Oh my God all of her videos are so spot on. Some of these are DIRECT quotes. "We're in the middle of..." and being shocked after treating an employee like crap for years that the person has decided not to take it anymore. Despite being very aware they were treating the employee like crap.

Very good. I resigned from a job 40 years ago. I had a terrific boss(Ernie) but, the commute was too far. I told Ernie first thing in the morning. He called his wife and later that morning announced that he was retiring. After lunch, his boss Jack announced that "since Rick and Ernie are leaving, I'm retiring too". Three levels of engineers were gone in one felled swoop.

@@janedoe5877 I left because the commute was too long and I was falling asleep at the wheel on the ride home. I'd been offered a job much closer to home. Jack and Ernie were in their 60s and had been eligible for retirement. Ernie's wife was ill and it turned out that Jack had cancer. I just triggered the decisions that they made. Good Luck, Rick

@@charles8601 Yeah, I think most American states have at-will employment, so any notice period at all is a courtesy, not a requirement.

@charles8061 Employment contracts are standard throughout most of the developed world. The USA is a notable exception. In England, for example, breaching an employment contract is course for seeking compensation for damages through the courts, most likely the Employment Tribunal.

We use to honor notices, but that was back when the companies honored giving notices. Once giving no notice that a person was being laid off became the normal way companies did business, then many employees started questioning why we were giving companies the courtesy of a notice period when we were leaving.😊

My boss was so upset and took it personally that I had handed in my resignation letter while she was on holiday. She didn’t tell anyone that she was taking any holiday not that I think it should matter. She wouldn’t speak to me again, she wouldn’t do my exit interview, and she refused to come to my leaving drinks. I kid you not it was like a child throwing a tantrum.

I once gave notice to go to a higher paying job and to leave behind a toxic manager. The office RVP offered me a huge raise and a transfer to a different manager. I stayed another 6 years, then our office was closed and moved to TX and I received 52 weeks severence. Those were the days...

The cool thing is that when you hire someone you can immediately read between the lines if someone give them a shitty reference. A lot of things you can tell from the CV/Interview like if they are disorganized or don’t fit in well with others….. but also you can tell if the previous company was awful. A good manager is always open and magnanimous. They usually know that they work for a less desirable company and turnover is simply a cost of doing business if they can’t achieve retention either in compensation or lifestyle. They also often attract workers with less experience and so can pay them less so that’s the flip side of the coin.

I told the new HR guy. "Not even a two week notice tho?" "Look, I don't really know you so I kind of feel like you're a perfect neutral third party. It's why I'm telling you and asking you to pass it on to my supervisor. This isn't the kind of place you quit with a notice." He nodded and said "yeah, I understand. I'll walk you out then."

I like hiring people that have told their previous line managers to f off. Honesty and self respect is more important than people think. A bad reference is the best first impression.

Wow I never thought of it like this. I feel nervous about the whole topic of references because of exactly this. I start daydreaming about how my new employer will find out about that f off moment 😂 What kinda business are you in or what kinda people do you hire? I'm wondering if it's an industry thing to be uptight about references 😂

Why? If things do not work out, the other party has at least some time for preparation. Of, course, I live in Germany, where notice periods are for both sides by law. Just staying home without waiting for the notice period is not a good idea here, at least if you have a qualified job.

I've tried to resign a few times. 35 yars later, and I keep getting sucked back in. Even retiring only helped a little. Every time I quit, they throw just enough more money at me to keep me coming back.

When places fire you they don't give you a notice. Why do they think you should give them a minimum of 2 weeks notice. (USA here, I know its different in other places)
@jasonb7394

Why would an employer request your resignation? They want you gone but they don’t actually have a legitimate reason to fire you? They just treat you poorly and are tired of hearing it from you?
@JivanPal
@JivanPal 2 ай бұрын
They're playing the game of wanting you gone, but not wanting to pay you severance, which is usually only required if you're fired, not if you voluntarily quit. The general idea is that by making the work environment hellish for you without crossing legal boundaries, you'll be coaxed into quitting, and that the period of time over which this coaxing happens will cost them less than the severance.

It takes 2 months into resigning after you left, 2 MONTHS, to amazingly figure out you were treated BADLY, like plantation help, and you had actually performed many " part the red sea" miracles, and they never once said, " Thanks. ". Best wishes. Did I mention they were rude ? Sometimes they were so weird to you, that you couldn't believe it, your brain went sideways, and literally couldn't remember to speak, but thought, " WOW ! ! ! ".
