@@ariari4133 Actually meaning of Dharma is a Duty (Dharma = Religion is a "modern" concept). When it comes to follow your Dharma or fulfill your Dharma means follow/fulfill your duty. Duty changes person to person, relation to relation. For example you have a duty towards your parents as a son/daughter. You have a duty towards your brothers/sisters, if you are a parent you have a duty towards your children. Duty towards your society, nation, nature, God and so on.. Basically it means the order that makes life and universe possible, and includes duties, rights, laws, conduct, virtues and "right way of living".

Neelimaglory i can see your good will by saying this, my experience is that i am born from a hortodox christian mother and a muslim father, at the moment i became sincere with my spiritual developpement Krishna came to me thru the Gita. If i could quickly expiain you what have i learned thru my little journey it would be about scriptures: our univers is like an aquarium, some scriptures describe the shapes of the statues in this aquarium, some other scriptures describe how water flows in this aquarium, then you’ll find scriptures who explain the link between the water and what is in this aquarium. However the one who enjoys this aquarium, who created it is One, fishs debate on many things but if no one of them knows that water surronds them, how do you they understand the nature of the place they’re in? I would recommend to follow Krishna commands has they were told in the Gita and any one will get that he had missed the subtle water of this aquarium. May I have been clear in what i tried to say. Coz we aren't following our Sanathan Dharma like how the Christians follow the Bible or the Muslims follow the Quran and Prophet Muhammad PBUH. We are brought up in a convent school and we don't have our own indigenous school. We in India have more of convents and madrassas. We are told don't be a Hindu be a secularists as being a Hindu/Dharmic is old fashioned. That's the problem with our society. We will accept Islam and Christianity and their cultures but we some how feel ashamed of what we are and what's our culture, we like to portray ourselves as modern.

So basically everything is morally relative, meaning what is wrong today could change tomorrow. Basically people have to interrupt for themselves, and you know eventually that leads everybody has a deity complex that they can justify actions that evolve. Hinduism has No central authority, or book to guide persons, it rather put together in subtype scriptures that don't allow persons to walk the moral path in a changing world.

School children from a very early age must know deeper laws of karma, dharma and also must also read Baghavad Gita to do the right thing in their life. Dharma has the Sanskrit root dhri, which means “that which upholds” or “that without which nothing can stand” or “that which maintains the stability and harmony of the universe.” Dharma encompasses the natural, innate behavior of things, duty, law, ethics, virtue, etc. Every entity in the cosmos has its particular dharma - from the electron, which has the dharma to move in a certain manner, to the clouds, galaxies, plants, insects, and of course, man. Man’s understanding of the dharma of inanimate things is what we now call physics.

Saaduddin Ansari Brother... Whether Hinduism or Islam or any other religions, one's relationship with God is not related with what you eat. Cow protection was something that came up because during older times as we were mostly farmers, cow was a very essential port of our economics well being, therefore like in older days if you want to make any rules to stick , you say it is a divine rule.... however Hindu spiritualism is different so don't get confused. I think if you examine Islam and Sharia you might be able to see similar expression of divine will. That's how thing we're done in older times

DHARMA: Don't just believe only because others believe or say so....be a seeker! that's what I love the most about Hinduism. "Philosophy decides goal of life Goal of life decides ur lifestyle Lifestyle decides ur habits Habits decide ur wants and needs If your philosophy is disturbed, everything gets disturbed!" Although it's not so easy to explain Dharma, but let me try in capacity of my understanding: Dharma is based on Righteousness which in the core is based on the principle of "Minimization of Harm". Harm of what? Harm of 'Prakriti' which is neither 'aatman' nor 'brahman' bcoz aatman and brahman can't be harmed or unharmed. Prakriti includes everything in our behavioural life that we have to deal with, both living & non-living. So it includes Human society and it's Dynamic Value System, Animal Kingdom, Plants, Water, Soil, Sunlight, different Celestial bodies and everything remaining in this physical world which I might be missing here. Making it more simpler, I would like to explain it one line or two: First analyzing one's strengths and weaknesses according to a given dilemma situation of either conflicting responsibilities or non-conflicting responsibilities (that need to be prioritized), one should take that decision (or even at least think of it because one's intention also comes in his/her Karmic fold) at that moment in the capacity of one's intellect, experience and understanding; which would bring the maximum 'benefit' to the 'Prakriti' in whole for the larger amount of time possible. Now this 'harm' and 'benefit' requires a very detailed subjective analysis that changes from one situation to another. Dharma evolves with time on the principle of 'least harm' and harm from challenges that also keep changing with time. For an example, let us take about 'peace'. Today to maintain peace in this age of war of faiths and civilizations, Dharma too has evolved by eliminating the principle of "One way Tolerance irrespective of what comes in return" and adding the concept of Poison Pills like Mutual-Respect and even Scriptural changes based on some minimum qualifier i.e., Mutual-Respect. Take any other real life examples like Vegetarianism, Best World Order, Democracy, Economy, Corporate Dharma, Feminism, Freedom of Expression, etc and try to critically analyze it, and you would understand what Dharma is indeed.

I would appreciate if there was awareness in people to call it Sanatan Sanskriti or Vedic Dharma. Sanatan Sanskriti is repository of knowledge with human evolution. This evolved with the time and yug (kaal). 1. The place between Himalaya in north to indu sarovar (Indian ocean) is called Hindu. Himalya Hi and Indu. Makes the word Hindu. Used for geographic demarcation. Hindu kush mountain Hindu river called as Sindhu river all indicated the sanskrit origin of the word. But yes doesn't indicate religion but Geographic. Hindustan is a pure sanskrit origin word. Read the puran. The muslim invaders tried to demean the word Hindu with many bad words to show them down and paint them as bad people. This is how racist jokes are created. 2. Since Dharma evolved and led humans from darkness to light from ignorance to knowledge. "tamso ma jyotirgamaya". There was no other religion to compete So there is no name, no rules for bashing other religion and concept of conversion. You can't bash criticize or compete non existent. 3. This is why got more than 1400 books scriptures on various topics helpful in material and spiritual life and this knowledge evolved with time. 4. Ayurvda, Medicine, Vyakrna, Natyashashtra, state crafts, yagya hawan ritual, philosophy, astrology, Jyotish, poetics, sangita shastra, yoga, Veda,Vedanta, Puran, Mimansa architecture mathematics to name a few. Books are available on every aspect of human brain can imagine in such a detail that only one book Mahabharat contains one lakh shlokas. 5. In short Dharma is celebration of the diversity of Human knowledge. Celebrating life and Nature is integral part of Sanatan sanskriti. Hindu celebrate Holi Diwali Chhath Pongal Vaisakhi Sankranti alongside numerous smaller celebration round the year. 6. We as a layman only know about Dharma as a blind man knows about elephant after holding the tail of the elephant. 7. Most of us are only able to know what we see on daily basis like nature and creation worship. And on the basis of this we criticize and appreciate dharma. But Dharma criticize none. Dharma don't give scope for criticism but enlightenment and seeking truth . 8. There is so much more to know. Since I am born in a Dharma followers family. Therefore I celebrate the diversity of human thoughts with ease. Dose not mean i know everything. But once you will know Dharma out of the set criteria of Abrahamic religion for Dharma. You will find nothing to criticize like a blind man holding an elephant tail and saying why he is made to hold a snake. Instead of criticism You will question and seek answers. 9. For example when you see a survivor on discovery eating dead animal poo and pee either you appreciate or criticize this. But no one can deny that this human will survive the odd. And Dharma have a complete set of philosophy and practicing sect called aghori. However a few. To make sure that the human will survive the extreme. Human will not die out because of the certain dogmas made by the so called civilized society or religion. Dharma supports all accommodates all. 10. Religion ends at heaven and hell only but the Dharma gives to strive even beyond this. That's Moksha complete liberation. Gives emphasis on seeking, knowing your self deep within and finding your own path. This is the reason from Sanatan dharma lots of ism like Jain, Buddha, Sikh, vaishnava Shaiva, Atheism, came out without any conflict or blood shed. Can you imagine the same with Abrahmic religion? 11. If someone adopts Sanatan dharma way of life. He automatically fits into the either Varna Vyavstha Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya, Shudra according to their profession or Ashram Vyavstha Brahmacharya Grihasth Vanprasth and Sanyas. Together its called Varnashram Vyavstha for the benefit of the society. I can enlighten you on this vedic Varnashram vayvstha. Mail me Varna division start from us. Our head is our brahma to control our shoulders are our kshatriya to protect us our stomach is our vysya to feed us and our foot are our shudra to serve us. Another term division of profession. Which exists all over the world in different forms. And this is most scientific division of profession to avoid conflict in society. This Varna can be achieved by your Karma. To fit into Ashram one has nothing to do. Fits in naturally and can stay in any of the phase as long as he wants. Now it depends on us that we respect equally to our teacher and our toilet cleaner. Which Dharma clearly says respect each and every thing. This is why worship for all not only to teachers. So if you respect your teacher and toilet cleaner equally you are a great Dharmik person. Now where you see fault in this varna system. Lots of Rishi were not born in cast Brahman but respected worshipped. Cast seems a tribal identity with all the evils of Ego and depends totally an individual local social environment no support from Dharma 12. Sanatan Dharma allow an individual to seek truth, follow a path or make his her own path to reach the goal of 'Brahma" the energy and consciousness of the Universe. The feeling of अहं ब्रह्मास्मी, I am the consciousness makes one enlighten and तत् त्वमसी, so are you makes you a Guru. This is the reason encouraged many enlightened soul to find and make their own path. Thus Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism, sant parampra like Kabir, Ravidas etc were born without any conflict. Dharma allowed them to propagate and flourish 13. Comparing Dharma with one book one prophet religion is not a good idea. Can only increase ignorance. Because books of mazhab are small simple and for that for the followers of that particular mazhab only. So better study the world's oldest surviving civilization based on Dharma with universal application, yourself. अहं बर्हमासमी l तत त्वं असी. सर्वे जना:सुखिनो भवन्तु. सर्वे सन्तु निराम्या:l वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम l

For me, My favorite Superhero since I was a kid was Yudhisitira. My Grandma always used to tell me stories from Mahabharata. I don't follow Hinduism, I only follow Dharma. I don't care about Hindu Gods, I care more about Dharma. Dharma here means "Righteousness" (Universal Justice).

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HINDUISM AND CHRISTIANITY/ ISLAM Occasionally I noticed that in western publications Hinduism was missing when religions were listed. Buddhism was there without fail, but its mother so to speak, was being ignored. What could be the reason? About one billion human beings are Hindus. Hinduism is alive and vibrant. There is hardly another people who are as ’religious’ and have so much faith in the Divine. Yet what they revere and hold dear is often considered ‘only’ as a way of life. However, the discussion is still on. Some argue, “Dharma”, as Hindus (and Buddhists, too) refer to their ‘religion’ cannot be translated as religion. It differs from western religions in many aspects; therefore Hinduism is not a religion. Others feel that since ‘religions’ are legally and socially greatly privileged in today’s world, it would be a big blunder to leave this field to Christianity and Islam who would triumphantly wade into that vacuum. They might claim (and they are experts in unsubstantiated claims) that everyone has a right to religion: therefore, since Hindus don’t have a religion, they need to be blessed with the ‘true’ religion. To get any further, let’s look at the definition of religion. Unfortunately, there is no clear cut definition. There is however an implicit understanding that religion is about the mysterious origin of our universe, about its creator, about God and about moral guidelines for our lives. The word ‘religion’ comes from re-ligare (Latin) which means to bind back. One could assume that it means to bind the human being back to his creator or God. In that case, Hindu Dharma is definitely a religion. In fact it is the original, most ancient religion. Many thousands of years ago, the Indian rishis enquired into the truth of this visible world. They postulated criteria for ‘truth’ and came to the conclusion that one invisible, conscious essence is the only true ‘thing’ permeating everything in this apparent universe and beyond. They called it Brahman (from big, expanding) or simply Tat (that) and postulated that it was eternal, infinite, unchanging, true, aware, blissful and the invisible basis of everything including our own person. So basically, we are that Brahman. Our essence is That. Only, we are born blind to this truth and the purpose of life is to realize it. Further, ancient Indian scriptures give many methods for achieving this Self- or God-realization. Now, when western religions appeared on the scene, they limited this vast, all-pervading Brahman to a “God” who is personal, male, separate from his creation and with strong likes and dislikes. For example, this God, so is claimed, greatly dislikes any human being who does not acknowledge him as the only true God. In fact he even has decreed that any such human being will burn eternally in hell, unless he officially (through a small ritual) joins the ‘true religion’. Now, how do these religions know what God is and what he wants? Because God/ Allah has revealed ‘the truth’ to two persons - to Jesus Christ some 2000 years ago and Prophet Mohammed some 1400 years ago, and these revelations have been handed down in two books, the Bible and the Quran. And what is the proof that all this is true? There is no proof, except for the words of those two persons who are, however, not ordinary persons: Jesus Christi is the only son of God and Prophet Mohammed Allah’s final prophet. That is what Christianity and Islam claim as truth and they repeat this claim again and again so that it looks as if proven and nobody dares to question it.Further, in a psychologically clever move, they cater to in-group instincts: “God has chosen you to be born in the true religion. You are very lucky, because if you believe and follow what we tell you, you go to heaven, whereas all others go to hell.” We can see by now that there are indeed significant differences between the Abrahamic religions on one side, and Hinduism on the other. The Abrahamic religions come as a fixed ‘belief system’, which means that blind belief is required in dogmas, which have no chance to be verified. Hindu Dharma on the other hand is based on a genuine enquiry into truth, which means that there is no need to accept any claim that does not make sense. Now, religion is also defined as ‘belief system’. In that case, the Abrahamic religions easily qualify. However, there is a contradiction. On one hand, religions claim to tell us about the truth, and on the other hand we have two different, unverifiable ‘belief systems’ about this truth from Christianity and Islam. They can’t be both true and there is a chance that none of them is true, because they contradict human intelligence. It certainly does not make sense that the absolute, eternal truth is a story about a God who is heavily biased towards one group (which one?) of humanity. So here comes in again Hindu Dharma. It is the best possible ‘belief system’ that is not based on dogmas but based on knowledge and direct experience. It is open to scientific validation. It is possible to know that this manifold manifestation is permeated by one energy or awareness. So the Hindu claim that all including the human being is divine, because all is ultimately Brahman is in all likelihood true. “Tat tvam asi” or in English, ‘you are God’, is however fiercely rejected as heresy by the Abrahamic religions. Mystics of both Christianity and Islam, who experienced this oneness and dared to proclaim it, were excommunicated or even killed. So does it follow that those religions even resist the truth? Could re-ligare “bind back” be better interpreted as “holding the individual back from realizing his oneness with the Absolute”? This conclusion may actually not be off the mark, especially if one sees how much effort goes into denigrating Hinduism. Every school kid in the world is taught that Hinduism is weird. Not only school kids, at the university level, too there is clearly an attempt by western academics (and that includes western orientated Indians) to aggressively despise Hinduism. “Invading the Sacred: An Analysis of Hinduism Studies in America” gives ample proof how outrageously Hinduism is portrayed and how benignly the ‘revealed’ religions. Are people in the west really intellectually so deficient to believe that an irrational dogma, like “everyone has to join the Church to be saved” has anything to do with the truth? Or do they denigrate Hinduism as they know that it has the capacity to trump the western belief systems and undermine their power if only there were a genuine debate on what we can know about the truth? However, running down Hinduism was for too long too crude and it backfired by now. Hindus realize that their tradition cannot possibly be as bad as it is made out to be. They reacted first in the US and got the syllabus in US schools and colleges changed. Slowly in India, too, the awareness that Hindu Dharma actually stands tall among religions is growing. So is Hindu Dharma a religion? Well, if religions are about the truth, then Hindu Dharma (I see Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism as its offspring) is the best religion. However, if religions are meant to prevent the individual from realizing the truth, then Hindu Dharma is not a religion. But since Christianity and Islam claim to reveal the truth and will not acknowledge that they hinder their flock from knowing the real truth, Hindu Dharma needs to take its rightful place on top among the religions. So far, the two big ‘belief systems’ have dominated the scene and each one declared itself as the ‘only true religion’, even called itself ‘universal’ for the sole reason that both storm all over the world trying to impose their dogmas. Hindu Dharma should appropriate the ‘universal’ tag for itself as it is naturally universal. Everyone and all are included in Brahman. Many Hindus will probably jerk now and call such advice unacceptable: “No, we are not chauvinistic. Even if others are, we are not like them.” But is it not true? And is Hindu Dharma not about being truthful and fearless and helpful to others? Many in the west feel oppressed by mandatory belief in dogmas, and leave the Church. They opt for atheism as for them anything metaphysical is intrinsically connected with the Church. Some, mostly educated people discover Buddhism. Hinduism unfortunately is not an option for most, as it is projected to be weird. Only few discover its value and stand by it, like Julia Roberts did. If Hindus would be forthright about the profound insights of their rishis, Hindu Dharma would surely spread across the world, as it did in ancient times throughout Asia. Of course Hindus would need to know at least the basics of their dharma and do some sadhana for
