I do have some additional observations on this topic. The young maiden depicted on the coffins in the secret room is the same one as the one depicted at the statue standing in the same room. Both wear a dress with the same pattern on the skirt and both hold the book. It just so happens that the same statues are present in the towers at the Three Sisters' location. It just so happens that at the Moonlight Altar there are also three small chapels... each one with the same statue inside. This location is guarded by another red wolf.

At this point it is hard for Elden Ring lore channels to find new takes, and here you are doing a delicious little nibble of a mystery almost no one has weighed in on, and I completely missed the possible significance of the graves in Raya Lucaria. Well done Human and thank you for this dive.

I wonder if that's why radagon gave her the rune of rebirth because he expected his leaving to lead to death and hoped she would be able to save some of her followers, it could even be that her other daughters were attending the school when radagon left and when the academy betrayed the carians they also betrayed the princesses which would probs lead to Rennala trying to revive them using the rune and leaving ranni has the only princess left, probably because she was studying with the Ice witch at the time and not at the academy.

This is a very good observation! I pointed out in my video the Carian Glintstone Staff because I found it odd that those would line the walls when the Carian Study Hall should be where the Carian scholars studied. The presence of these staffs(and Rennala’s) proves, in my mind, that they were in Raya Lucaria and they were more than likely killed by the Cuckoo. Sad conclusion but it’s the most probable. Thanks for watching! 😀

Another great vid. From 5:14 you discuss the phrasing of, “She [Rennala]… established the house of Caria as royalty.” And its implication that all princesses may then follow her. Could it not alternatively be the case that, previous to said establishment, other houses could have been considered royalty by and in that society, and so other princesses came from other houses?
@AHumanJusticar

It’s definitely possible. I just have found any evidence of another great house but I wouldn’t put it past GRR Martin to write about some hidden secret house.

Recently, I was in that room off the church, scratching my head, trying to figure out its lore significance. I really like the idea that its a mausoleum for Carian princesses. If so, it implies the site on which the academy was built was once part of a Carian kingdom. And this implies Rennala didn’t establish the Carian House as royalty; she re-established it. Raya Lucaria, like most legacy dungeons, has distinct chronological strata within its architecture. The church is adjacent to the oldest evidence of habitation in Raya Lucaria, which is found in the area around the water-wheel elevator. This is also where we find the carian knight set. What I’m really interested in though, is the carving on the lid of the sarcophagi. I’ve been cataloguing repeating statues in elden ring and this is the one I call the Reader. She mostly found in Liurnia. There are three versions. The first, and most common, is a young woman holding a book. She can be found in all the sites associated with the carians. The second is an older woman holding a book and we see her around the divine tower bridges and at the top of the carian study hall. The third and most interesting place we find the Reader is on the side of the caskets in those rune graveyards you see all over the lands between. Whoever she is, this figure has an association with death. Concerning the system of lordship and the passage of sovereignty through daughters rather than sons, this is a great topic and would make an excellent subject for a video in its own right. Ranni’s darkmoon ring lays out the system. Basically, marriage to an empyrean makes you a lord. There’s a lot more I’d like to say on this subject but this comment is getting long and there’s an idea I’d like to raise. I’ve never been comfortable with the correlation between Radagon’s treatment of Rennala and the actions of a cuckoo. It doesn’t really fit because, as far as we know, there were no children to displace. However, if we consider Radagon’s treatment of Marika and her children by Godfrey, the appellation of cuckoo seems more appropriate. It is Radagon’s children, rather than Godfrey’s, who end up controlling much of the Lands Between.

I've been calling her the Maiden. I do think there is some correlation between the Maiden, Mother, and Crone to Ranni/Rennala's story and that could be linked to these statues. Radagon does indeed start to look more and more nefarious the deeper I go into this! Thanks so much for watching and commenting (:
@crowstakingoff
@crowstakingoff Жыл бұрын
Yes I was going to comment about the origins of the young scholar statues, which you pretty much covered. Justicar took a very interesting route in noticing how the staffs above the coffins are Carian staffs. The maidens can also be ascertained to be Carian through the presence of the statues in Caria Manor, and a single, smaller depiction of this maiden at the top of a design on the highest floor of the Carian study hall. I started looking for this statue there when I saw a post of someone using the mimic's veil on Ranni's divine tower. They were using this to argue that the maiden the statue is depicting is Ranni.

Amazing video! The Three Sisters region and the names of the various rises has always driven me crazy wondering. Who are the sisters? Did Seluvis' Rise have an original name (maybe Rennala's Rise)? Renna seems to be the snowy crone that was a mentor to Ranni and the physical basis of the doll, but who is she to Ranni to have a rise named after her? An older sister, an aunt, a grandmother? Completely unrelated? Who is Chelona??? Were the princesses daughters of Rennala, or maybe sisters? (GRRM is inconsistent withing the ASOIAF with who gets called prince/princess; younger brother of King Viserys is called Prince Daemon, younger brother of King Joffrey is called Prince Tommen, younger brothers of King Robert seem to almost never be called Prince Stannis or Prince Renly (maybe because their parent wasn't a king?)) There's just so many questions.

Is it possible that Rani had her sisters killed during the night of black knives in order to ensure her own hegemony of power?
@qualiswilliams7403
@qualiswilliams7403 11 ай бұрын
Not likely ruling doesn't seem to be a direct motivation for her. She seems more gravitated towards revolution imo. She seems to want to know about or speak with whoever was controlling marika. I always assumed ranni was out for revenge because the golden order broke her mother, killed her sisters, turned her brother, and made rykard do the unthinkable. Power just doesn't seem like something she cares about

Not to get in the way of a good story but has anyone checked these item descriptions in Japanese? There is some ambiguity regarding singular and plural as several people have noted in reference to the "soulless demigodS" mentioned in the context of the Eclipse. The Dark Moon Greatsword might be worth checking too as Ranni is not queen and "long-standing" implies some degree of repetition unlike "old" which would be valid for the single instance of Rennala's marriage to Radagon. As-is things definitely point to "Caria", be it a single family or a house/clan or even something akin to a nation of Astrologers, having a long-lasting tradition of monarchy with multiple successors to a throne and thus being "princesses" before their ascension.
@AHumanJusticar
@AHumanJusticar Жыл бұрын
I do agree, the translations could be mistakenly giving an impression that might not be totally accurate to it's original meaning. I'm a very literal person so I do tend to take things at face value so it definitely can be possible that the "House of Caria" was more of a clan than a single line of monarchy the way we know of it in the west.

I dont think they’re the juvenile scholars bc i think there were 3 daughters, 3 rises behind Caria Manor, one of which being Ranni. I dont think it makes sense for her to have had 10-20 children. I think they’re more like adopted children of Rennala. They were rebirthed THROUGH her and thus became a part of her. I do think the other sisters are dead or we would at least be informed on their existence it doesn’t make sense for living princesses of the second most powerful royal family in the lands to have 2 princesses that are assumed to be alive but not even mentioned that they’re missing or on a mission or something of that matter. The same way the ONLY people to mention Ranni are those that know shes still alive. I think that’s simply how it works in the land between. Death itself is taboo in the land between so i think just mentioning death or those who have died is also taboo. Like how many people who have died(and not come back like the tarnished) has been mentioned? Pretty much the only one i can think of is Godwyn bc he’s half dead and the first to die and the god of death

“An honor said to have once been awarded to Carian knights who served as direct retainers to the *kingdom's princesses*. Now there is only one princess: Ranni, daughter of Rennala.” I always presumed the word “kingdom” is meant to represent the Houses of the Erdtree as well as the Caria royalty since we know Radagon unified them after the Liurnian Wars. It could be an explanation as to why the Miquellan Straight Sword seems to have been fashioned after the Carian Sword, as well as be a potential clue to the identity of the “Three Sisters”, the Empyreans, Ranni, Miquella, and Malenia.
@AHumanJusticar
@AHumanJusticar Жыл бұрын
This definitely a possibility! The only reason why I didn't mention this connection in the video was because neither Malenia nor Miquella are titled as 'prince/princess. I wrote about this in my original script but I scrapped it for time. I'm curious about the connection between Miquella and the influence the Carian's had; I do hope the DLC will have some juicy new artifacts that reveal more!

@@AHumanJusticar there’s traces of Miquella’s influence in many places such as the implications on the Rune of the Unborn and its similarity to Malenia’s that you pointed out in your last video, the juveniles never growing past childhood which was Miquella’s curse, the Icerind Hatchet, etc. My latest web of intrigue has been the “Greathood” that you find on the Mountaintops. Have you looked into that item at all?

@@puzzleheaded6195 I have, when I was researching for my last video I looked into the Stargazers Ruins and was curious about that. I wonder if the mention of its size has anything to do with the giant statues in Nox/Nokstella?
@puzzleheaded6195
@puzzleheaded6195 Жыл бұрын
@@AHumanJusticar It could very well be. It’s a very peculiar item and I have some thoughts. Greathood - “Hood far larger than the head it is meant to cover. A burial shroud of sorts for those who discover, at long last, the truth they sought. "Yes, surely this is the moon that young Rennala gazed upon." Rennala’s Full Moon - “Queen Rennala encountered this enchanting moon when she was young, and later, it would bewitch the academy.” Eclipse Shotel - “In Sol, the sight of an eclipse inspires a dreadful awe, preventing an onlooker from averting his gaze.” I think the core of my sense is the “encounter” would strongly indicate independent existence. I find it curious that Rennala would encounter the moon to bewitch the academy and not become bewitched herself, especially seeing how infatuated she is with the Amber egg. It would be very strange to use it when someone creates something that is then just a manifestation of one’s own power. I’m on the idea that these three item descriptions could be linked. For the longest time I couldn’t make sense of the comically large Greathood item but the text, “Hood far larger than the head is meant to cover” creates a theme that’s associated with a couple more items, such as the Snowy Crone Hat, Glinstone Crowns, Preceptor Hats, etc. There is one demigod who fits the bill, Miquella, judging from his statues that portray his head too large for his body which is a trait that has to do with infants. The Kanji for “truth” in the Greathood is the same used for the Formless Mother who Mogh happens to be communing through Miquella underground with his arena found erupted in flames similar to the Erdtree the moment we enter, and even one of his disciples under Leyndell wearing that hood. I’m starting to think the Full Moon, Black/Dark Moon(Solar Eclipse), and Blood Star(Lunar Eclipse) are all just phases of the eclipse, making sense of the juveniles singing about “mother’s umbra” and why Miquella is associated with both the cold and blood. The cold because for some reason it only snows near Miquella’s husk in all of the Haligtree and blood is needed to satiate his cocoon, judging from the Lord of Blood’s Exultation. The timeline makes things tricky but the Full Moon Crossbow which depicts an eclipse, could be a clue that Miquella might’ve had a hand in the union between Radagon and Rennala. I could be reaching here a bit but it feels like it could all be connected. There way too many little coincidences that connect Miquella to the bigger picture somehow.

Okey i think i got it. Radagon gave Rennala the Ember Egg so that she could Bring Ranni Back to live, because she was the best available Empyrean at that Time. That means around that Time both Godwyn and Ranni died. After Radagon saw that the Rebirth is not working, he left Rennala and gave Birth to 2 New Empyreans but both were Afflicted
