📼Video Summary:
The Vehicle Assembly Building has been used since the 1960s to build the rockets before they lift off from the launch pad. It has been primarily used by 3 rockets: the Saturn V, the Space Shuttle, and SLS or Space Launch System. The smaller part of the building has the Low Bays, and the main part of the building has the High Bays. There are 4 High Bays, and then down the center of the building is the Transfer Aisle. Large yellow cranes help move the pieces of the rocket. There's the Transfer Aisle Crane and then the 4 High Bay Cranes. As the rockets are assembled there are retraceable Work Platforms that can be moved in to enclose the rocket. The Crawler-Transporter helps move the rockets to the launch pad along the Crawlerway.

I think, the Space Shuttle also might go to moon if it designed as soviet "Buran", which has own fuel tank for more powerful OMS rockets. Maybe for moon mission payload bay will be reduced by fuel tank. The modified shuttle will be orbiting around moon release moon landing module from payload bay and waiting before it come. And might be we got reusable moon spacecraft. Surely if NASA fix issues with orbiter's heat-resistant plates. And replace external tank to something else

I've been to the KSC once. As you drive up you see a building in the distance and think "OK we're almost there." You are in fact about 20 minutes away and the building just gets bigger and bigger and bigger as you drive. The thing is massive, but because it is almost as wide and long as it is tall it doesn't look that big from a distance. But when you get there, it is just incredibly huge.

One of the rockets assembled in the VAB not mentioned in the video is the Saturn IB, used to send astronauts to Skylab. Its second stage is the same as the Saturn V’s third stage, but it had only two stages total. To make use of as much infrastructure as possible, a “milk stool” structure was built on the mobile launch platform to bring the S-IVB and Command Service Module of Saturn IB up to the same levels as they were in the Saturn V. It looked a little strange, but it worked.

My 5-year old is obsessed with your 3D videos! Have you thought of doing kid-level versions of your videos? Even as simple as adding a call and response to your script like “”Say “Crawler Transporter”…” These videos are amazing for education. Thank you!

It's always a pleasure to watch Jared videos. When I finish watching it, I get sad because I know it's going to be a while to have a new one. I don't say that to be a jerk because I know it can't be done overnight, it's just that they are so good that I can't wait for the next one. Even my 14 years old Daugther love them so continue the great work Jared :-)

Thanks Jared. I really learned a lot about the Vehicle Assembly Building from this 3D animation. Learning there are three ways rocket components are delivered: By boat, by train, or by airplane. My favorite is the airplane. But of course depending on the components transported to the VAB the methods of delivery varies.

It's really awesome to see this building explained so well like this! Many people, even those who know a fair bit about rockets already, often forget that they don't just appear on the platform ready to go

I love these animations especially about space stuff. ISS, space shuttle or Soyus. I love the content and the way it's animated ❤❤ If you ever run out of ideas for space videos, think about history of space. Like russian mirr space station or the chinese one if there are enough information. I would love to learn something about this

Very nice video. As a space enthusiast it’s cool to see how these behemoths of rockets are made. I think Sofi Stadium in LA or Allegiant Stadium in Vegas would be great candidates for future videos

8:56 Regarding the crawler-transporter, I've read an amusing story about its origins. A NASA engineer visited an open-cut mine where a gigantic excavator was digging. He climbed into the cabin, where mine staff explained how it moved. The engineer agreed the concept would be ideal for moving a giant rocket. He then grabbed a handle and said he was ready for them to move. The mine staff stared at him, puzzled. "What do you mean? We've been moving for the last give minutes!"

I had the opportunity to visit Kennedy Space Center and tour the VAB in 2010. I wasn't able to see the shuttle launch that was planned (it got cancelled) but I was totally mesmerized by the size of this building. I was only 12 at the time, but I still to this day have never seen a higher ceiling.

It’s awesome to know that building was used to build a vehicle that put men on the moon, and now it’s being used to build vehicles to put us on far more distant planets.

Good decision Jared by making content in multiple languages. It helps to reach your hardwork to the wider audience. Mension in pin comments that this video is available in multiple languages. Otherwise people don't understand it

It's like watching you play KSP haha. In all seriousness, that was an excellent overview of the VAB. So much history and modifications went into it over the years, and I'm surprised at how HUGE that thing is! I've always wanted to visit Kennedy Space Center, and I've only seen the building in images. But I'm sure it's a lot bigger in person. Amazing animation as always, and looking forward to the next one!

This is pretty cool however the Crawler is probably the most interesting. Can you believe something was actually built to move all those tons of weight, standing extremely vertical, from one location to a far location. Must have been some engineering feat to prevent these ships from toppling.
