We just reached a major milestone at the company I work at. $1B in annual sales. We got a pizza party. Yay.

Yeah well, if 1billion is only 300 bucks more than last year...?😅 yiu didnxt quadruple the sales, did you? And was it really your effort or did competitors just cesse to exist, forcing people to buy from you. I mean, as a manager, I gave myself a bonus but realistically, I can't see the direct connection between your team's efforts and our sales. So stfu and eat your pizza 😅

Exactly. Managers and higher ups are trained on how to give low-cost recognition, and they’re often told the lie that workers JUST want to feel appreciated in the job. What they’re not told is these workers feel appreciated when they’re paid and rated fairly for their job. They can buy their own pizza, and they don’t want to clutter their desk or home with trophies and plaques.

We get a potluck dinner 😂😂😂, I never attend and say at loud I cannot afford to feed myself let alone a whole team of people. I’m told I need to be more positive. Hard to be positive when in a constant state of hanrgy.

At my job we had remodeled and had a new parking lot that had a concrete retaining wall. Our grounds keeper had one of his guys face it with flagstone we had uncovered during remodeling. Huge job guy did in “spare” time. When it was done this guy doing stonemason work for $10/hour got a plaque put on the wall acknowledging his work 🙄 I wanted him to be paid a bonus 🤬

I heard of a company that asked employees to take on the task of doing TEAM BUILDING planning without any money for a budget! Ppl who stepped up and did the job were rewarded with a “ GREAT JOB THANKS” and nothing more…… AND JUST RECENTLY the same company treated the very hard working employees ( who completed task ahead of schedule and made profits for the company)to a party of fried chicken BUT THE company collected money from anyone attending to buy the chicken and the company ( wait for it) paid for drinks and fries! Company was in the secret process of downsizing and eliminating jobs as it was announced within that time frame! Company gives you A JOB! They are not your friends or your family. Please be professional but keep that fact in mind when feeling guilty for jumping ship BOOM

@@russ254 in our state starting teacher pay is $38,000. And teachers are required to have a masters degree. $38, 000 for a masters degree (or $45, 600 if teachers worked July and August) is not 40% more than other jobs that require a masters.

Last Voice of the Employee survey we did, the only thing HR were prepared to talk about was how much the percentage of respondents had gone up. That was the high point. What did all these people tell you? “Mumble mumble results will be talked about in a future call mumble mumble”. That was LAST YEAR…

I worked for a short time at an awful software company in brighton. The boss was a horrendous bully and people used to work long hours during the week and often come in on Saturday mornings to do some more. They got pizza.

Shout out. Lol. What they did at ours is they had them parade to the stage with stupid eye of the tiger music and a slogan that I believe was chosen by roll of dice. "Next we have Peter Parker, the web worker... aaand next is Susy Lazy, who is not lazy at all" And then they all stood on the stage. That was fun

Many times at the company i worked for when they would throw these stupid pizza parties, by the time 99% of us were able to get away from the desk the pizza was entirely GONE and I would walk by a managers desk and see plates piled high and it was ALWAYS the manager who yelled at people and just kicked their feet up until the higher ups came down.

"The reward for hard work is more hard work". What worked for me. I think Terry Pratchett in "Going Postal" summed it up with (I'm going from memory here) "I've found that giving a task to an already very busy person is the best way to get the task done".

I'm sure its a favorite. When business is going really well they don't hire extra help. They force people to work mandatory overtime. When business slows they start forcing people to take unpaid days off.

Yep. Executives get bonuses and trips. Workers get shout outs and asked to volunteer to do extra work! We have an employee appreciation week coming up that has such no cost events such as bingo, trivia (one year it was trivia on leader hobbies), scavenger hunt, baby photo contest (aka popularity contest) all during working hours where everyone is way behind and has no time to do any of it.

Got a “good job” recognition my first year at one company, and you know what my “reward” was? A pouch and the WORST raise I’ve ever seen in my life. I hadn’t even taken a sick day and kept cleaning up after everyone’s mess, and yet THAT was how the company decided to acknowledge the work I did for them.

Where I work people with 35+ years of service retire, and they get a pizza party and a cheap Hallmark greeting card. Limit 2 slices per person. No outside lunch, no retirement gift, no speech from senior management, no watch. Just "goodbye". This lady has nailed corporate culture. Sad.

This is one of the reasons why the only “corporation” that workers of ALL ranks should be loyal to is “You, Inc.”. Managers and higher-ups are taught how to give low-cost recognition because they’re told the lie that the employees JUST want recognition and appreciation. Employees feel recognized and appreciated with a fair wage to what they do, NOT from trophies or free food.

Love this lady's content, but have to point out that mere recognition by your boss and colleagues is important and worthwhile. Thats part of treating each other well and is often neglected, probably by people the exact who discount its worth. You can then use this to negotiate a raise. But yeah, of course when you have a fake friend for a boss everything they do is dishonest.

The merchandise with company logo etched on it somewhere. 😢 I actually wouldn't mind a windbreaker, hoodie, or polo shirt if it didn't include a damn image of the business with it. They just want to turn you into a walking billboard, spreading their company wordmark around town. I don't even like wearing their clothes while doing yard work, fearing the neighbors will notice. Lol

It's remarkable the lengths that managers go to just to avoid doing the one thing which will stop high staff turn over. Had a boss that called in one "specialist team" to look at the problem. Then a second. Then finally a third. The first two both said "pay your staff more money". The third said some bs about redecorating the staff break rooms. I wonder how much money the company wasted so that they could avoid paying their staff more money.

The mind of those managers goes like this: pay a thousand bucks now is better than pay 1 dollar for 3 years (which a pay raise will result in. You have to pay the raise every month/week and usually can't take it back anymore).

Nothing wrong with a little public recognition of hard work. The previous company I worked for did shoutouts for teams that did really well. Current company even does this for individual employees. But yeah, that recognition does come with a bonus. Even a small bonus, couple 100 €, will go a long way towards making that recognition sincere, and it’s always appreciated. Just don’t make it a meaningless amount. And never ever ever make it a gift card. Yes, a bonus is taxable so do the damn paperwork and pay the damn tax. Your company should be set up to issue bonuses as a matter of normal procedure. Recently, our entire department got a small token of appreciation: everyone got the day between a national holiday and the weekend off, paid. A small token that goes a long way.

The pizza, the Townhall 'shout-outs' the plaques (hand written on little logo faced cardstock tiles) when they have 50" led screens posted every twenty feet along all the walls running company commercials 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and little huddle cubicles all over the place that 90% of the employees can't use due to the nature of their job so these expensive little spaces are almost always empty....tell me how you really don't give a damn about your employees without telling me how you really don't give a damn about your employees.

If the environment isn’t healthy, none of the above will matter…….oh except a pay raise. What really needs to be addressed/looked into, is why people are leaving a supposed good company to begin with. Healthy and good (for certain minds) are keywords that attract and keep productive people around. Personally, I think the average mind focuses on the wrong thing/s when it comes to what should be happening in the work place!!! As most are looking for someone to control, manipulate, bully, “figure out”. All of the above just stupid shit that inevitably builds disgust, while revealing what certain individuals are really “good” at.

Plastic vehicle license plate holder with the company name on it. The MOST inexpensive "gift" guarenteed to put a target on your car if used...Great! Free advertising! What could be better? The hospital where I worked did that one year. Pizza party for when staff is screaming busy with no time for a break instead of extra nurses to help...

We got a webcam cover slider for christmas once. The car merch is crazy. Had that too. I was like "you want me to put this on my car? Our company cars have been egg bombed, tyre sliced and set on fire in the past. No way I'm displaying this logo anywhere on my own private stuff"

Yeah, pizza party for people who break their back working to earn your company more money? How about a challenge coin with the company logo? Take them out to a meal? I mean after all they are just employees and of no consequence. It’s their job to make you more money. Right. Not like they have a life outside work.
