The Purusha Suktha verses that are often quoted for originating varna, were misinterpreted by Sayanacharya who wrote the earliest available commentary after islamic invasions destroyed all major educational institutions of india. There are two verses in this poem that are referenced for varna theory. In this, Brahmana is referred to as providing the face of the Purusha (universal mind) - not head. Kshatriya is not mentioned at all. Significant parts of the body are left out. There is a different interpretation I see, which I can share if you’re interested. 2. The British deep state tried to break the emerging Indian independence movement in the 1920s. One way they did this was by dividing rights along faultlines. They created 30% reserved electorates for muslims. This led to the rise of religious polarization and eventual civil war and partition. They also attempted to break the hindu unity by dividing along labor communities vs others. They created a list of all castes which mostly in laborer roles and called them scheduled castes (later called as dalit/oppressed), and gave them 15% reserved electorates. This threatened another civil war. Gandhiji went on an indefinite fast and the issue was “sort of” resolved by the poona pact. However, the 15% reservation for the SC castes got incorporated into the constitution giving them permanent benefits. This single act has made the caste system permanent in India. Because now one has to maintain their caste certicates (yes! A certificate is needed!!!) to claim the reservation benefits, which is really generous compared to for others.
