As an African American, I definitely want to see representation for more minority groups, but the way Hollywood has gone about has been all wrong. It feels like crossing off a checklist than wanting to tell true genuine stories. I hate the word woke, but many companies do just have diversity for the sake of just having it. I want the stories to be genuine for minority communitie along with getting fair opportunities to be able to breakthrough
@ChozoFS11 сағат бұрын
The best representation comes when the groups being represented are in the creative process. Thus why some of the best queer representation in entertainment comes from queer creators, for example, like Dana Terrace's The Owl House, and ND Stevenson's Nimona. When representation comes from an authentic place of wanting to help others like yourself feel seen and allowed to exist, it's beautiful, but when it feels more like a corporate checkbox to attract a demographic, not caring about them outside the money they can bring the studio, it lacks soul.

The year of 2023 showed how much having a big budget movie tied to an IP doesn’t sell tickets like sell like it used to. Sean called that year, “The year of the flopbuster.” The thought was that studios wouldn’t keep throwing tons of money at IP movies. Instead, they would focus on smaller budget movies and original stories. We’re at the end of 2024 and random sequels are still being funded and distributed. Directors who do interesting original projects continue to get sucked up into the major Hollywood studios. I hope there will be eventual shifts in what gets a gigantic budget, lots of marketing, and great box office success, but I don’t feel like that’ll be happening in the near future.
@StupidMarioBros1Fan10 сағат бұрын
The introduction of streaming is also a major factor in the shifting landscape for movies. I forget who it was but a director (or maybe it was an actor) recently said in an interview that if a film did poorly at the box office, the home video market was a second chance at making a profit or even being a hit. But the average person doesn't buy DVDs & blu-rays anymore unless they specifically want a physical copy or have unreliable Internet because "why spend money on a film you haven't seen when you can stream it for free?" Whatever the profit split is for having your stuff on streaming apps isn't like the home release market so now if a movie does poorly at the box office, it doesn't really have a second chance unless it (somehow) becomes a massive hit. Especially when the budgets are so big. Because of this I think the studios will soon realize that it's no longer safe to dump $200 Million on movies, in fact they might have already. We're still dealing with the fallout of The Pandemic as multiple films that were in development were pushed back, most of next year's Marvel films were supposed to be out already. And since a lot of those films have been in production for a while, the studio spends extra money to make sure they'll be successful...which forces the movies to require half a billion to break even. New productions will likely have lower budgets going forward, we just have lingering high-budget stuff that need to come out.

Well said about diversity. Its not a racist/sexist/whatever motive, its just wanting it to be natural.
@Thefallenminecraftworld270754 сағат бұрын
Define natural? I genuinely don't get it.
@insanemurdog6556Сағат бұрын
@ to me its unnatural if its obvious they prioritized it over the story and characters. There are numerous show and movies that have plenty of diverse lead characters that are well written. Its natural when the storyteller actually has something to say, not when the storyteller is trying to make people happy.

I’ve been saying this for years. After comic book movies, I think we’re going to see a reversion back to old hollywood. Big epics and musicals. Big event movies, and small budget movies.Smaller series movies are becoming tv series. Wicked has made me pretty confident. I wouldnt be surprised if the highest grossing films over the next 10 years are big epics musicals. Unfortunately Gladiator has me questioning the other side. The big epics movies are just too expensive to make

3:10 in the 1920s upto the 1950s there was a Hollywood studio system and then there were small budget movies that did high collections in the box office then again in Big budget movie started to come it is a cycle that repeats itself every 20 to 30 years I think that phase ended in 2019 at the cycle has started once again

I think in the next 5 years Hollywood will be more director driven like Christopher Nolan already is, as well as franchise films not necessarily going away but not have $300m budgets and go back to their roots w occasional high budget sequels like Avengers. But I think overall most of our blockbuster movies will aim for the $100-150m budget range like Sonic, Barbie, the Illumination movies, Nolan movies, etc
