ALDERNEY, Channel Islands - Let me introduce you to the tiny island of Alderney, the hidden gem of the Channel Islands. If you've heard of any of the Channel Islands, it is probably Guernsey or Jersey. Alderney, the third largest of the Channel Islands, is often overlooked. Which means fewer tourists on its glorious, sandy beaches and flower-strewn cliff paths.
Join me as I travel from Southampton, UK on the tiny Dornier 228 plane to visit Alderney. I will be exploring some fascinating places in Alderney, but I wanted to share this unique plane journey with you.

Great thanks Joe, my husband and I lived on a smaller island (Tresco) for a couple of years and wanted to find an island with more on it where we could buy a home. Loving it so far. If you’re ever around it would be great to have a coffee sometime.

Looking forward to your other vids on Alderney Joe as I confess to knowing nothing about it apart from where it is. The French coast shown must be in La Hague at pointe de Les groins near Cherbourg. I visited there after after doing a bulk wine shop and had a few hours to spare before getting the ferry back to Portsmouth. Being the inquisitive person I am, I could see the island from there and I wondered what it was as I knew it couldn't be Jersey or Guernsey so looked it up.

Definitely August is you want the best chance of warm sea and warm weather. But it is a beautiful place to visit in spring, early summer snd Autumn too.

hello mate, i live on the isle of wight (unfortunately) and my mother who passed away last year was adopted in jersey and i'd love to take a trip there via alderney. looks great. how ever does anyone know if you need a passport to go there? many thanks.

You should, it’s a beautiful place. If you’re coming from England, you can travel with your driving license instead of passport.

Hey! Thanks for the feedback. I have a gopro now and a more stabilised lens. The Alderney gannet video might be a better example of that. But I had already bulk filmed the content and realised in edit but thought it was better to release it as this is all very new to me and a steep learning curve. Hopefully you enjoy the newer videos and videos going forward.

An interesting passenger view flying on the Dornier to Alderney. For a pilot's view of the Dornier flight check out Michael Natter (Pilot) on KZbin who has some interesting videos from the cockpit including Southampton to Alderney and Alderney to Southampton. Incidentally flown to Alderney many times but only on the Aurigny Trislsnders now long gone sadly.

Unless you're moving here permanently and import it, unfortunately it's not possible. You get here by flying on a small plane from England or you can take a small boat from Guernsey in the summer.
