Florida angler here, go watch my videos of how many bass I have caught on a green pumpkin chatter bait in our tannic water, BUT with that being said when I'm flipping soft plastics June bug, black and blue are my go too. My PB bass 11.7 was on a green pumpkin jack hammer with a green pumpkin zacko.

So timely. I'm relatively new bass fisherman, and have just had so much luck with green pumpkin. Was out kayak fishing on a rare cloudy day here in the Ozark summertime. I tried junebug trick worms on a Texas rig. That was the number. I was watching other guys with spinners and crank baits striking out while I came in behind and was just pulling out of the lilly pads . It was a great day of fishing.

Most anglers agree with dark for darker conditions, but recently listened to someone who said just the opposite. In fact what he said made some sense to me. He had on a darker shirt, and had lighter shade paint on the wall behind him. When he held up a dark bait it disappeared in front of his dark shirt, but when he moved it out away from his shirt you could see it much better. He said dark colors work great in bright conditions.-, more contrast. Light color bait was hard to see in front of the wall, but when he moved it in front of his darker shirt- once again contrast- you could more easily see the bait. What do you think of his way of looking at it please?

I live on Live on per acre the most populated lake in the state of KY….Tantic murky water we call the mudhole!!! I found this very true!!! Yes Green pumpkin works but seems like black/blues June bugs to even purples solid bucks do stand out and I’ve noticed wheeler even in clear water throwing white a lot and anglers talking some about how alot do not flip it enough..I may be in that category. Being so pressured I’ve picked up on white/grey working flipping timber filled murky home lake heavy pressure that white works ..I like to down size and sometimes even try to throw some very bold colors in murky and tantic water and found it seems to work even in stained water to caught one over 6 in 12 ft visibility the sun going down on junebug…but so true u can’t go to dark especially in murky tantic water and white and white greys /chartreuse’s..bold colors flat out work and blacks even in crank baits I found that to be weird but it cast that sillete…spoons I enjoy but we don’t have big shad thread fin only and some suckers few and decent amount of gizzard shad so mimic the gizzard but around shad spawn it’s so hard to mimic 2inch 2.5in thread thin over then shallow cranks..I’ve found smaller jerkbaits can work but that tantic water it’s tough!!! Thank god we rip rap and timber everywhere 😂

I’ve been fishing to the extremes lately as you suggested in a precious video, and I have noticed a huge difference. I’ve been throwing 13” curly tail and 10” straight tail worms and loading the boat. I also caught my best bass in 3 years, an 8.6. I remember when a 7.5” worm looked big, but now they look like a grub. Lol

Agreed. This was the first year I threw glide baits for bass. And big 5" class underspin swimbaits. I've caught bigger fish this year. It seems about half my rods i'm creeping way up in size. On the other half i'm going down to mop up the fish that don't have the aggression or to get me some dinks when the bite is tougher. Karashi, 4" OG dead ringer or fonesse worm, super fluke jr, neds and baby jigs etc. I didn't throw any big worms this year but I did rig up one for this weekend. It's been fun.

I haven't fished this "tonnic" water a lot, but the few times I have, both salt and fresh, I have found that red colors work the best.. even light green with strong red flake. Also a heavy blue has seemed to work. I used to fish these color waters in North & South Carolina. Great video. You're my favorite for actual, factual and to the point information that I can really use.

I live in Palm Beach county Fl. green pumpkin will work in the black water but only when it's sunny and the middle of the day. Any other time it's black and blue for me. I fish those two colors 95% of the time down here. My pb is 11 lbs 2 oz., so I'm doing something right. I also have caught at least 10 10 pounders. I live in S. Fl. so it's not that hard to catch big bass once you figure out how. When I go for big bass I only catch 1/10 as many as I would just regular bass fishing. Shiners work and punching thick mat with a 2 oz. weight. Shiners get you too many smalls but sometimes a giant, punching thick mat is when I only get big ones. I'm sure there are other ways, those are just my ways.

I live on a 200 acre lake in N. Florida. Extremely clear brown water. Pumkinseed Senkos are a staple and work well. March 13, 2021 I caught and released my PB @ 27.75" bass (no weight available est. 11_12lbs) on a fly lined pumkinseed Senko. I also will use a dark Senko at times however the pumkinseed color gets more consistent action. I will try the June bug color after the next time I'm in town and buy some! 👍

Zoom has some absolutely killer color patterns! That being said Cali 420 is one of my go to summer baits. Why? Because as the water is getting maximum sunlight a lot of the forage that bass feed on the color pigmentation tends to change. I.E. they’re getting a solid nice green color on top while the bottom half stays lighter. Especially black bass.

great info Tyler. I agree 100%. I am a little surprised that you did not say muddy water, because I definitely find that a black blue, or June bug works better than green pumpkin in those conditions. then again, it’s more a scenario where I think green pumpkin does not do as good as the other colors but, can still get bites and muddy water. Especially if you chartreuse the tail. Ha ha Thanks!

I have been leaning towards black and blue or black and silver because its natural but strays away from the greens everyone is throwing. Black and Blue Mini Max Chatterbait with a blue Z-Man Razor ShadZ has been killing it for me lately in lowlight situations on clear water. That same chatterbait with a Berkley PowerBait Power Swimmer 3.8" in Silver Flash or Electric Shad has also been very successful past couple weeks. I throw the powerbait before the sun comes up, doubling down on the vibration from the chatterbait and ribbed paddle tail, and I switch to the ShadZ when the sun gets higher.
