Terima kesih, bangs. Good sharing. Agree with your reactions. Two things - many of the older riders didn't have that kind of training that the new riding lessons give. They lived in an SG where it isn't so crowded. 2ndly, a lot of J plates probably got their license from tea sessions. They actually don't read situations well one.

I’d beg to differ about the J plates, i grew up in both sg and jb and learnt how to ride a bike when i was in p3 back in jb then went to cdc to get my class 3, 2b, 2a, 2etc. The problem is they’re so used to the “no rules” law but actually if you ride/drive there often, they’re quite courteous road users. The chances of you riding there and getting into an accident is lesser compared to SG as most drivers dont even know how to ride a bike, yet alone a bicycle.
@Ozymandias_SofaBear7 ай бұрын
@user-pv7ef1ll4u Oh, I don't mean to insult. Merely an observation. Try to be objective, without taking offense. Let's facts be facts. Look at the video, almost all these accidents is during lanesplitting. J plates lanesplit from the moment they get on the bike to the time they get off. That's fact. Whether they are nice people or not, is besides the point.

In the video at 2:10, you may noticed that the car that move off his line of travel to change lane is still within its lane when the bike hit him. Bikers doing lane splitting while overtaking are encroaching into the other road users' lane. Now, cars are equipped with lane assistance system and the car will travel within the lane automatically with self adjustment to the left and right within the lane. Such vehicles will close up the lane that lane splitting bikers are using.

Also was there any confirmation on how cars are not suppose to swerve when they emergency brake? That would helpful knowledge to know. I did try looking up highway code but couldn't find anything relevant to it. My best guess is, it probably depends on each scenario.

Most common accident, filter lane, alot motorists look at blind spots, assuming front vehicle is moving, then bang from the back. My practice,just look infront and wait until the front vehicle move, then I check my blind spot.

However when it comes to actual riding,such things do happen and it’s disheartening. If I may, would like to suggest a topic for future discussion - lane splitting. this is such a good video...there are a lot of sg drivers and riders who just have poor situational awareness... ego issues aside. so many of many of these incidents are avoidable if motorists are just more aware. especially the yellow box ones... drivers / riders alike rush across the yellow box and also the discretionary right turns... we were all taught the 'inch forward bit by bit' to check for clear traffic before proceeding , yet these keep happening.. thanks to these type of incidents, the discretionary right turn is going to be a thing of the past. adds more time but safety is more important.

it is very common that even with the car's signal light blinking, riders will keep zooming pass the car without due safety consideration. I had experience after turning on my signal to change lane, I had waited for more that 30 seconds until there is no more lane splitting + overtaking riders though the next lane was clear all the time. There were like 20 bikers overtaking me at high speed even my signal light was blinking for a long time. These bikers would have seen my signal blinking at a distance of at least 100m from my car.

In Europe the "yellow boxes" are replaced bit by bit by round-abouts. GB is the leading country with roundabouts. SG seems to sleep here. I became also a fan of roundabouts as on my workway a big traffic light junction was redesigned as a roundabout and since then is more efficient and safer.

Good to know your view on lane splitting and overtaking. In my opinion, they are different. Currently, many riders do both at the same time and that is dangerous. Overtaking is a dangerous event and it needs lots of consideration before doing so. But overtaking every few seconds is an action that is dangerous and waiting for an accident to happen. What is your view?

Looking far ahead is not sufficient if a rider kept overtaking. The rider may look far ahead but cars that are near (depending on your speed) to him, to the driver, the rider is not near to him as the driver does not know the rider's speed, may just move to one side that closes up the rider's line of travel resulting in the rider hitting the car, though the car may still be within its original lane. This is very common. Looking far ahead does not work for lane splitting+overtaking type of riding behaviour.

One advice from me. Never ever ride behind a vehicle that you can't see in front of. Peak hour if got rider behind you very close. Means you slow. Must give way. Slow rider in front can cause looooong bike queue behind Pedestrian crossing during red man.... Court say "You bang pedestrian, is your fault as driver/rider"
@ALBERTHAN1237 ай бұрын
Actually my thought is a simple one... if motorcycle is lane splitting, means already sala... so onus should be on rider to be able to stop in time, anticipate sudden lane change by car, etc.... Pls don misunderstand me. i'm both a rider and driver. But if I'm lane splitting, onus is more on me than the driver... As a driver, I will always look out for riders because I do understand them... but oftentimes the rider will already be in my blindspot so its tougher to see.
