That IRA joke was so underrated
@solomonshv7 жыл бұрын
IRA is an acronym for several things. the host said the person should open an individual retirement account (IRA). the guy playing connor said he was in the Irish Republican army (IRA) since the protestants moved in. the Irish Republican Army was a militia formed to fight British control of Ireland. and the British are protestants. i hope that makes sense.
@krombopulos_michael7 жыл бұрын
I understood it, it just didn't make much sense. There's no protestants in Conor's neighbourhood.
@solomonshv7 жыл бұрын
@Krombopulos Michael - no one gives a shit about his neighborhood. that's not what the joke was about.
@solomonshv7 жыл бұрын
@OceanBlue, yea, we know that not ALL British are protestants, but the Church of England is. therefor when they said "protestants", they implied Britain. there is no reason to get technical about it. it was SNL's sly joke implying the British invasion of Ireland. as for the IRA being terrorists, says who? the IRA was a response to Britain's oppression of Ireland. one glaring example of that was the British seizure of Ireland's food during the Great Famine, causing more than one million people to die from starvation. if anything, it was the British who were the terrorists. I'm sure that if Hitler would have won WWII, the history books would have labeled the Jews and USA as the bad guys.
@MadDogOfist7 жыл бұрын
Or, as the British were telling the Americans for years, the IRA were terrorists who killed innocent British civilians (including a bombing aimed at my dad, which was bizarre, given that he had absolutely nothing to do with Ireland and had no power and WTF?). But, or course, in America you kept funding them believing them to be a 'militia'. In the end, both Loyalist and Republican sides mostly put their weapons down and decided to just get on with living. In America, after 9/11, of course, terrorism was bad. And Americans loved to tell me that, as a Brit, I've never had to face a terrorist threat before. Yeah: I'd only seen my own father's name on an IRA kill list. Also: Take it from me: the British are not Protestants - the Protestants in question are loyalist Irish. The fact is that a majority of Irish in Northern Ireland identify as loyalist - and that's important to understand as well - they are IRISH. This joke is pretty dark - I felt they didn't really know enough about the subject to make it work. For instance, McGregor's from Dublin, in the Republic, not even from Northern Ireland. So that's why it didn't work. THe viewers didn't get it, and the writers didn't know enough to make it make sense to those in the know. Ah, well, I actually really liked this sketch, though, so who cares?

Too bad he is either an extra or in a bad movie. You can tell at times that he could be a good actor if given the chance. He really needs a better agent.

Gronk is actually one of the smartest people with money in the NFL. He lived on only what he made in endorsements and invested all of his contract money.
@nicolasneal204 Жыл бұрын
I adamantly refuse to believe this I will believe that Gronk's parents and agent worked together and found a good trusted investment broker so that he won't run out of money and can live a good life while they also thrive off him as well

@@robbie131if I was retired and famous I’d do exactly what gronk is doing making commercials. You don’t need to write anything, you just need to read the script and listen to the director and they’ll give you like $5k-12k for like 3-4 hours of your time on a weekday

Gronk don't belong on this, I heard he saved every cent from his contract and only spends his endorsement money. That would make him worth at least 40 million..
@allieschwarz80237 жыл бұрын
I read about that. It's smart thinking on his part. So far, he's been paid a total of 16.3 million from his contact, before taxes (which are substantial: Massachusetts taxes are high). He would have earned more if he hadn't been injured in 2015, and badly injured in 2016 (requiring surgery). Gronk was given a Super Bowl ring in February without setting foot on the field. It's unclear at this time whether he'll play in the upcoming season.
