Several years ago I bought one of those refurbished guitars with the serial number changed. It is a Epiphone SG. It has a great set up, plays perfectly, and no cosmetic flaws either. I cannot figure out what was originally wrong. I thought it was a gamble, but have been very happy. No regrets

there honestly should be more companies like this. Especially when you think how many trees you have to down to make guitars on an industrial scale to begin with. There's a lot guitars are perfectly good instruments left to rot, because it's not part of the hype. This shows another way of doing things.

I worked there a decade or so ago, it was an amazing place to cut my teeth as a repair tech. After a while of being there they had me specializing in fixing broken Les Paul headstocks, and sometimes that's all I would do for weeks at a time. I still find MIRC instruments at shops around the country from time to time and it's good to know that instrument has been in good hands.

The ultimate goal of a musician is to create music. Sometimes it takes years to find that special instrument to connect with. MIRC/Franklin Guitar Works has created a need that fulfills it with everything not new. Being an older musician, it is very encouraging to carry on with an instrument to repair and create new music with. The mojo is still there.

In 2016 I started using MIRC as a supplier. It was overall a pretty good experience. My only real issue was their forcing of sellers to adhere to MAP (minimum advertised price) though the guitars were stamped “used”. You are not going to force me to sell a used guitar at a minimum price set by an arbitrary “standard” based on new prices.

I have been a MIRC dealer for about 20 years and the ONLY time I can remember them doing a MAP price was on ONE model for a brief period of time because some dealers were devaluing that model, which hurt everyone. I have no idea what you are talking about, your comment is very misleading

I bought a b stock from sweet water. 400 bucks off than new. The bridge was leaning forward and the truss rod adjustment hole was painted over to much. Fixed the bridge and sanded the hole to be usable, One of the best playing guitars I own now. If you can do your own setup and fixing you can save lots of cash on b stocks.

I pre-ordered a Fender 75th Anniversary Strat, paid for it, and eagerly awaited for it to arrive. Fender never shipped it. When I inquired about the order, I was told my order was canceled. I inquired more, and I was told the guitar had a flaw, so they couldn't ship it. Hmmm. I would have been happy with a discount. I suspect they really oversold the 75th anniversary Strats, and I got screwed. If the guitar really was flawed, after watching this video, I assume MIRC/Franklin Guitar Works ended up with the guitar. It's wonderful you are saving so many guitars.

The irony with B-stock is I often think the messed-up looking instruments have the most character. I even like it when people do a refurbishment for personal use and leave any damage which won’t affect playability. (I totally get why for commercial refurbs that wouldn’t work tho.)

I love this so much. I'm a big advocate for breathing new life into discarded or imperfect guitars. A massive amount of work goes into building a guitar from scratch and you just don't appreciate it until you try it for yourself. Stopping imperfect guitars from hitting the scrap heap is so important, and besides, anyone who can claim to hear a cosmetic blemish is a liar!

A guy started selling me guitars. Like $1200 vintera fenders for $300. They all played kinda crappy. (Because fender dosent want to do decent fret work or even any remote kind of setup) I would put them on my bench. Find all the high frets, address them, polish them, cut the nut, complete set up ect. Do all the things the factory wont. They turn out incredible. It really makes me happy to make a guitar play 'fantastic'. This place is Way cool! Just watching this makes me want to work on guitars!

Funny how the slightest blemish makes the manufacturer say “oh no, we can’t put our name on that…”. Meanwhile, in the custom shop next door, a specialist smacks and bashes and scrapes a brand new guitar that then becomes a distressed new old stock…

Heard. I saw an archtop on Chicago Music Exchange: a pre-Fender era Gretsch 6120. Critical-for me-was that it didn’t have trestle bracing. I wanted that more minimal bracing the Gretsch was doing on their earlier Setzer Hot Rods. Not exceedingly rare, but rare enough that you’ve gotta wait until someone feels like selling. It looked REALLY abused. If I could’ve been certain that is was only cosmetic stuff, I’d have purchased the s*** outta that guitar. To be know if the damage is cosmetic or structural, ya gotta look inside. The broken pickup bezels made me suspect the guitar may have fallen on its face in the past. That would be a dealbreaker. Repairing broken archtops is luthier purview. Pricey, and justifiably so. Their sales guy was too busy to give it the inspection I required. This company in this here video would’ve been helpful, methinks.

What does Amazon do with returned guitars ... they ( maybe ) throwing them in the trash bin . Sad . ✨✨✨🎸✨✨✨
@NotExpatJoe
@NotExpatJoe 2 ай бұрын
A significant portion of Amazon's sales is driven by third-party sellers, who maintain control over their inventory. These sellers face a crucial decision regarding damaged items: they can choose to have products returned or destroyed. While Amazon typically disposes of unusable goods, such as broken guitars, this action is only carried out at the request of the third-party sellers. Thus, the responsibility for such choices solely rests with third-party sellers, not Amazon.

There are also a lot of closet queens. They are guitars that were bought by people who wanted to learn to play the guitar but gave up and let the instrument sit in the closet for years. I bought and fixed these instruments for about 2 year from private online sellers for $25 to $150. After giving them the love they need to make them playable again I would sell them for a small profit I used to buy Luthier tools. It's was a hobby and certainly not a get rich scheme but it kept these instruments from going to the city dump.
