I use a coffee can. Poke a bunch of holes in the can with a spike or large nail, place the bait and a rock in the can, compress the open end together and thread a rope or cord through one of the holes at the top of the can. Then chuck'er in. Its a tough trap and wont break or tear, you can use year after year. Cheers!

Fun!!! It has been cold this year. Fish just starting to bite here, and I am a thousand miles south of you. Enjoy all your videos.

It'd be interesting to see how leaches do against other live bait this time of year. Compare minners vs. crawlers vs. leeches during a point when walters are transitioning.

What are you using the leeches to catch? Here in Kentucky it’s an amazing catfish bait!
@ifishmn46454 жыл бұрын
You could also use a empty coffee can and drill small holes in the top and bottom and weigh them down with something then you can use them year after year

How do you keep the leeches/how long can you keep them. Do the need a bubbler like minnows?
@Hawaiibohntr2 жыл бұрын
I do the same trapping but use a coffee cans I set the can upright and drill hole no closer than 2 inches from the bottom I drill 360º rocks and meat, so when I pull the can the leeches stay in the bottom, even if the can sets up right, it acts like a fish trap. Might try pie pans again, we have a lot of small road ponds around. Thanks for the video.... it's about 2 -3 week before starting of walleye leech time here in ND.

You invigorated me. Took some plastic coffee cans and punched a bunch of thin holes (1/8”x1”) in it doors of 1/4” x 5/8”. Made some fish oil sponges out of old sox. Also baited with beef liver. Got nada this morning. But it was cold. Had thin ice in the reeds. I might have not used enough liver too. The stocked state lake I was at had lots of tan freckled leaches 2 years ago. Full year ago the lake had high winter kill. Minnows were coming up to ice fishing holes to breathe and then die. In the past it was stocked with rainbow and brown trout. State said there was 25” walleyes in there too. All pre winter kill. I had leaches sticking to my kayak then. That’s why I chose that one.

Do leeches make it through the winter in Sask/Mb? I feel like those small ones are this years spawn and just need time to grow (?) Biggest leeches I have seen was up in the Duck Mountains (the size of your finger).

Im in southern ontario, i just caught like 5 or 6 massive leeches about size of my index finger, they were in this flooded area in my yard its about 4 or 5 inches deep.

If you put leeches into a tank will they reproduce at all?
@mattcook78814 жыл бұрын
You know, though, I bet if you punch holes with something round like a pencil, the round hole is easy to enter but the jagged bits pointing inward would make it hard for them to escape.

@gage.c45813 жыл бұрын
I guess I’m responding a year later, but honestly it just depends on the walleye, some nights I go out and bang walleye on crawlers, some nights they refuse to eat them and only go for leeches.

You notice that you say 'excetera' and 'umm' lots, I notice when I say 'so' a lot when filming. I will say something followed by 'so' and a pause because I have a brain fart and forget what I was going to say next. As long as there is fish in the video i dont think people care that much haha.
