@greengrassofhome Жыл бұрын
The video has some grains of truth but, for the most part, realising you are old is much subtler than this. You start noticing that people with important positions in society (maybe even your boss) are younger than you, you do not recognise any of the pop music on the radio, there is some lingo you don't seem to know, weight seems harder to shake off, you look at old photos and realise how much fresher your face used to look, and so on. Most heart breakingly, some people you once loved and grew up with pass away. Getting older is a gift but it also can suck really bad. My suggestion is to grab the moments you are given and make the best of them. Hold on to the one you love for dear life, marry and have children, because the ones you love are the key to happiness in older years. If all you have is loneliness and memories of how better things used to be, getting older is going to be pretty miserable.

'Old is better'... I feel that Old is simply something that we have no choice but to accept. I'm in my 30s now and noticing the gradual loss of my physical peak and natural enthusiasm/eagerness, and I don't think it's better. The one good thing about getting older is that you start to care less what others think of you, which is awesome. But other than that it is a gradual decline. If a cure for aging came out tomorrow, I'm sure most people would queue up for it.
@mantasisganaitis22813 жыл бұрын

@@mantasisganaitis2281 Well done and keep it up. My point was that for many people, peak fitness and enthusiasm start to wane with age. We can fight it and slow it down, and we should do so, but all in all it represents a decline. Since there is no cure for aging, we have to embrace it gracefully and be positive, but that doesn't mean older is better. It means we don't have a choice. Like I said, if there was a cure to counter the effects of aging, most of us would jump on it.

The "1900s" line is so accurate. Nobody in the actual 20th century called it "the 1900s". When I told my 14 year old nephew about me being a kid in the 90s, he asked me about "the 1900s"....I was like wow. It floored me that kids born after 2000 look at the whole 20th century as "the 1900s", everything is the same, 1905, 1955, 1965, 1995,...it's all "the 1900s". I don't remember calling the 19th century "the 1800s", at least I don't remember doing that, but how many times did anyone in the late 20th century or early 21st century talk about the 19th century outside of a history class/documentary anyway. "1900s" used to mean only 1900-1909, but now these kids put a new spin on it, it means the entire 20th century. "Oh you lived in 1992? What was it like seeing Wilbur and Orville fly that plane in Kittyhawk? You said you were alive in the 1900s"

A privilege?! Growing old means you get to watch all your older loved ones grow old, frail & die. After the age of 30, your body breaks down with you still in it - and you can only choose between doing a sh*t ton of uncomfortable, sweaty exercise, healthy, disgusting dieting and doctor's appointments to delay _some_ of the decay. Culture moves away from you, your favorite celebrities fade out of view and technology becomes foreign & confusing to you - yet here you are talking about 'a privilege'. And that middle part between 30 and 60? Work, work, work. Take a vacation to regenerate yourself... for work. And for paying and raising kids. Then, when they finally let you retire, your body and mind are already so degraded by decades of grind that those last few years before you grow too frail to go to the toilet on your own aren't worth living through as well if we are honest. I turn 30 today and I wished I had lived my life in Logan's Run. Better to live 30 good years and die a quick, dignified death on your 30th birthday than to live to 90 and experience the last 60 years of that time in an ever accelerating state of decay.

I didn't know that such culture exists until I saw it on KZbin from mostly Americans in the comments here and there this kind of discrimination towards mature people. I think this is your own fault, you give so much credit to "youth" and put kids on pedestal. On one hand you treat other adults ruthless and "professional ". If a person becomes a singer at 16 , everyone would clap for her and she would find a huge fan base but if someone start at 30 , nothing. If adults could be kinder towards themselves kids couldn't be rude either. There's a very hard line of discrimination between under 20s and above in all your aspects of life.
