Or he is the King's cousin and the Duke of the Borderlands, deep in the Demon King's realm. Hoping for a part 2 now. My suggestion: Ben meeting another player with the same armor, but a glowing upgraded version. Ben asks about how he got his armor. The player explains the quest and how he received it at the birthday party along with a lot of gold. While talking to this player flashbacks happen about a dialogue after saving the NPC. "I think it's time to reti..." SKIP "At my dad's birthd..." SKIP "But before I will..." SKIP "The leatherworker shall..." SKIP "It will be better then ev..." SKIP "Hope you can wai..." SKIP "See you there." STAB!!!

You can actually cheat the game code by "pickpocketing" it into Ralof or Hadvar's inventory, going to either Ulfric (for Ralof) or Tulius (for Hadvar) to complete the quest, then pickpocketing it back at a later time. The downside is you can't turn allegiance to the other side if you wanted to.

Every time I see a new episode of this series, the more I want an actual game based on it. There are so few games on the market where you can do things like this. Quests always have flags that require the rescued NPC to be brought back, or the NPC is tagged as friendly and can't be harmed, so it's impossible to have "fun" like this.

This reminds me of the game Final Fantasy Tactics for the original Playstation. The NPCs in the game leveled up with you (roughly) so as you gained levels new gear would be available in shops ... however NPCs in combat would frequently have significantly better gear then was available for you to buy. This being one of those Final Fantasy's with a jobs system there were thives who could steal people's gear thus giving you an incentive to leave an opponent alive until your thief could strip them naked.

Ah, yes! Good old days of making Ramza use Yell until his turn came after almost every character involved in battle. Then, having the Thief skill set as a secondary while my OP Knight(or two Dragoons w/Knight skills) broke their Speed and Power stats until he stole everything, all done after cornering the poor lads or lasses so they can never move anywhere lol. Didn't learn that was a thing until I'd played for several months back then. Think I had just acquired that brother and sister duo with the light and dark magic exclusive to them before I realized it. Ha.

What an amateur, the father held on to the last piece of the armor set, which would have unlocked 30% rider speed for any mount with the armor set. Just had to do the second part of the questline. Now he have to start a new character to circumvent the softlock and hand the account bound item from that character to the main character. Should only take a week's worth of repuatiton grind to unlock the quest again.

You can either Pickpocket it off of them (Skyrim Logic) Kill them and loot it (Any RPG logic) Earn it as a reward (Not likely 😏)

Kill them and be unable to loot it because the armor is too good to give to a player so by the in-game logic it must've fused with their skin (Some RPGs' logic)

@Lernos Rotosch. Sounds like the Exiled Brotherhood of Steel, in Fallout 3. I killed one once, for the armour and Gatlin laser, only to find that not only was their armour fused to their skin, but their gun was fused to them as well. The funny part was even if I collected the armour, I still would need power armour training to wear it... 😅

Had something like this happen in a d&d game. Some old wizard was having trouble with his cart, easy quest followed, went to collect reward and he had a magic item everyone wanted. Entire group was deciding how best to get away with murderhoboing him but i talked them out of it (barely) and it turned out to be the quest reward from the very beginning. Go figure.
