Too much cost, too little size reward when you can already easily separate upper and lower, takes too long to assemble for actual backpack carry, probably too bad accuracy and return to zero.

Thats the big one. Unless its also taking the handguard off like the Air Force's Survival Rifle, its not worth the extra money for a few inches saved in weight. A folding stock adapter is worth way more in actual compactness, in an AR platform.

Said like a true idiot Folding stock adapters and shorter barrels aren't a replacement for the ability to carry a 20 inch long barreled rifle in a back pack that isn't much larger than your kids school bag Plus with a take down set up in a small package like you mentioned you can Fit that same "pistol" in something the size of a lunch box as opposed to still needing a back pack I don't get the "just as good" stupidity when it comes to take downs like yes you can shorten the over all length of a weapon instead of getting a takedown set up then you can have non ofbthe benefits of the takedown Like having the full length weapon you can't normally conceal in the same package as the shorter one you compromised on power with so you could conceal it
@user-nb8yt2il2r
@user-nb8yt2il2r 2 жыл бұрын
@@MinuteBracelet folding stocks are kinda pointless on ar 15s. First off, its not saving you any length. Its just about the same amount of work to simply pop the upper on and off and that saves you more length over all. Secondly, it adds another failure point to the rifle, which should be the last thing you add to a survival rifle, third, it might save you 10 inches in length, (assuming you left the upper on) but you are adding width. Youd be better off with an ar pistol or simply a rifle with an actual folding stock, like an akms or g3 or scar.

The MCX and other similar firearms killed the "takedown" market. The closest thing to that now is the AR that has both a folding barrel and buffer tube. The MCX 11.5 can get stupid small and is even pretty slim with the skeletonized folding stock option, add a QD suppressor like a Sandman S with a keymo mount flash hider and you can go from inside a backpack to ready to fire in about 10 seconds.

It comes in handy when your going hunting for different size game animals and only want to take one rifle but don't want to be limited to only one caliber . I take it on my texas hunts all the time and use a 5 56 barrel for hogs and then use a 300 blackout or 6.8 spc barrel for deer and exotics.

Everyone keeps saying “just pop two pins and boom it’s a takedown.” But that’s not really true because the length of an AR is in the barrel, not the receiver. As 10.5”-12.5” become more popular, there’s less need for a takedown upper. part of the problem is HOW they take down. If the handguard doesn't go with the barrel, there really is no benifit [Removable barrel means the longest part is your barrel, which will be shorter than barrel and upper receiver]. In addition, removable barrel means that your bolt and carrier are positively contained in the receiver instead of needing some other mechanism to keep them in place as in a separated upper [bump the charging handle and everything falls out].

Eventually i want to build a compact takedown AR-15 for hiking. Store it in a hiking backpack while camping.

Just buy an mcx or even an ar pistol. A 7.5 ar pistol is shorter than the reciever and handguard on this rifle and ready to go without assembly. Hell pop the reicever off and its shorter than the barrel on this rifle with fewer failure points. A 7.5 ar pistol is more than capable of killing a man or hunting a deer

Love my Beretta ARX100, although I posted pictures of it on an Amazon backpack review and now I'm not allowed to upload pictures to Amazon.

It was mostly a gimmick, and the 10-40% increase in price surely didn’t help

I think the availability and popularity of AR pistols probably played a big part in curbing the demand on taken down Ars

They are impractical as defense guns. While on Patrol, I did not have the time to assemble the gun when I needed it in a tactical situation.

Not everything is a tactical situation though. Backpacking isn't tactical. Storing a gun in a small place in your car/truck isn't necessarily a tactical situation. They're more for practical storage vs. being in a war zone and having your rifle broken down.

Honestly, true takedown rifles are so much more compact then a takedown ar-15. The Ruger .22 take down is one of the best out there imo. They just gotta make one like that in a higher caliber

you'd be better off getting a little 300 blackout in a backpack, or something with a collapsible stock. I say 300 blackout because if you wanted to go out and hot something at range it's not impossible, it's not a pcc so you still have damage output of a rifle cartridge and finally putting a can on a 300 blackout is magic

I have an original Ruger take down. It totally sucks. It has slam fired on me several times. With a round in the chamber I have to pound the charging handle back to get it to unload. The head space never lines up correctly. I have tried every thing I can think of to fix it. It is now just a wall hanger dust collector. For an expensive firearm you would think I should not have issues.

Well, I don’t know if he is speaking exclusively about AR’s, but I know for a fact Ruger is producing PC carbine takedowns and 10/22 takedowns.
