If we go back and look at our 2011 victory, we will now can understand the valuable contribution of Dhoni and Gambhir in that victory. That final match also we got stuck after the early wickets of Sehwag, Sachin and then Virat.. but then, it was Gambhir who never came under pressure and restricted his shots and he kept on scoring the runs and secondly Dhoni who being the captain decided to take the charge of situation himself instead of leaving the situation to other teammates. Both gambhir and dhoni ensure that the required run rate remains under control and also ensure that they stay there till the win is confirm. This is the distinguinshing difference between Dhoni and Rohit. Also Rohit missed the Gambir like batsman today.

Reasons Why India lost! 1) Only 4 boundries between 10 to 50 overs. This is the the main reason India lost. You don't have to play so defensively! 2) Set batsmen threw their wickets. Kohli was set at 54 little mistake and gone! I don't blame Rohit because he was playing the same way whole tournament. Then comes Rahul 66 runs in 107 balls. He thought to accelerate in last 10 overs but got out in 41.3 overs. We never come in the mode of hitting only situation. Last hope Surya also failed to score those extra 30 runs in last 4 overs! So all set batsmen were playing slowly and then giving their wickets! 3) This pitch was not for 400 runs total. Do you get this? India played like let's score 400 fastly but it was 300 Runs pitch. We should not have thrown so much wickets in the beginning and played like chasing 300 runs! Silly Bhajji was saying that Aus made mistake by bowling first but the truth is that Aussies did read the pitch better than Indians. This pitch does play better in second innings, Eng vs NZ, Sa vs Afg are the proofs.

Rohit's wicket was turning point. 1) If it was a flat 400 pitch, I would have understood he needed to keep going with his 200 SR, but for this pitch, it wasn't required. Gill was already out then why to throw one more wicket and hope someone from middle order will save us? First match against Australia was the example, there can be sudden wickets and pressure (not to lose wicket pressure + final pressure) will be on team. Then it becomes tough to score even single run, eventually that happened. Just run a ball after 10 overs would have been sufficient for next 30 overs, and very much possible if we had Rohit and Kohli's wickets in hand. Once they get under pressure I am sure Cummins or Starc would have given you enough short ball to hit pull shot. 2) He has already been through this kind of situation in 2015, 2017, 2019. You can't trust Iyer, Gill or new players or you don't know how they will react if we lose sudden 2-3 wickets. It should be on senior players to play responsible and ask juniors to ramp up the innings, so even if they lose wicket, senior will be there to handle the situation.

I was broken down watching Rohit cry and immediately walk away to the dressing room. He was simply sensational the whole tournament with the bat and also with his captaincy. He is an exceptional leader. He had put in all the efforts to see his team get through to the finals and the team just remained defensive and fearful all throughout the game after Rohit and Shreyas got out, succumbed to the pressure and failed on the big day. This loss will hurt big time because we were dominant, threatening and on top of the game except the main occasion. We peaked in this tournament, so you can't expect more from the team even in the future WCs, after having such an incredible tournament and still ended up losing. So, if not now, everyone would wonder when will we again lift the trophy. But let's believe and back our team. My heart goes out to the team, especially Rohit. Stay strong team and come back harder. Love you team India!

@@sajidahmed4332 I don't completely agree. MS Dhoni has captained Indian team in 6 T20 WCs and he has won only 1 out of 6 trophies which was in 2007. Does this make him not so great captain? No right, we still declare him as the best captain ever despite losing 5 trophies. I've closely followed Rohit's tactical decisions on the field when it comes to the rotation of his bowlers in both IPL and this WC. He has a great sense of the game and knows when to use which player during the course of the game. There are lots of factors involved in defining the winner in the knockouts and the trophies and all of them have to collectively work together. Unfortunately, it didn't work and it just wasn't our day today. We succumbed to the pressure and failed on the big stage, nothing much to say.

We didn't make Australia change their plan and we kept playing defensive cricket, that was where we lost the match. Atleast one of KL and Virat should've started attacking their 5th bowler, which would've made Australia rethink and change their plans. We let them execute their plans easily. Their plan was simple, they knew our batters won't go hard in the 2nd powerplay, so they let their 5th bowler bowl their overs from one end and one of their strike bowlers bowled from the other end. No matter how tough the pitch was, we should've taken risks and hit boundaries at regular intervals. 4 boundaries in the last 40 overs was just defensive approach and is totally unacceptable man. Post our batting innings itself, I guess Rohit was not 100% confident and we were completely on the backfoot. Only thing he hoped was to exert pressure straight up. For that, we had to start our bowling with a bang. But Australia scored 15 runs in the first over, they made Rohit make a move to get Shami in the 2nd over which impacted Siraj's contribution. We were already playing with 5 bowlers and hampering Siraj's ability with the new ball was just a masterstroke yaar, it was just like we were playing with 4 proper bowlers and defending a low score. Shami didn't look the same with the new ball, he was conceding lots of extras and Marsh thrashed him. So, this move impacted not only Siraj, but also Shami's performance. Had our first over went for under 5 runs, we'd have sticked to our plans and it'd have been a great fight from both Siraj and Shami. It was sad to see Rohit clueless and the lacking fire on the field was quite evident from the body language of the players. Poor guy, what else could he have done. Overall, it was a very sad day man. I don't have any words and I am just sad. It is so painful, I am absolutely shattered. I hope we comeback harder and win another ICC event soon, till then this loss will hurt big time man.

Akash Chopra ji thank you for narrating the story as it happened. Few big lessons to the upcoming games for Team India, while playing matches against the heavyweight opponents - 1.) Always keep in mind that the pitch should be easy to bat and also aid fast bowling. Its a rule of thumb. Lets not try to make spinnfriendly pitches as it doesnt help while playing overseas by any means. Use the existing chennai and kolkata pitches for spin if needed and focus on playing on good batting friendly pitches of Wankhede and Bangalore 2.) Indian team needs taller players in excess of 5ft 9 inches who can bat and fast bowl - like Hardik Pandya for sure (hardik can pull the bouncers for 4 and take a wicket as well with the short ball because he is taller) 3.) We need to focus on fielding and better field placements that are targetting a specific opponent batsman based on their weakness. 4.) An attacking field with slips to save the odd boundaries and prevent bastmen from freeing their arms is needed. This also means we need players who are able and fit to run across larger boundaries and be willing to dive. So the outfields should be of good quality grass to support dives 5.) Please focus more on ODI and test matches rather than T20 / IPL. Better have ODI IPLs 6.) Fielding, catching, throwing at stumps, running between the wickets, building partnerships must be given preference over hitting just raw shots towards boundaries all the time. 7.) Prefer to play a day match instead of a day-night match. For heavens sake, playing under the lights is stressful. especially the dew factor, sleeplessness and tiresomeness, difficulty seeing the ball under the lights etc are all practical factors that we should avoid at all costs 8.) After all we invest on our precious players, so keeping them mentally and physically fit without injuries and diseases is also important.

Main reasons why India lost the WC final : 1. India prepared slow pitch and thought they would win toss & bowl 1st on that slow pitch, but Australia won the toss & chose to bowl first & bowled brilliantly on that slow wicket & restricted India under 250. 2. Pitch was good in first 10 overs, that's why Rohit Sharma played his shots freely & scored good runs in powerplay. The ball on which he got out was not turned, it came straight after pitching, Rohit expected that ball will spin, but it came straight. Rohit Sharma wanted to play that ball over mid off but that ball came slow after pitching & that costed Rohit mistimed that shot, that's why he gave a catch to Travis head. But Rohit Sharma should have played steadily in that big match. What was the need of playing that shot after he already hit back to back six & four in Maxwell's over? 10 runs came in 2 balls, if he had played steadily without throwing his wicket, India's score would have been different, India would have scored 300+ in that match if he stayed on the crease. 3. Ball got old too early because of that worst slow pitch & hot weather. Pitch was good when Rohit Sharma was batting. That was very slow & dusty pitch, that's why ball started getting old after 10-15 overs. That costed Indian batters Virat Kohli & KL Rahul to play their shots freely. They couldn't play their shots freely, because ball was gripping & came slow on the bat. But these two batsmens absorbed pressure & built partnership on that worst Ahmedabad wicket. After 20-25 overs ball started reverse swinging & it made very difficult for India's batters to score runs. If India would have played on a good sporting wicket, Indian middle order batters would have scored runs freely & score good runs on the board atleast 300-350, because they scored 397 vs NZ bowling attack in semi final at Wankhede, so they had a lot of quality in batting line-up. 4. Australia won the toss and elected to field first on that slow wicket & restricted India at 240 runs by bowling good, if India would have won the toss & bowled 1st, Australia couldn't able to cross 200 runs on that slow wicket, they would have got all out at 180-190 runs & India would have chased that target easily without struggling. 5. When Australia came to bat pitch got flat like a road in 2nd innings because of dew factor heavy rolling on the pitch & they chased that target easily without struggling. Ball was came on bat nicely, they took advantage of it. India axed itself in its own foot by play on that worst wicket, that backfired them & costed India world cup trophy. Ahmedabad stadium has 10 different pitches in this ground. 5 red soil wickets, 4 black soil & 1 mixed clay wicket. But Indian coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma & team management decided to play on that worst black soil doctored wicket to trap Australia, but they fell in that trap. Coach & team management is responsible for this loss. That costed India world cup trophy & broke billion Indian fans hearts, I can't forget that moment till now & can't forget this in future. 💔 Rohit Sharma's captaincy was very defensive in that match, he can't match MS Dhoni's level of captaincy in knockout matches.

Getting into shells in middle overs cost us, I know pitch was difficult but no pitch in the world can be that difficult that you only score 3-4 boundaries during 10-40 overs. Kohli didn’t wants win to WC under rohit... Its silent plan. We have watch 2-3 more innings in asia cup 2022, and also 2022 t20 world cup and WTC final as well. Now its 23 WC also same. I know virat is best batsman in world. Starc & hazelwood are good bowler but not more good as virat as a batter. After loosing his captaincy I never found him to fighting spirit of virat in knockouts. He played just a normal innings on those knockouts. Ego. Biggest player of the world loses his captaincy just for short of run and not getting trophy.. It hurts him, an his ego get anger. Now he is playing just giving the answer to Sourav that he was best. I would say that India did not loose the world cup final but its more like "Australia won the world cup final'. Historically, Australia has beaten almost every country in the finals, like England/Pakistan/Sri Lanka/New Zealand and India now twice to win the world cup. It's because they know how to win when it actually matters. They are very strategic and plan intelligently to structure their game. They study the weakness of the opposing team and strike. They know how to put a team under pressure and take the match from the other team. Playing hard is not always the best, but playing smart is. And that's what Aussies do. No doubt INDIA IS THE BEST CRICKET TEAM IN THE WORLD, but best does not always translates to winning crucial matches.

They played exceptionally well throughout the tournament, and even after losing, we couldn't utter a single wrong word for them. This was the best team so far, stronger than the 2011 team. It felt really disappointing. There was a lack of aggression, though Jadeja got a warning from the umpire, the whole team stayed calm, except for Virat who was a bit aggressive. Before the match, they mentioned Australia's good record in knockout matches, creating unnecessary fear 😨 in subconscious mind. Pat said they would silence the crowd, and they did. If they had scored a few more runs, Shami, Bumrah, and Kuldeep could have finished the match in 30 overs. The fielding wasn't aggressive, and their plan to dip BREAD 🍞 in tea failed as they lost the cup 🍵. Despite not winning the World Cup, they were a world-champion team. It was really disheartening 😢 that they lost the final. The crowd should've directed their energy at the Aussie fielders instead of only mocking Pakistani players. They should have used all good words with mic for aus fielders. I think there was a shortage of aggression, but they ticked all the other boxes. Love for team India 🇮🇳.
