i don't really feel like all female pop stars are particularly good dancers...? like usually they can do some basic choreography but most of the hottest stars rn that I can think of aren't really known for their dancing abilities. Which I don't really mind. In my female pop stars I want good vocals, good songwriting, and a recognizable aesthetic. Everything else is just a cherry on top.

I feel like female dancers are so sexualised in the music industry and are expected to do all this sexual dance moves like little mix and then the female singers like Taylor Swift or Dua Lipa who can’t dance or choose not to do like really sexual dance moves then they get hated and criticised and called “mediocre” or “basic”. Whereas as male singers or boy bands are not hold to the same standard as long they are “just themselves” and have a lot of charisma like one direction then they are required to dance

Just a reminder he didn't have to enlist yet, he had years before he technically had to. Most members of BTS enlisted earlier than they needed to so they could continue with group activities in 2025. I think we, as an audience, should come to the realization that we aren’t that permissive towards pop boy soloists that has a defined, over the top style and personality. Many of them who do has band behind them, like Brendon Urie, Gerard Way and Patrick Stump. Even Dan Reynolds can be included there. I’d include Tyler, The Creator as a pop boy by this definition. And now we have Steve Lacy from the same circuit. And Donald Glover is definitely a pop boy. I think the Nerdcore circuit is an unexplored land for pop stars. Gabriel Brown is the bonafide nerdcore pop boy right now. He should get it. But that means tearing down the wall that is “cringe culture” that’s preventing pop boys from exploring.

i feel like it has to do with cringe culture as well. many iconic ‘pop boys’ had a following of (mainly) teen girls who were enraptured with them. currently teen girls tend to be made fun of for their pop interest. for example, many BTS fans tend to be made fun of for their biases or their engagement in the fanbase. this in return has caused many teens to hide being a fan or decidedly stop stanning an artist altogether.

In Latin America we've also had big pop stars that had been charting and been mainstream for decades now!! I guess you could say they make latin pop, and obviously they switch to other genres as well (latin ones mainly, but also collaborating with american artists for example). I think Chayanne, Ricky Martin, also Luis Fonsi or some new artists like maybe Camilo??, Sebastian Yatra or that type of artists that dive into urban styles as well, maybe they don't fit the definition exactly but I think they also count. But obviously I agree, there are not enough main pop boys right now!!

There definitely are pop boys but I think why it feels like there aren’t any is because there haven’t been many big hit songs from them within the last 2 years, at least no in comparison to the hits we’re getting from the girls this year.
