As far as the universes, I do believe they were supposed to be separated to give the writers freedom, but I think over time R* decided to combine them and make them linear. Also I think it'd be funny and a full circle moment if Michael shows up in GTA VI dressed as Tommy Versetti as I remember when screenshots of Michael were revealed for GTA V, a lot of people assumed he was Tommy

I can imagine that the reason he does it is because it was Solomon’s last great idea for a production that he never got to see through, the dramatization of Tommy Vercetti’s story. Michael, highly respecting Solomon, decides to make the movie in his honor. Title: The Last Fella. There’d be side missions for you to do where you act as an extra where you have to shoot, maybe deal with some uncooperative talent agencies, help Michael chase after someone seeking to sabotage the movie, etc. Michael could even call Jason or Lucia (depending on who helped him) and thanks them for their help, giving them profits from the movie. Then he’d give a little reference at the end of the call, “By the way, you forget a thousand things everyday, pal, make sure this is one them.”

I’ve always been kind of a fan of gta since I was 8 and got to play gta 5 for the first time at my sisters friends house. I immediately fell in love with the game. Over the years I watched videos of the game and the funny moments compilations from KZbinrs like jacksepticeye and The gaming lemon. I never had a game console because my parents were too religious. Until a month ago I finally got a PlayStation 4 and of course I picked up gta 5 to be the first game that I would play on it. I’m currently 19 and I finally got to play as the three iconic characters and I’m almost done with the story mode and man, it’s been one hell of a ride.

I really wish rockstar would just drop this dumb idea that the 3D cames and HD games are in a different universe because they can't seem to commit to this idea. There are countless references and call backs and at this point the amount of them is way too high for a universe that supposedly doesn't exist in their timeline... Just cancel this separate universe BS and put out a statement that they are all connected. For one thing it is way cooler that way and more satisfying for all players.who grew up playing these games to know their actions actually take place in the current games history and it leaves the door open for even better references and even characters reappearing. I never saw the point of separating the world's and I feel stronger about that the more time goes on.because clearly even rockstar doesn't like this decision

The way I see the universes is simple. Each is an echo of the previous gen. There may be similarities (see grove street and comments on the Families in GTAV) but they aren't linked. It allows the universes to run parallel to each other but not directly lead into each other. Think of it like red and white laundry. There is some bleed, but the reds remain reds and the whites sort of become extremely light pink.
