Indeed. As the wise economist once said: *"Producers and consumers are identical. Production and consumption are different stages in acting. Catallactics embodies these differences in speaking of producers and consumers. But in reality they are the same people. It is, of course, possible to protect a less efficient producer against the competition of more efficient fellows. Such a privilege conveys to the privileged the benefits which the unhampered market provides only to those who succeed in best filling the wants of the consumers. But it necessarily impairs the satisfaction of the consumers. If only one producer or a small group is privileged, the beneficiaries enjoy an advantage at the expense of the rest of the people. But if all producers are privileged to the same extent, everybody loses in his capacity as consumer as much as he gains in his capacity as a producer. Moreoover, all are injured because the supply of products drops if the most efficient men are prevented from employing their skill in that field in which they could render the best services to the consumers." - Ludwig Von Mises (Human Action, pp. 312-313)*

How about automation and artificial intelligence which are replacing and competing against human labour in many sectors ? In your video, Martin could deploy robots; instead of hiring Jack and other diggers.
@EconClips6 жыл бұрын
There is a theory, that points out, that if simple tasks were to be automized, humans would have more resources to do specifically "human" tasks. For example: we used to have workers, whose only job was to place bowling pins in order after throw. Now it's automized. Is it bad, that people don't have to do this anymore?
@biutifulkruz7986 жыл бұрын
As a matter of fact, i wanted you to address why human labour are much needed in our economy or any economies. In my opinion, whenever a human receives a wage or salary, he/she will spend it. Through this expenditure, we can measure it. With each dollar spent, it is some how creating jobs in other sectors, right? However, with each employment of robots, there is no expenditure to be measured because robots do not spend on itself, robots don't do pedicure/manicure, robots don't raise kids, etc. Decline in economic transactions at retail outlets. Therefore, with many jobs being replaced by automation or robotic counterparts, the economy will register higher productivity but the expenditure model shrinks, isn't it true? There is no cascading effect of money spent and quantity theory of money model doesn't hold since robots don't go shopping, don't dine out at fancy restaurants/diners, robots don't check into hotels and play games at casinos, etc. Since robots do not buy houses, thus, robots don't take mortgage loans, study loans, hire purchase, etc. Therefore there is no wealth effect created by lending and borrowing activities for the bankers. I think you get my drift.

@@biutifulkruz798 You're implying that the only way a human can gain income is by selling his labor. They can sell other products/services as well. As machines lower in cost, more people are able to buy/invest in automated production, and gain income from the profits/dividends/rents.

I disagree with you on the interest rates...lowering interest rates discourages people to save (I agree), but it *discourages* people to have their money sitting in a bank, so instead they decide to spend it (increasing *consumer spending, the velocity of money, and thus stimulating the economy) or invest* it which further stimulates the economy.
@EconClips7 жыл бұрын
what do you think happens to the money that is "sitting in a bank"? It's invested, bank lend it out. Lowering rates below the market level causes business cycles. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIrHd2OEbs2grsU
@lukahenigman84537 жыл бұрын
I see your POV and where you are coming from, but there a great inefficiencies in your statement. Higher interest rates deter entrepreneurs and other individuals from seeking credit (unless inflation is greater than the interest), and even though it encourages people to save, banks do not have 100% efficiency in lending (there also has to be a demand for credit at the right price). Consumers have 100% efficiency as if they are not saving their only option is to spend (re-injecting capital into the economy via consumer spending and thus increasing the velocity of money) or invest (this cuts out the the middle man [bank] which increases efficiency).

The proposed solution seem to not adress the issue, that the company needs to have an ever increasing profit to satisfy investors (the guys who lent and keep lending money to Mark to get all the construction machines). Meanwhile the available laborers only increase in numbers as the total population grows and automation takes over. What is good for companies aren't necessarily good for the populace.

OF COURSE the construction company is exploiting the worker. A worker coop does the EXACT SAME as a capitalist owned company, but pays ALL it's profit to the workers. Worker coops are in fact WAY more profitable than capitalist enterprises, simply because they do not have share holders sitting above the workers, sucking profit out of the workers without ever contributing any work themselves. Worker coops are even WAY more advanced than capitalist enterprises, so much so that Microsoft rents lab time at the university of Mondragon, because the labs at Mondragon are so advanced that Microsoft cannot even dream of building something like that.
