Where does Ken Roczen Rank in the GOAT Conversation?

Trey Canard is one of the nicest people I have ever met and of all of his amazing accomplishments during his career as a professional dirt bike racer, that might be the one thing that sticks out. If Kenny never had his big crash the last 7 years would look completely different. Webb and Anderson wouldn't have SX titles, Eli never would have hit 50 wins, and Kenny would probably be as well decorated as RV2. He really was that good. We all got robbed of seeing one of the most talented riders in history show what he was capable of.

And what if JS7 did not crash and got hurt on so many occasions? What if RV2 did not get hurt in St. Louis 2009? Would his record be better than what he accomplished? What if all greats did not get hurt?

The same could be said about Eli’s double shoulder injury in ‘15. What if that never happened? Too say that Tomac wouldn’t have hit 50 wins without Roczens injuries isn’t completely outrageous but come on Tomacs had some gnarly injuries himself so what if not for those? Would he have 60? Now Webb and Anderson that I agree with, they would’ve been lucky to win a main event if Kenny and Tomac both had fully healthy and consistent careers.

Kenny is right up there behind tomac, not on the list but in how good he was and what he brought to the sport. His career and stats dont lie. He does make alot of excuses and most hate him cause he doesnt have an SX title, I get that. But hes tied with Webb in sx wins, and raced fewer seasons due to injury. His outdoor career doesnt lie either. He beat herlings when he was on a 250 in MXGP. 2014 rookie year champ, and 2016 was one of the best outdoor seasons ive watched. Almost a perfect season aside from a dnf on a stock Zook is nuts. Plus what hes doing now on the suzuki. Especially after the injuries hes went through. People can say what they want but Kennys brought alot to the sport and one of the best still riding today along with Tomac. Him showing up and even hanging with Jett was awesome to see. Aside from Tomac hes the second best rider still riding today, and im much more of a Tomac fan than Roczen, but his career doesnt lie. People just dislike him as a person and see him as whiney and I get that too. But you cant deny his skill on a bike. Hes beat everyone from James to Dungey and up. Hes been beat by them as well, but im happy to still have Kenny and Tomac around, and still competitive. Is he in the GOAT topic? Well of course not, but you cant deny hes top 10 atleast in the last 10 years, and I truly believe without those injuries he would be way up in that topic. But cant chnage the past, what happened is what it is. The fact hes still riding and winning or getting podiums from time to time at his age with wrist braces is pretty crazy. Plus in 2021 he was 2nd in both Championships and had the most combined points out of both disciplines. Hes came super close a few times since his injury even. He's kinda been the man to beat up until last year, whether people will admit that or not. He's been in every Championship battle or hunt before and after his injury. Pretty impressive.

Kenny is a GOAT. The severe ups and downs and he just kept marching on. And winning...that's the thing. He's still winning after all that. He'll never have the numbers of an RC or MC but that doesn't take anything from a guy like Kenny. And he's a nice guy too. Spoke to him briefly in the pits at High Point in 2012 (???) and even though he was working he took time to speak with a few of us. Very nice and even a laugh or two. Yep a GOAT of the sport.

Kenny and et3 are two guys I think we never got to see fully play out. If Kenny never had his huge crash I think eli and Dungey would probably have had to work a LOT harder to win in sx. Same way I think Eli would have made everyone step up in Moto. 2015 Tomac in moto was absolutely unseen since the bubba or Ricky days. With such a stacked field too.

I've always thought the same thing. We got absolutely robbed of seeing one of the most talented riders in history reach his full potential. The fact that he even came back from the injuries he had shows how talented he is.
