I’ve actually been catching more queens this summer. A colony by my house is approaching their third week of nuptial flights and there have been alates still flying and wandering around in my backyard.

It's climate change, Things change in the environment so therefore ants are less predictable.. Keep up the good work Get out there and catch ants instead of living in fear and ignorance. For instance last year i caught 4 queens late in the year because we were experiencing a drought when i found them *LATE IN FALL* i saw a few colonies Pulling out their female alates so i snagged some. Took a year to figure out it was a behavior to save food for the winter and since there was no rain *Not due to global warming * due to the drought they didn't have nuptial flights only 1 of the 4 was fertile but died from a mold outbreak.

Last winter was the coldest in the UK for a few years. I know this because I keep motor vehicles outdoors, I had to scrape ice off windows often, also the blossom on trees came later this year.

Interesting video! I thought I had missed the flights this year, as I normally have caught any queens we wanted by mid July. The first flight I saw was only 3 days ago. 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜

Great video, in NYC rn more than half of the common species you see in parks, streets, etc. are invasive

I'm more curious about the fact that I found 15 wingless queens in Greece on 8/10/2021 and NONE of them was fertile. Sadge

Catching flights has a lot to do with luck though. However some species still had massive flights....some didn't.
