It is the most fun dcs fighting for sure. The modern planes are just dodgings beyond visual range missiles and never seeing your enemy. Also a bit too much fiddling with the computer systems instead of flying as much with your eyes as in cold war. Perfect balance between not too boring simple planes and not too techy

Fun fact. Viggen is really destructive even without weapons. Viggen almost ripped apart a house and destroyed a bus when going supersonic 8 meters above the ground. Really cool video btw. I am pretty new to DCS. I decided on learning the AJS 37 because I want to play as one of my own countries. When I learnt Viggen I will keep learning about JAS 39C Gripen which is a really cool mod which got support from actual Gripen pilots.

Fun fact. They tried to recreate that happening to evaluate making it a possible attack manouver. But they were unable to recreate it reliably. It rarely happened in their tests.

Fun fact a Viggen engineer (now Gripen engineer) told me, the cannon on the viggen was so accurate that they needed to add disturbances to it so it wouldn't shoot through the same hole the first shot created.

@@OCinneide it does but not DCS AJS37. JA37 (aka Jaktviggen) was interceptor variant with Orelikon KCA 30mm cannon (it shot same rounds as GAU8 but with different priming method). So OP refers to that one. Damn i wish we have JA37 or J35 Draken in DCS :c

I trialed and picked up the Viggen in the sale just to do recon and ground strikes on ECW and TBF, and have been deep dive learning it's various systems, so it's great to see you doing some of that. And, I already learned that I don't have to go all the way to the parking area and shut down to RRR, so thanks for that tip! I like it's precision mission profiles with the waypoints, but I am also very glad that you can do some Free Hunting with the Dorito as well! I love the somewhat raw nature that the controls and instruments in the Viggen behave in. Direct prints of the radar's reflectivity (no digital recognition), a small camera for the missile itself, the audible heat signature toning up and down as it picks up on the engines of a frogfoot...or those flares. Whoops! (AFAIK the logic modules and the cockpit interface off to the right are just as raw and have a bit of a steep learning curve)

One of my distant relatives, who I know very well, is, and I only recently found out, the current Sri Lankan air force commander. Once, I remember going for a trip to a museum with him, and looking at the armament of it. He explained all of it, but I was only 7 years old. Now, more than 6 years later, I actually realise how deadly that would've been. Pretty much identical to the Viggen, except the Kfirs were too fast to stay low, so the pilots would be forced to go up to 10k feet, then release there armament, meaning the pilots would have to bee very skilled to hit small AAA guns with dumb bombs. However, the aircraft were constantly given info provided by an MQ-9 reaper much lower and closer to the target. My say on the strategies used for the Viggen is maybe try stay in a formation, and when engaging slow targets, try to have as much distance from them as possible. On the Kfir, as well as F-7s and mig-29s, the pilots would engage from roughly 10kms, and if the enemy flares, try using guns and taking out critical areas, so as to save the rest of your ammo for more deadly targets while still critically damaging/destroying the enemy.

I recently acquired a joystick that I now use for Elite Dangerous and have tried using in DCS. Sadly the amount of keybinds seems to require a full HOTAS with headtracking to be any good.
