Another point about this movie, that i personally feel is interesting, is that we never learn exactly what she wants to go to college for. On a surface level it could be seen as a mistake on the writers and a fault in the film. Which could explain it's lower critical rating on sites like Rotten Tomatoes, but it could've been an intentional detail. She doesn't mention what she intends to study in college because she doesn't yet know, she is just doing what society is expecting her to do, whether it be perusing further education or immediately becoming focused on work. Which is why i think the scrapped ending mentioned in the DVD commentary, where she goes and spends a year traveling the world and experiencing new things would've been a better choice, while we wouldn't have gotten as definitive of an ending as the original, i feel like it would've been a much more empowering message.

Y'all are missing the point of the movie. Our constant pursuit of good grades, which in and of itself is a result of the constant pursuit of more that our society has normalized, will likely be her downfall. Despite not being good at school, she's being pushed to go to college, where she will undoubtedly struggle with coursework she's ill-suited for while racking up thousands in student debt, because society at large has pushed the notion that college is the only way to succeed in life. If she'd gone to a trade school, or even just gotten a job out of high school, would that be so bad? Zach Star's conversation revolves around solving the problem of how this young blonde will get into college or start a business, but that very line of thinking has doomed many aspiring young adults who were never given the chance to explore alternatives
@ancientdarkmagic14093 жыл бұрын
Yeah I get you. They should definitely prepare highschoolers on Import skills they must know at least to live a Stable life. Like how to do your taxes, how to make a budget and stick with it. Definitely throwing this idea of you need college to be successful is pretty damaging.

The real question, is why does she need school in the first place? She should be getting married and starting a family. She can go to college when she's middle aged. She can't start a family then though.

Hey laugh it up but I actually loved the plot, mostly because they avoid classic porn movie stuff (which would be captain having sex with his female first mate) but no, he always sees her as professional and competent officer and remains totally oblivious to her being... sexually liberated while she treats him with kindness trying her best to always help him advance. This is one movie where if you would actually make it a non-porn movie...it would still work!
