I'm a bit of a historian regarding the American Revolution and I find your video very informative. They fill in so many details left out by many writers. Thank you very much Katie for all your hard work and excellent presentations. We can not forget our history and the sacrifices our forefathers made. A thought, as a retired military man, if I was a British soldier doing guard duty, away form home, cold and wet, in a city showing more animosity toward me and I was threatened and had debris constantly thrown at me, would I have shot someone in a form of self defense? Something to think about.

I know the site very well, I went to high school in Boston and we had American History for two years .when I was a sophomore Mr. Gilbert to the site to explain what occurred. Katie’s video was a lot more informative. I am 77 years old now, but my first job as a newly minted architect was about a block away from the site and state street ,as it is called now,, was my subway stop. Many times I wondered what I would have don if a mob threaten me. I think I would have most likely fired at the crowd. Glad I never had that experience.

What I find interesting is that John Adam's defended the British officer and men involved. They were acquitted. Then Adams was one of the chief founders who wanted to end ties with Britain and seek independence.

The soldiers didn't do anything wrong. They were defending themselves as Adams proved. Just because you don't like someone or they are your enemy does not make them guilty of everything bad that happens. Too bad recent president's don't have that kind of integrity. The soldier(s) who killed the boy that the protesters in the Boston Massacre were protesting about that fateful day was guilty though I never did learn what happened in that case.

Just started binge watching your channel. A really good watch. I finished the Concord Bridge video and now this Boston Massacre video. It reminds me of when I lived in Boston in the North End. I used to walk by Paul Revere's house on my way to work to Milk Street. I walked by the King street massacre site many times. I think the thing about history especially the revolution is along with the facts we get to fill in the blanks with our imaginations. I still come into Boston a few times a year. Always great history there to seen. I've been learning about revolutionary history since I was a kid and living in a revolutionary home makes it all the more valuable and a greater appreciation of how this country was formed.

Massacre? To quote, "Three people killed by accident, and against orders. By the negligent discharge of one musket, from eight soldiers being stoned, beaten with clubs, and verbally abused by an unruly mob. For which the soldiers, including their officer, were tried for murder. Two were convicted of manslaughter and the rest were acquitted. All in all it was a very unpleasant business, but hardly a massacre."

While the skill of a sailor in the Age of Sail was often judged by how well he knew marlinespike seamanship, the knowledge it embraces involving docking a craft, towing, making repairs underway, and more is still critical for modern seafarers. Nothing hardens a man more than tugging his rope, it imbues him with aggression and determination. I am not surprised they were front and center at this event.

I agree with the comment about the Penobscott disaster. The transcript of the Paul Revere court martial was very revealing about his personality. Revere only obeyed orders he agreed with. Read Bernard Cornell’s ‘The Fort’. It’s a novel but it is so descriptive of the arrogance of the man.. We put these historical personalities on a pedestal and it is so refreshing to read just how human they all were. Charles

Yes, and most people forget that Revere’s greatest contribution to the revolution was wheeled the effort to place copper sheathing on the continental navy ship’s hulls. His Lexington alarm ride is way overhyped, thanks to the poem. And Revere’s career as a continental army officer was an unmitigated disaster, as evidenced by the guilty verdict at his court martial. Revere had friends in high places and eventually had the guilty verdict overturned, but his performance at the Penobscot battle was terrible. It all adds up to an interesting character. Charles

Surely you're not suggesting only lawyers who agree with or support the defendants or what they are alleged to have done should represent the defendants? Well, maybe you do. Seems so many these days DGAF about justice and just want to see their political opponents prosecuted no matter what.

Of course, those in the mob, who provoked the incident. Obviously suffered no penalty for their actions. As for using the justice system to interfere with the political and electoral process. This should not be allowed to occur. The events going on in the US, with the weaponization of the justice system, against a political opponent, is a travesty.

Great video. The Boston Massacre is a fascinating historical event to me. You see, I’m the genealogist/historian in my family. I was shocked when I discovered that Samuel Gray was a close relation. There were three unrelated (or maybe distantly related back in England) early Gray families in colonial New England. One from Hartford, one from Plymouth and Rhode Island, and one from Boston. I had always just assumed that Samuel was from the Boston clan, given his presence at the massacre. I actually come from the Plymouth/ Rhode Island clan. I was very surprised when I learned that he comes from the same line, not the Boston line. I was further surprised to learn that he was the brother of my direct ancestor. And as he had no children that makes folks like me his closest loving relative. I’m not really bragging. Nothing to brag about… lol. I didn’t DO anything; furthermore, the Grays had many children, so there are thousands of people around today who can make this claim. But it’s still a pretty cool family fact to be able to point to Samuel as a close ancestor (well, distant in years, but as close a relation as exists).

Since you're a lawyer you might want to also consider covering the trial of the British soldiers.
