature" audience. Fingers crossed that outlining goes smoothly and beautifully for both of us.

I feel you! I really enjoy writing adult projects, it’s just how most of my ideas seem to form these days :) but I LOVE reading middle grade, even though I’ve a tough time writing it 😭

It was really fun and interesting to watch your process of developing your new WIP. My process of brainstorming and plotting is very messy, too. xD I'm a pantser trying to be a plotter/planner because I think plotting my novels more thoroughly will help me actually finish writing my WIPs. I have several Pages documents, a Google doc, a Notion page and a notebook with random notes for my current WIP and sometimes it feels all over the place. But I think I have a good plan for writing the third draft of my novel. I use my notebook to brain dump and then have two pages documents for the world building and plot. One has a spreadsheet where I outlined the chapters in a few bullet points and the PoVs and in the second doc I plot the chapters more in detail, I write roughly 1k-1,5k per chapter and plan on breaking them down into scenes too but then in bullet points again (it's a lot of work). I finally am at a stage where the outlining feels like drafting and I love discovery writing, so this is great. But every time I run into a plot hole or any kind of problem I have to remind myself that this is just an outlining and not the actual third draft because it feels quite devastating when you write a lot and then notice you made a mistake and have either to delete and rewrite everything or at least edit a lot. So when that happens with my outline I can remind myself that this is just that, the outline, nothing is set in stone, I just add another note for myself for when I actually write the draft and I'm good to go. ^^

interesting! that’s really thorough! I definitely relate to the feeling of getting to the point where “outlining feels like drafting” :) thats one of the funnest parts for me.

I love the idea of filling out comps and blurbs early on- which I’ve never done but might for my next outline! (also I really like your editing style :))

@@jabarhenv5933 I was using Google docs here. I prefer keeping my initial notes/brainstorming in google drive, but when I start drafting the actual manuscript, I use scrivener :)
so, i finished writing another book 📖 writing vlog
