Watching your normal small town lives is infinitely more interesting & fulfilling than watching any established celebrity or those plastic tiktokers who only think about life in the short term. Y'all are amazing people. Gimme salt of the earth over rich & famous any day! I wish you all wellness, happiness & to always have just enough. There's no point in overexerting or overextending to chase more money or more fame than you actually need only to lose what made you decent people in the first place. Keep it real Fab Rats! On to the next 100k subscribers!

I really like the video, took me back to those years when my late Dad was teaching me stuff around the house. I still have the 1971 Chevrolet C-10 pickup that he gave me for my high school graduation gift, I bought some parts for it but still have some ways to go but I'm gonna get it running again. I buy tool after tool like my Dad even though I have tools but I get the ones I don't have. Thanks to Paul, his wife and family for sharing their life story with us, it was awesome 👍🇺🇸..

What a great tribute to Grandpa Sherm! Much of what I've learned to do, I learned from my dad. He grew up on a farm where there wasn't money to buy new or have things fixed or built. So he learned to be a jack of all trades. Keep all the great content coming! Oh, and I recently wore my Fab Rats shirt while doing a brake job on the wife's van!

So I don't want to be a downer on Mothers Day, but boy did this hit home, right where I live. My Dad was a lot like your Dad, Paul, a heavy equipment mechanic by trade and a guy who could fix/build/create anything by necessity. Born in 27, Navy in WWII. Hot Rodder extraordinaire. He taught me the same skills you have learned from your Dad. He taught me to braze, I did my first water pump R&R on an Oldsmobile Toronado when I was 8. He had broken his hand at work, and I was his hands. It was my uncles car, his brother...who somehow couldn't do more than put gas in the car. He teased me a lot until the day an 8 year old fixed his car for him. I am almost 63. Married for 42 years to my high school sweetheart too. I lost Dad when I was 24. He passed 5 months before his first grandchild arrived. He was 56. I still have that Lincoln Buzz Box, and a PowerMig, and some other nice tools, and I have done my best to teach my now grown sons the lessons he taught me. Seeing you with your Dad...really got to me. I don't mean to lecture, but don't take a single minute for granted, you are Blessed beyond measure to have him there and to see your kids grow up. I can tell you know it, I just had to say it. If the world wants to solve its problems, the same men who built it are around...they teach the values of self reliance, honesty, integrity, and the value of family bonds. In other words, they need to look at your folks and the lives you and Michelle have built, and follow in your footsteps. God Bless you guys. Sorry for the rant.

I never met your Dad, but I can relate. My Dad was born in 27, out in eastern Washington state, and is still with us today. At 16 he was hired by his neighbor to rebuild a combine, had the reputation as a very young man as the best combine operator anywhere around. I inherited his mechanical ability, and ended up an engineer in Silicon Valley without the benefit of any 4 year engineering degree. I build the very first computer disk coater in the very early 1980's, and after 50 years old reinvented myself as an IT and AV consultant. Today, at 67 years old I have all the work that I want, and am very blessed. Thanks be to God for his goodness, and all the blessings that have come my way.

@Arch Stanton...Well said, a really good comment. I lost my Dad over a year ago but he left me and my brother his tools but the one thing that he gave me as my high school graduation gift was his 1971 Chevrolet C-10 pickup truck. I still have it and in the process of restoring it, I bought some parts for it but still have some ways to go but I will do it and get Yesterday's Chevrolet running again 👍🇺🇸..

First due to your wedding picture white tuxedos are gonna make a huge comeback... I think people connect to your channel because you all are genuine. The content you create touches people because it shows life's basics. Family, friends, hard work, the things that matter. Nothing special, the simple things in a complex world that give life meaning, purpose, fulfillment. Things that everyone has the potential to have, do and achieve. You do this with humility and a sense of humor. Just makes it better. This may sound corny but I think its accurate.

It's great how much you learned from your dad, and he supported you teaching and fiddling with stuff. My dad thought me working on cars, and has tried to support me fiddling with stuff but has never understood my wanting to build it instead of buying, but I'm trying to teach my son to explore, create, and learn, so its great to see you let your kids build things, and support them. The reason your channel is growing is because y'all are as real as real gets, and you are just genuinely good folks. It's very apparent and I think it resonates with other real people. I usually learn something everytime I watch - whether it be about off-roading (relatively new Jeep owner here!), mechanic-ing, fabricating, or just presenting a different way of tackling a problem in the shop. Thank you, Paul and Michelle. I'm so glad I found your channel. I hope to road trip out that way with my bride sooner rather than later, and meet y'all and Matt and his crew of crazies!! Thanks for sharing this folks! I live in Alberta, Canada, 3 hours north of Great Falls, MT on a ranch we built from the ground up. I fix all my old equipment myself, learned to mechanic in the Army, and taught myself to weld. I don't have a shop right now but once I do, I've got some ideas of things that need building. I ran across your stuff from watching Matt's episodes on KZbin, and the best part of my week is seeing what you two are up to. I've got friends in Cedar City, and once this Covid stuff blows over (soon we pray), I plan to come down and visit the area again. Who knows, maybe we'll run into each other.

I have watched all your videos and enjoy them, but never commented. This video looked so much like my experience, but mine was in southwest Virginia in the 1950s and 60s. Dad was a farmer and a heavy equipment and farm machinery mechanic. He went to school for that after he got out of the Navy after WW11. I learned to,weld, to drive farm machinery, to repair everything without buying anything, and to never, ever throw anything away, because we would use it somewhere! This brought back so many good memories to this old man. Thank you.

This family is the best representation of America that I have seen in a long time, maybe ever. Hard work, love and respect for your elders, keep an open mind and a fellowship with your neighbor, take care of your family, and fend for yourself. You make me proud to be an American and give me hope for the future of our country. The wierdos on the coasts ( where I live) refer to you as "fly over country" but I refer to you as the essence of America. You are the personification of what has, and continues to make this country great. Enough said.

At the very start, Paul says good stuff about his dad and it brought me to tears. know that he lost his father not long ago. My father taught me a lot over the years from building motors to plowing fields and I know how deep I hurt when he passed . that was 3 years ago and there is not a day that something reminds me of the bond he and I had. Paul I know that's true with you and your Dad your pain will mellow as time passes just remember that he did his best to make you who you are today and all those times working together will stay with you and he will live on in your memories. May he rest in peace.

Well I guess we are true FabRat fans. Watched this video last night and we knew most (if not all) of the answers to the questions. We started watching you when you only had around 40k subscribers. And we have been hooked ever since. Keep those vids coming. Charles & Carrie

Man we have almost the same back ground. I grew up in Tennessee in a small house next to a saw mill and on the other side of the house was a barn. I grew up milking the cows, slopping the pigs, hauling logs, cutting logs, and so on. If we needed it we made it. We grew tobbacco and canned food out of the garden to eat in the winter not like my wife (for fun) I started welding when I was about 8. I was 17 and needed a truck but did not have one so I cut up a 1965 Plymoth put springs from a truck under used wood and made a bed to haul pigs to market and haul feed to the cows. Got and old school bus and made a log truck out of it. Forklift to load logs out of a 1966 Pontiac (fastest forklift you ever saw) I love your channel. Please keep up the great work. It takes me back home.

Love all your history. Fyi the America West Airlines donor motor was from a belt loader (baggage conveyor). I was the 294th employee hired by America West in 1983 in Las Vegas. The airline acquired US Air in the early 2000s and then acquired American Airlines and merged the two carriers. America West was a Phoenix based airline founded in 1982. Glad to see you're still sporting the old logo. Really enjoy your channel and all your awesome fabs.

Grandpa sherm is cool! Hello from China grove North Carolina. “About 50 miles north of Charlotte NC on I-85” I drove over the road for 20yrs and was a prison guard for the state of NC for 20 yrs. My wife was a prison guard and a food service supervisor for 20 yrs. We met at the prison and retired together. She doesn’t watch KZbin but that’s all I watch. Glad I found your channel. I love watching all the fabrication and mechanical work! CHEVROLETS RULE!

You guys are awesome. All those other KZbinrs you mentioned that you like are all the same ones I been watching for years. Started with Derek on VGG and just kept branching out. Found you folks a couple weeks ago and been watching you non-stop since then. Paul might want to consider going on the annual "Power Tour" that Derek, and Cleetus and a lot of others do. They seem to really enjoy it. I grew up with a step-father who could build anything, weld anything, and who cut a "lot" of firewood in his old Dodge Power Wagon. Watching Paul fabricate in his shop brings back a lot of good memories. Keep doing what you do and I'll we'll keep watching you do it.

I can relate to your upbringing of making stuff for yourself out others people's junk. My father was trained as a machinist mate during World War II. His work ethic is what us who have survived thus far, live by. Kudos to your late father and you. What this country was built on!

You know what…I hate getting up early in the morning. But now for some reason on Sunday, Wednesdays, and Fridays I get up bright and early grab my phone and watch you guys. You guys have ruined me! I need to go to Fab Rats anonymous rehab center. I’ve done this before but not quite as early with a couple other KZbin people. But in short time I get bored because they just do the same thing over and over. You guys on the other hand are always doing something different, you keep it fresh all the time. And I really do look forward to the next video from you. Thank you
