Effortless Swimming

Күн бұрын

This swimmer can swim at 1:50/100m pace but quickly drops to 2:15/100m pace. We look at his breathing, kick and catch and how he can hold 1:50 for longer and also swim faster in the next 3-6 months.

Love these videos. I'm a coach and I learn a lot through these videos for my own stroke, and sometimes the tips make their way to my students!

If I may, I'm also noticing he's letting water "slip". He catches water, and he's letting it go by wiggling his hand (rotating at the wrist). That's something that my swimmers also do especially when tired, and it reduces speed. Slow strokes with hand paddles may help alleviate this tendency. By the way, love your videos.

+Traveller I am looking for some advice on suitable paddles and most appropriate size for an averaged size ten year old boy training in a squad about to introduce paddles. He has a good strong freestyle stroke, but needs to increase his stroke rate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same pace and same problems.. I've been watching effortless swimming videos for about two or three weeks and already have made some adjustments with about 5 seconds off per 100 with less effort (I am not nearly as wore out ☺) Lots more to be made but on my way there. Thank you for these videos!!!

This swimmer may have many points to improve on but nonetheless he has excellent timing and he is a strong swimmer so he will be very fast with those corrections you are proposing. He surely has the feet and ankles of an experienced runner. Pointing your feet when swimming is an extremely hard thing to do for a runner. I know that because I run a lot and have the same problem kicking in the water. The first time I used a board for kicking I was moving backward which was very depressing. 👍👍👍

😁😁😁 so funny! Yes shoulders mobility and relatively sinking legs are other standard problems runners have. On the bright side we have usually a good cardio and strong muscles and that’s probably what keeps us moving fairly quickly given our pour swimming technic. Swimming is such a nice way to do an active recovery from running . On that basis it is worthy to do it and it is really worthwhile to improve your technic for performance improvement which may come handy if you swim in shark infested waters like during triathlons. 😁😁Have fun!

This is basically me swimming :O Same pace, same problems. I think the dropping tighs might be caused by tight hip flexors. Unfortunately it's not just 'bring up your legs", it' more about: do lots and lots of stretching, to loosen up those 30plus-years-desk-school-job hip flexors...

It's like watching myslef. Like Marc below is a runner, I was playing basketball and football for 35 years, I ended up with both ACLs torn so 3 years ago I went to the swimming pool for first time in my life. First time I dived, I was shocked to find out that a person that could run 10k in an hour whithout even sweating, needed a pit stop for breath after one lap! Now 3 years later, I'm like that guy 1.50/100 droping quickly to 2:15, ending up doing 1.300m in 30 min.

He may also be getting tired as he is taking 6 strokes between breaths. Half it a won't be as tired and slow down .

One other note, I wonder why you didnt work on the fingertips rising and leading to braking on the non breathing side. Is it that for this swimmer there were "bigger fish to fry" so to speak? Seems like you hit on most everything else I could think of.
