I’m going to be sitting chuckling to myself when everyone 180’s on mason mount. He is a fantastic player. There is damn good reason Ten hag gave mason mount the number 7. Looks like no one actually watched him play at Chelsea. He received their player of the season award twice including the season they won the champions league. FYI AJ he’s going to play the position Ten Hag has been placing mctominay at when he starts. Mount is an end to end player that knows how to play football.

The worry is that our medical team have made a lot of mistakes with assessing injuries of some of our top players like Shaw and Martinez. They were nowhere near in top condition for a return. Let's hope they haven't made the same mistake again...

Seems like a lot of pressure on him wearing that number 7 shirt. Hasn’t hit the ground running but given a good amount of games and played in the right position (wherever that is), there’s a player there. I still believe he’s one of the best midfielders in the PL off the ball. Can cross and take corners as well which doesn’t sound like a lot but from a United perspective, just look at how many goals they’ve scored from corners and set pieces in the last two years.

No he doesnt, Bruno looses the ball too much as the CAM because he is always playing the final ball to our inverted forwards. Bruno as the deeper midfielder doesn't try to play through balls to our forwards to get in behind the defence, he plays for the attacking 3rd to get the ball to feet, especially a player like Mount to recieve on the half turn. ​@@richson222

If they did a 4222, Mount could go next to Bruno with the options if the two attackers upfront being between 2 of Rashford, Hujlund or Garnancho. That could open up some serious creativity

Ideally you'd want to see a defensive midfielder with Mount and Mainoo in the middle. Possibly Case-Mainoo-Mount. But ETH doesn't seem to want to drop Bruno. In games Utd goes for possession, trio of Mainoo-Mount-Bruno. Then in big games Case- Mainoo\Mount-Bruno.

@@chriswood753 We're talking about how Bruno is wasteful in possession. Doesn't matter where he plays. If he's to play then he needs a role like under Ole. That is, the team not reliant on his possession hold up rather playing him almost as a free role. But ETH wants a possession build up attack and that's the issue. If it's transition attack, then Bruno is okay, but not in a high volume passes attack approach. For that a midfielder that holds up possession well is better. Or if Bruno has to start in a possession based build up, get two good ball retention midfielders behind him.

Mount is like a Donny v2, signing him made completely no sense IMO as we got so many specialist roles and few allrounders like him (Dalot and Shaw maybe the only ones). Aware of his unfortunate injury streak, I've been very critical to Mount and his performances, as an experienced PL player and his excitement playing for a club he supported as a kid you'd expect much more. Would like him to carry the ball similarly to how Mainoo has done past games, just not seeing the confidence to do it yet. Just draw on more opposition players carrying the ball centrally than out on the sides, thus creating more space for teammates. He'd also be better in a team with players more into actual team work, and that is not United with Rashford and Garnacho mostly being individuals. Giving him the ball inside the box as he got a good shot, simultaneous runs, one-twos, arriving late instead of decoy/sacrificial runs etc. Team doesn't mix things up enough for Mount to play a bigger part (still might spot some improvements in later games). However, I'd see a very promising relation with Højlund but Mount's vision to see the genius pass like Bruno is not in his skillset. Might not be necessary if other players create space by circulating, swapping, diagonal runs etc.. a lot of movement and Mount will find those pockets of space for half turns and quick-fire crosses and other skills he's good at. Sadly our wingers a bit too positional and selfish (ETHs intent maybe? Or simply not clever enough), and if Bruno is CAM he'll pick the first option he sees more often than not. Mount fits better for 2nd and 3rd phase attack as he doesn't have the acceleration to lead out the counter attack IMO. Altho very tempting to find him between the lines in a quick build-up to catch opposition off-guard. In that position I'd still see him quickly pass on to a winger on the halfway line to run forward into a cul-de-sac or near the sideline for support. Somewhat of the 'bad habits' that Donny always had to be invisible and demanding a risky pass from a teammate. Instead just lining up near 16y line where CDM and CB in full control of his movement. United and ETH has also used Mount for his pressing ability to run him empty by 60th min mark. He's done the hard work and won the ball occasionally, admirable but not helping the team if he'd just once be caught high and fail to track back (as hardly any teammate would cover his vacated space, CB lazily falling back instead of stepping off the line to break play). Mostly his and Bruno's pressing in vain as Rashford not applying enough aggression, determination and positional awareness when it's his turn. Sadly gotta say some individual instructions from ETH missing and questionable tactical choices also not helping Mount adjust to his new surroundings. If United had more creativity deeper in midfield, or/and striker and one of the wingers, Mount would be a better fit than Bruno as he is losing the ball too much and not making up for it with goals/assists this season. Mount's passing also a bit off what you'd expect operating as a no.8 mostly, even when not playing particularly risky passes. Probably wouldn't see Mount as that industrial no.8 with tenacity (like Caicedo or Mac Allister) and probably not combatant and aggressive enough, not creative enough for how we use a CAM as an outlet. We need more of a creative winger like Amad or Bruno (not ideal as winger tho) to unlock Mount as CAM. Hopefully Mount can turn the tide soon, if not he's a massive flop we should sell.

I think he needs to come in to replace Bruno. I love Bruno, but I really don’t think he’s the future for us. You talk about the final creative pass and how we lack that without Bruno, but I almost think that that’s part of the problem. We rely SO heavily on Bruno. If he doesn’t create, no one creates. I think we need to get away from that mindset. Especially because it seems like everything goes through him. If he was asked to play more of a background role for the better of the team, he wouldn’t do it. He loves to be the centre of everything. He’s a brilliant player so that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but we really need to play more like a team instead of individuals. That’s where Bruno and also Rashford need to be replaced imo. Amad, Antony, Mount, and Eriksen are all much better team players. No hate to the other two at all, I appreciate everything they’ve done, and they’re both incredibly talented players, I just don’t think they suit what we are looking for going forward, like I said. I’d also consider playing a flat 3 in midfield again next season if we get a more intelligent 6 who can stay back, not dive into tackles, and cover for our other midfielders. Mount and Mainoo each side of a good 6 sounds like a rly promising midfield to me tbh. Mainoo is not good enough defensively to be the lone 6 next to Mount.

Bruno needs to play deep as a midfielder next to Mainoo & Mount as the CAM. Bruno is very tenacious & can almost play like Fred with even better passing. We saw this Vs Liverpool 2nd half that he can play deeper. He becomes more controlling of his passes aswell. Bruno playing as the CAM only really creates for Rashford & Garnacho - not Hojlund because Bruno plays through balls centrally to our wingers who makes runs in behind the defence. Mount however as a CAM interlinks our forwards & moves in to open spaces or on the half turn and will usually be found in wider spaces trying to play balls in to the box for Hojlund or even our wingers to tap in. His jack of all trades becomes useful because he becomes a 2nd LW, a 2nd RW, a 2nd CM, a 2nd SS all from playing as the primary CAM. Bruno & Mainoo playing deeper can also find Mount much easier for him to take balls on the half turn than Mount as the deeper player trying to play in Bruno Fernandes. Mount's a fantastic presser too and will be useful as the CAM. BTW i find your videos & analysis the best on KZbin ❤

Bruno is not even a midfielder !!!! He's slow, physically weak and gives the ball away far too often. As for the deep role Bruno has no chance he can't receive the ball with his back to play, which is difficult. Mainoo and Mount can do this skill. That's why ETH wanted Mount so badly he fits his system as a midfielder. Bruno is best behind 2 strikers in a 4-3-1-2.
