So if they were observing the pitch for 3 days, did they still not have any backup plan in case Ind loses the toss and has to bat first? Of course they must have known that there was half the probability that they would need to bat first. In reality, India wanted to avoid losing 3 wickets in the first 5 overs scenario, the thing that had been haunting them since last several big matches, CT2017 vs pak, 2019 wc SF vs NZ and T20wc 2021 vs Pak. They wanted to avoid the collapse at the start which India also had in this same world cup in the league stages against Aus, where Ishan Rohit Shreyas were out on ducks. Which is why Rohit was so confident to bat after the toss, because he knew there was no swing in the pitch for Starc to trouble Indian right handed batsmen with his left-arm pace because he and Dravid had made sure curators did not leave grass on the pitch. So the team hoped if we had the wickets and given the form we could score 320+. Even when Kohli and Rahul were batting, the dugout was very happy because they thought they had jadeja and SKY to fire in the end. All their plans failed when Cummins and Hazlewood quickly realized the slowness of the wicket and started bowling cutters. Such is the greatness of Team Aus, you plan for one thing and they demolish you with the other thing. When the score was 240, the team very well knew that they atleast needed 5 Aus wickets in the first 10 overs to even have any chance else the match was lost. Bumrah bowled his heart out because of his skills, but no swing meant an ineffective Shami. And dew meant jadeja and kuldeep were not even in the contest. Instead of doctoring the pitch in fear of their seem bowling, if India had prepared better batting line up to face them and made it a contest of skills, then India might have either won or lost with dignity. The management should have groomed one proper left hander in the top 3 to face left-arm seem in last 4 years. Not only did they not add a left hander, they actually removed Shikhar Dhawan. The only left hander they had in the playing 11 was a bowling alrounder in Jadeja, so that says how badly planned were we from the start. Travis Head proves why left-right balance in the batting order is of such importance. Still why Gambhir and Yuvraj have been the big match knockout players. Now come the t20 wc, india better focus on grooming someone from Jaiswal, Rinku, Tilak, Rahul Tripathi for the playing 11.
